Geekwire's John Cook on the Geekwire backstory, Seattle vs. Silicon Valley & creating a community

The Spoon show

Summary: When he working for the Seattle Post Intelligencer, John Cook saw the writing on the wall. Newspaper real estate was shrinking, which was making it difficult for John to do his job as a reporter. Before long he and his coworker Todd Bishop took a business plan for an online tech news startup to a local business journal, and soon after that they'd decided to strike out on their own. And Geekwire was born. Today Geekwire is a successful and respected tech blog and perhaps the leading tech blog with a focus on the Seattle tech scene. John and I talk about the Geekwire backstory, the Seattle vs. Silicon Valley news scene, building a community and what companies he sees as leading the way in the new decade in Seattle.
