RA033 | 366 Marathons in 365 Days: Annette Fredskov

Runner Academy with Matt Johnson: Achieve Your Running Goal | 5K | 10K | Half Marathon | Marathon show

Summary: Until recently, the record for the most marathons run on consecutive days by a female was 13, and the most marathons run in a calendar year by a female was 106. Both were great accomplishments and more than most runners could ever imagine doing themselves. But Annette Fredskov has just crushed it. Annette describes herself as an ordinary 41 year old woman and mother from Denmark but her accomplishment is anything but. She has just completed a new world record for the most marathons run on consecutive days and in a calendar year by a female by running 366 marathons in 365 days. That’s over 15,000km or over 9,500 miles. Over 183 miles per week – more than even the top elite athletes in the world would ever run in a week in training. And she did all of this after originally being of the mindset that “It’s not healthy to run a marathon” and having been diagnosed with MS just 3 years ago. In this episode Annette shares her incredible journey including: Her non-athletic background and what made her commit to running The logistics of running a marathon a day for a year How she inspired at least 3 people to run with her each day of the journey to make it official The low and high points of her journey What she has learned Reflections on this accomplishment We also cover: Overcoming limitations of the mind Fully embracing a mindset through actually taking action Running under self created pressure and how to block out expectations of others How to stay motivated when you think it might not be possible Quick Tip I share a strategy to overcome negative self talk that can fill your mind and sabotage your training run or even your performance in a race in the days leading up to it.
