The lyriclunatics's Podcast

Summary: The Lyric Lunatics are best friends— scientists from opposite ends of the research spectrum, who show their love for each other by arguing about everything, especially rock music. Music is more than a feast for the ears, for the Lyric Lunatics it is a feast for the mind as well. Music lyrics, sci-fi, random geekery, music culture and sex...throw them together...mix with two women who overthink EVERYTHING and the result is bound to be chaos.

 It's a Kink Thing - Kink Themes in Emigrate Lyrics | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:21

We're  on the 'Naughty List' again -- by this point we should have a standing reservation! This week's discussion explores kink-oriented references in Emigrate lyrics, and being the girls we are, we manage to find them both blatantly embedded in the lyrics ('Hypothetically' speaking) and hidden a bit more deeply (which takes us getting 'Face Down' and dirty to find). In the midst of the discussion of kink references, we talk about: domination, submission, bondage, blindfolds, discipline, the meaning of 'breaking' a sub, nurturing within a D/s relationship, new (and unusual) terms for 'sex' (yeah -- this is a new one even for us), AND... Ginger even makes a serious bet that if Richard Z. Kruspe hears this episode, she'll offer up a weekend's servitude (like the 'good' subbie she is). Just who she is offering her servitude to is up for debate -- join us to find out! Songs discussed include: My World Silent So Long My Pleasure Get Down Let Me Break Hypothetical Move It (not Emigrate -- but we are counting it) Face Down New York City Check them out on iTunes, Spotify & GooglePlay.

The 'Math Sucks' anthem of 'Mathematik' (by Lindemann) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 23:52

This week we head back to school to explore Mathematik from (Till) Lindemann. Better known for his work as the singer for  the 'industrial' metal band Rammstein, Mathematik is the new single from an as-yet-unreleased (with no release date in sight) Lindemann album. As always, our discussion roams far and wide to discuss Till (and his school girl outfit), gangster-rap tropes, Till (and his cheerleader outfit), mathematics as a song topic (and our mutual hatred of math), Till rapping (which is mind-blowing in and of itself) and Till's flouting of gender norms. All in all... we found this video oddly-satisfying and disturbing in the best of ways, while the song itself it ridiculously catchy. Join us for the fun (and did we mention Till in a Japanese anime schoolgirl uniform??) Link to Mathematik video: https://youtu.be/cl3sbCrqqtg

The Gimp Gimmick of Till Lindemann (Rough Cuts - ep. 1) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:24

This week we talk about the Russian book signing and performance tour of Till Lindemann, in support of his books 'Messer' and 'In Stillen Nacht'. While his books of poetry are... interesting... we think our topic of choice is more intriguing -- Till Lindemann and his Gimp Girl! Yes, Till brought a leather, rubber and latex suited gimp girl with him to the signings, and she performed in the shows for the tour as well.  We discuss the 'Gimp Girl' as a gimmick, as well as some irritations we have about the stunt -- and we aren't irritated for the reasons you might think! Join us for some off-the-cuff, uncut conversation in which we leave our verbal filters at the door. Note: References to kink, bdsm and related topics are made. If these things offend you...consider this your warning.

Reflecting on 'A Million Degrees' (Album Reaction - Emigrate) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:46

*Warning: Bad Monty Python reference ahead* This week, naughty Zoot needs a spanking, and so do Ginger and Angel because they've done a bad...bad thing. There are a million reasons for them breaking their promise not to drift back to looking at work from Emigrate -- but the new album dropped and at that point, they were doomed to end up in the naughty corner again (they should just set up a permanent 'club house' in the naughty corner, with as often as they end up there)/ In this episode, Ginger and Angel get reflective about 'A Million Degrees', the new album from Emigrate. But since they have way too many feelings and thoughts about each song on the album, they are switching things up and offering a micro-analysis of each song -- which (as usual) does not go as planned. So come along as they give in to temptation and are dragged down into their favourite abyss, with 'A Million Degrees'. * Check out Emigrate in the following places* YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDB4RoqHlMLyJh8eRA6d4AA Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/emigrateofficial Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Emigrate   Who are the Lyric Lunatics? GingerSnaps is a recovering academic with a Ph.D. in the psycholinguistics of fandoms, and too many opinions for her redhead to hold without spillage. She has an arguably unhealthy (?) obsession with foreign men in long coats, especially those who wield ropes and implements that go “thud.” Novelist, poet, painter...if it’s creative, she’s probably tried it at some point. Her creative 'to-do' list just keeps growing, thanks to the fact that her time is split between a Hellish commute, a full-time gig in a (ridiculously) conservative workplace, and trying to keep the 7-year-old girl-spawn and whippet puppy out of trouble (most days the whippet is better behaved than the child!).  (Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/this_ginger_snaps_back ) AtomicAngel is a 20-something mad scientist, hailing from the Midwest where the seasons are made up and the traffic laws don’t matter. She holds a Master’s degree (seriously, it’s hard to pry the diploma out of her hands), and when she isn’t trying not to unleash a zombie plague or putting more thought into songs than the actual writers did, she can usually be found playing video games, writing novels and poems of her own, or crying because she saw a cute dog. (Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/atomicangel93 ) We're chatty...so drop by and say hi or give us ideas of songs/bands you'd like to have us dissect -- we're always happy to explore new groups and genres!  Dissecting Mutter - Episode 2: Lyric Lunatics -- 'Mutter' (Rammstein) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:47

This episode has more mommy issues than Oedipus! Join us as we dissect the song 'Mutter' by Rammstein. It is a gorgeous song both musically and lyrically. As always, we travel down a number of random roads in our analysis of the lyrics including: cloning, Deadpool, bioethics, Schaffer the Darklord, and other weird flights of fancy.  1234 - A Million Degrees - Emigrate | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:35

It may sound cliche`, but today's argument/discussion sticks with the classics -- sex...drugs and Rock'n'Roll! Rock music meets lyric analysis and chaos ensues, as two best friends from opposite ends of the academic spectrum debate lyrics, pop culture and the meaning of life. We are over thinkers. If you don't give us the answer, we'll just have to come up with one ourselves, and music lyrics are our favourite topic to dissect for the pure joy of it. For our debut episode we're tackling '1234' -- one of the new singles from the album A Million Degrees by Emigrate.
