"The Mormons," written and directed by Helen Whitney, was broadcast by PBS on stations all over America on Monday 30 April and Tuesday 1 May. As would be expected, opinions regarding this portrait of Mormonism are widely varied. Forums on pbs.org/mormons and newsweek.washingtonpost.com/ and lds.org have received thousands of comments and responses. "The Mormons" can be viewed at the pbs.org/mormons site. Also, this site includes complete transcripts of 13 of the many interviewed for the film, along with additional comments and discussion of Mormon history. Prompted by the broadcasting of "The Mormons," prominent individuals from many disciplines have expressed their perspective of Mormonism from their encounter with its members, history, faith and practice.By phone and email, listeners participated in discussion of this significant event on such topics as the First Vision, Mountain Meadows Massacre and blacks and the priesthood.
