Dispatches from the Buckle – 049

Podcast – Tokens show

Summary: This week we’re pleased to feature a very special extended interview our host Lee C. Camp conducted back in 2009, during his research for Who Is My Enemy?, with the Rev. Dr. Naim Ateek, head of the Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center in Jerusalem. In addition to other things, Dr. Ateek was the first to articulate a Palestinian theology of liberation in his book, Justice and Only Justice: A Palestinian Theology of Liberation. We hope you enjoy hearing the conversation these two shared together on a sunny May day amidst the surrounding traffic and the neighbor’s roosters. Near the end of the interview, Dr. Ateek mentions the Sabeel Prayer; the text of that prayer is as follows: Merciful and loving God, we give you thanks for the many blessings you have so graciously given us. Thank you for your presence and guidance as we walk the way of peace. Bless the work of Sabeel and its friends, local and international. Guide its ecumenical, interfaith, and justice ministries. Grant us all the courage to confront oppression. Strengthen our commitment to the work of justice, peace, and reconciliation among all people and especially between Palestinians and Israelis. Help us all to see your image in each other. Empower us to stand up for truth and to respect the dignity of every human being. And to you alone be glory and honor now and forever. Amen. Be sure to let all your friends know about our socio-cultural experiment here. Remember, you can subscribe to Dispatches from the Buckle on ITUNES. And be sure to follow DISPATCHES ON TWITTER for all the latest. Lee C. Camp, Professor of Theology & Ethics at Lipscomb University, in Nashville, Tennessee, is the host of WWW.TOKENSSHOW.COM and the Dispatches from the Buckle Podcast, and the author of WHO IS MY ENEMY?
