(500) Days of Summer

The Next Reel Film Podcast show

Summary: It's October, which must mean it's time for another month of horror, right? Wrong! This month, we're turning the tables on all the Freddies and Jasons and Michaels and will be spending the month talking about romantic comedies! Our first stop? Marc Webb's feature film debut, 2009's "(500) Days of Summer." Join us — Pete Wright and Andy Nelson — as we discuss one of our favorite romantic comedies out there. We talk about what a romantic comedy is and what makes this film fit it, as well as what's different about it. We discuss the nature of love and memory, how this film honestly captures emotions around relationships, and how those emotions tie into love and memory. We look at the touching and truthful performances by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel and what they bring to the table, along with things that may not work as well. And we talk about the cinematography, the production design, the costume design, and the music and how key they all are to making this film stand out as a rom-com masterpiece. It really is a wonderful film and we're happy to be starting our rom-com month with it. Tune in!
