Georgia Stories 38: The $10 Billion Question

Georgia Stories Video show

Summary: In 1995, the Georgia General Assembly authorized the expenditure of nearly $10 billion to pay for the operation of state government during the next fiscal year. Most of the money to pay for this comes from a variety of taxes paid by Georgia citizens and businesses -- primarily the sales and income taxes. These state taxes are in addition to federal and local taxes that people already pay. The money raised through taxes funds a myriad of city and state projects; this episode reveals what Georgia gets from these taxes.
