(2013-08-25) Christ: King of the Economy

Audio Sancto show

Summary: Sermon titled "Christ: King of the Economy" given on Sunday August 25, 2013. Size: 5.1 MB; duration: 14:55. No man can serve two masters, and Mammon is a cruel tyrant. As individuals in society, we must never lose sight of the eternal while providing for our temporal needs: Christ fed the multitudes with physical bread and the crowd wanted to make Him king; when He offered food for the Soul (the Eucharist), all but a few left him. At a macroeconomic level, both laissez faire capitalism and the reaction it provoked -- socialism -- deny the common man an ownership stake in making a living. An economic system must be ethical and concerned for the well-being of the individuals of society (both physically and spiritually) in order to benefit the common good. Recommended reading: Rerum Novarum by Pope Leo XIII.
