Today's show is dedicated to the victims and families of the tragic lost felt by Aurora, Colorado and our prayers go out to them. Born in Washington DC and raised in Southern, MD. Coming from a Colombian father of Swiss heritage and a Puerto Rican mother, and being the youngest of 5 children, she grew up in a home with diverse music. Vanessa started singing on her own at the age of 2 and later attended a performing arts school at the age of 5. During her years at "Thomas G Pullen" she was able to learn how to play the violin, clarinet, piano, participate in choir, and was very active in creative writing. This allowed Vanessa to learn how to harmonize, improvise, and express herself through writing poems and lyrics. She continued singing in choirs until her college years, where she was classicaly trained. Vanessa began writing her own music when she was 12.
