Air Occupy: Chris Hedges

Irresistible Fiction show

Summary: We talked with Chris Hedges, bestselling author, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and former Middle East bureau chief for the New York Times, senior fellow at the Nation Institute and columnist for TruthDig. We spoke with Mr. Hedges about media, Occupy, and the implications of the NDAA indefinite detention clause. Given Mr. Hedges's involvement in suing the Obama administration over that clause - a case he won in district court, but which has since been appealed - and his unique experiences as a foreign correspondent in the Middle East, this was quite an informative and interesting discussion. In a related note, Mr. Hedges also wrote State of Fear, the piece published in TruthDig on FBI surveillance of Occupy, specifically highlighting Shannon's experience. Though we did not discuss that article directly, we did cover the very real effects of surveillance and encroachment on civil freedoms on the public voice and media.
