Episode One – The Beginning – Find Your Why

Coach Kev Uncensored show

Summary: While this first podcast does not fit the format or design in mind for upcoming shows, it serves the purpose of providing some background on my personal fitness journey.  After all, who is this Coach Kev dude, and why should I listen?  What has he done? I debated for quite a while whether or not my introductory episode should include some background about me personally, or just delve straight into the topics at hand.  The original plan was to give a short intro about how I got into fitness and became a Coach, but that story ended up taking the enitre twenty minutes.  Sitting in front of the microphone for the first time, I wondered how it was possible to fill an entire twenty minute episode.  When the timer hit twenty, I honestly couldn't believe I was on the same topic. A few good lessons were learned with this first episode as well.  I have become much better with the production software, and learned a few crucial lessons during the first run.  Primarily, make a copy of your raw data and do not edit that piece!  I have a couple rough edits in the first episode.  They're not terrible, but I notice them when listening back.  Also, the music introduction is too long and will be shortened for the next episode. Show Notes In this episode of Coach Kev Uncensored we talked about the beginning of my personal fitness journey.  My wife's battle with stage-3 breast cancer was a wakeup call for our family.  Watching her fight her way to remission and then go on to nursing school inspired me to make changes in my health habits.  I was overweight, on medication for high blood pressure and my cholesterol was high.  Beginning with the Couch to 5k running program and a Bowflex, I began to get some very good results results, but with asthma, and being succeptable to pneumonia, I started looking for a cardio workout that would allow me to workout inside.  I found Shaun T's Insanity and Shakeology, and my life hasn't been the same. We also talked about what finding your "why".  People often struggle to stay on a workout program, or the term I prefer is "Personal Wellness Journey", because they are not doing it for the right reasons.  In order to be successful in your journey, it is vital to find a reason to stay on the correct path.  The consequences of failure need to be so severe that quitting is not an option.  My reason is my four children.  Although I'm over 40, and love pizza, having the energy to run and play with the little ones is worth much more to me that eating half of a large pizza because I like the taste of it.  The science of losing weight is not complicated.  Eat less/cleaner food and move more.  But first, find YOUR why. Here are the links to the products/services mentioned in this episode: Couch to 5k - This program teaches you interval running.  I credit my beginning to fitness and finishing my first 5k race to this program.
