 Episode 17: Mackmyra Special 6 Summer Meadow | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 2828

Swedish Whisky? We had no idea either so why not try it! When preparing for this weeks show, Dave followed the Mackmyra distillery on twitter and within an hour, they followed back and asked if we were going to review their whisky. Upon being told that Episode 17 was going to be a review of the Special 6 Summer Meadow, they offered to provide us with an interview with their UK brand ambassador Richard Mckeand. The show had a last minute switch up and we made it happen. Nick and Richard had a good old chinwag about all things Swedish Whisky and Mackmyra. Sweden's first single malt distillery. This company is extremely interesting and isn't bogged down by the traditions of the old school whisky making nations, so they can do things a little differently.  As well as the interview, you'll hear Dave and Nick's full tasting notes as well as the expert advice from The Whisky God. It's a whisky heavy show but there is also a thing: Dave. Dave has released a new song, his first new song since November 2018. It's called 'Maggie Knows' and can be heard in all the usual places. Nick and Dave talk a little bit about the song, how it was written and how it was recorded. Nick played bass!  Episode 16: F.E.W. Bourbon | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 2786

On this weeks show Dave and Nick travel a little bit further north of Kentucky to Illinois and try F.E.W. Bourbon. As well as giving their own tasting notes, we've had two listeners send in some notes, many thanks to Kate and Paul for doing that. As always you can hear from the Whisky God too, who is in quite the flirtatious mood this week. Nick was recently included in Episode 11 of Nick Parkers "Stranger Tunes" series, performing A.M. 180 by Grandaddy alongside Shane Dixon on drums (Ginger Wildheart/Man),  Sam Brace (Skinny Lister) on  guitar and Luke Stidson (Twin Falls) on keys, you can hear and view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFT366zsGf0  All artists give up their time for nothing but in each episode we like to support a charity. In this episode we are supporting mental health charity Mind.  Find out more here: https://www.mind.org.uk/Direct to donation page: https://www.mind.org.uk/donate This week Dave and Nick interview another of their good friends, Darren Ramsay. Darren shot to fame in the year 2000 by reaching the final of the very first UK Big Brother. He then spent 4 years doing various jobs in the media before retiring, which is when he met Dave. The story of Darren's fame and how he met Dave is fascinating and Darren's personality is infectious. Plus he has a pet parrot who also joined in. Next week the boys are taking their tastebuds to Sweden to try the Mackmyre Special #6. Do you have any tasting notes on this? We'd love to hear them.  Episode 15: Connemara Peated Single Malt Whiskey | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 2737

The taste buds are back in Ireland this week as Nick and Dave try something a little different. One of the few peated Irish whiskies, but is it as good as it's Scottish cousins? After two episodes of just Dave and Nick, they are joined this week by music producer Dean Dichoso. Having worked with both of them, there is plenty to talk about so be sure to check out the full interview on the Patreon page.  Episode 14: Dalwhinnie 15 Year | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 2673

This week on Whisky and Things, the boys try the Dalwhinnie 15 year old single malt scotch whisky. It's very different from anything they've had to date, but a real delight.   Following last weeks discussions about first gigs, we've heard from a number of our listeners with their first gig stories, we were able to include a couple in this weeks show, and also, we managed to hear the Whisky God's crazy first gig. He was there when history was made.   Live sport is beginning to come back in the UK, and with all the talk about Wembley stadium last week, Nick and Dave were inspired to talk about their favourite experiences of watching live sport and when they've managed to get behind the scenes when they shouldn't have done!   Have you got any stories of when you've ended up somewhere where you felt like you were gatecrashing? We'd love to hear them! Next week, the taste buds are back in Ireland trying the Connemara Peated Single Malt Whiskey. Ever tried it? Get in touch with your tasting notes.  Episode 13: Glenlivet Founders Reserve | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 2717

The boys try their first Glen. The Glenlivet Founders Reserve is the second best selling single malt scotch on the market, so they had to check it out. Find out their thoughts on this, and of course we'll get the Whisky God's views. It's also the first Speyside whisky, which is a region within the Scottish highlands. Nick explains more in the show. When this pod started, it was never anticipated that by week 13, we'd still be in lockdown, and the idea was always for it to be more of Dave and Nick, so in honour of that, there is no guest this week. Some weeks there will be guests, some weeks there won't, but they do have a couple of very interesting chats. Do you remember your first ever gig? If so, please get in touch. Dave talks about a songwriting project he's been involved with in association with the UK Americana Music Association and Hackney Council: https://www.lovehackney.uk/windrush-generations-festival#w1 Next week, they stay in the Speyside region and try the Dalwhinnie 15 year old.  Episode 12: Michter's US#1 Bourbon | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 2900

This week, Dave and Nick have taken their tastebuds back to Kentucky to try Michter's US#1 bourbon. Not a company that either were familiar with before but that's what this is all about right? Trying new things and learning? We think so. Confronted by a song composed by Marty McFly, Nick has had an emotional week. Who has sent the song? When did Marty get so talented? How did nick miss all the signs that this is the case? If you have any knowledge about this, please get in touch. Our good friend Racky Plews also joined us. She is an incredible director and choreographer in the musical theatre world and has worked with both Dave and Nick over many years. This is both a fascinating insight into that world and a funny interview full of old anecdotes of theatre stories!  Episode 11: Talisker 10 Year | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 3106

This week the boys go back to Scotland to try out the Talisker 10 year old single malt. You'll hear from the Whisky God as well, who seems to be a little frisky this week, even by his standards. This weeks special guest is all round entertainer Robbie Coles. He's currently appearing on the Ranganation as "Vlogger" but we know him best a singer/songwriter. Robbie brings his own unique energy to the show and it's great hearing about what he's up to, and to reminisce about old tours. It was a great tour.  Episode 10: Cotswolds Distillery Single Malt Whisky | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 3111

This week Dave and Nick discover that whisky can be made in their home country. Although there are not a huge amount of English whisky distilleries, the Cotswolds Distillery has found a delightful process and recipe since they started in 2014. For a young whisky, there's a huge amount of flavour and complexity. We get an update on Marty McFly, Nick learns how to spell. They both have THINGS to talk about.  Dave and Nick also manage to talk to Jay Bradley from The Whisky and Wealth Club. He's also part of the Craft Whiskey Boys. Jay talks thought how to get involved with investing in whisky and perhaps even having your own bottles! It's a long process but it sure is interesting. His whisky knowledge is outstanding, and his passion rings through this interview.   The Whisky God is even a little jealous, but we still hear his expert tasting notes of the Cotswolds Distillery Single Malt.  Episode 9: Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 3165

This week is the first episode where the boys try a whisky which neither of them have ever had before. The Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey hasn't been around too long, but it certainly is interesting, straight from the old distilling district of Dublin. Dave and Nick give their own review of this drink and we also hear The Whisky God's expert notes. There's a pretty heavy things section this week. Dave talks about his Lego failure and then Nick travels back to his old life and interviews photographer Jered Scott. The two met when Nick was the bass player for the band Tat and touring the US opening for pop punk band MXPX who Jered was photographing. We try and find out more about how The Whisky God came into existence... we're still none the wiser.
