Summary: In 1835 WIlliam Walker published his songbook Southern Harmony. The title page describes it as a collection of "tunes, hymns, psalms, odes and anthems". It sold an astonishing 600,000 copies before the US Civil War, and became the inspiration for Donald Grantham's band piece of the same name.
