City on a Hill

Reaching Your World with Luis Palau show

Summary: What did Jesus mean when he said we are to be a "city on a hill"? We are not just to hear God's Word, we are to do God's Word- but in order to do it, we must understand it.The phrase "city on a hill" comes from a passage in Matthew- Jesus' sermon on the mount.  Jesus says, "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."Are you shining?  Standing out?  Living differently?  Or do you live just like everyone else- blending in with the culture and going completely unnoticed?  As followers-of-Jesus, we need to live differently than the rest of the world.  Our love and service should be evident.  Our lives should be characterized by things of God.  Today, ask God what you need to change so that your life is like a city on a hill- an example for others.  Then, make a correlation between your good deeds and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Tell those in your life that they too can know the same God who has made such a difference in you.
