If you do things out of spite, you will not only harm the reputation of your band, but the your own personal reputation Getting a Gig Are You Ready to Gig Yet? You've been practicing, and you think you're ready to play. Here are some things to consider: A typical gig is playing 9pm -1am, or 10pm-2am. Some places will have you play 40 minutes on, and 20 minutes off. Some place will have you play an hour on, and 30 minutes off. The bottom line is you need to know at least forty songs. The bar owner typically doesn't care how long your sets are as long as your breaks aren't so long that people get up and leave. When you have your songs, remember DO NOT PLAY SONGS THAT YOU SUCK AT PLAYING. I'm not saying the songs sucks. I'm saying for whatever reason, your band doesn't perform it well. Don't worry, as I mentioned before, there are zillions of songs to choose from. Pick one that doesn't suck when you play it. Don't get discouraged if it takes some time to get out of the basement.
