The inspiration for Robert Antoni’s writing is his family history in Trinidad, and his upbringing in the Bahamas. He is the author of three novels, Divina Trace, Blessed is the Fruit, and Carnival. His latest historical novel is As Flies to Whatless Boys, charts his family’s 1845 emigration from England to Trinidad as part of an experimental utopian society. Antoni was awarded the Commonwealth Writers Prize and a NEA Grant. His short fiction was chosen for the Aga Kahn Prize by the Paris Review. Ruth Behar was born in Cuba and grew up in New York. She is the Victor Haim Perera Collegiate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan. She is a recipient of a MacArthur “genius” Award and a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship. Her non-fiction books include Translated Woman: Crossing the Border with Esperanza's Story, The Vulnerable Observer: Anthropology That Breaks Your Heart, and An Island Called Home: Returning to Jewish Cuba. Her most recent book is Traveling Heavy: A Memoir in Between Journeys. Behar is both an immigrant child uprooted from Cuba and a woman whose job it is to travel and return home with stories. Michael Deibert is the author of Democratic Republic of Congo: Between Hope and Despair, Notes from the Last Testament: The Struggle for Haiti. His writing has appeared in the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Guardian, the Miami Herald, Le Monde Diplomatique, and the World Policy Journal..
