Summary: As the last battle rifle the FAL holds a special place on the list. It marks the end of an era. This is the last rifle designed for the old wars. It was conceived with the vast forests of Western Europe, the jungles of the Pascific and the vast wastes of Russia. The FAL was a whole concept rifle like the M-14, designed to be multi-role within the squad. Unlike the M-14 or the M1 there are few images of the FAL that stick in the mind. There are no common images that pop into the mind when dealing with the FAL. America is disconnected from it and I hope that today does a little something to amend that.
