John Vansice has been the individual most publicized as a person of interest in the 1995 disappearance of television news anchor Jodi Huisentruit. He hasn’t given any interviews since the initial weeks following the event, until now. Magid COO Steve Ridge gained the trust of John Vansice over several conversations and eventually conducted hours of interviews with he and his wife. Those interviews were summarized in a release published at FindJodi.com last week. It’s the first time Vansice has spoken about the case in more than 20 years. The release contains new information from Vansice, including the revelation of a March 2017 subpoena which compelled him to appear before a grand jury at U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where authorities took his DNA and fingerprints for the second time. It was also revealed in Ridge’s summary of his interviews with Vansice that he was quietly dating a woman for the entire time he knew Jodi Huisentruit. A scenario of Vansice wanting to pursue a romantic relationship with Jodi has often been cited as motive for his potential involvement. Vansice’s girlfriend at the time – who was rarely, if ever, seen with him in public – reportedly told Ridge the relationship was kept a secret because a former boyfriend of hers, who had been extremely abusive, was still living in the area. Ridge tells me that will not reveal the identity of Vansice’s girlfriend from 1995, but that he has confirmed the relationship with three sources who knew them both. John Vansice, the person who has received the most public scrutiny in connection with the 1995 disappearance of Jodi Huisentruit, has reportedly agreed to several in-depth interviews with a business consultant named Steve Ridge in which Vansice discussed the case for the first time in more than 20 years. FindJodi.com posted a summary release of those interviews drafted by Ridge and approved by Vansice. You can read the full release and that post here. Support Frozen Truth on Patreon I spent this last week of March 2019 in Mason City, where I was able to speak with some of those most closely involved with the Jodi Huisentruit case. Jodi’s television station, KIMT-TV in Mason City, Iowa, which is about 1 mile from the apartment complex where she disappeared. The only witness in the case isn’t really an eye-witness to the crime at all. Randy Linderman was driving to work early that morning Jodi disappeared. He says he saw a white van appearing to idle in Jodi’s small apartment parking lot sometime before she disappeared. You’ll hear Mr. Linderman’s account of that morning in this episode. Two years later Jackson violently raped four women in the Minneapolis area. He was later connected by DNA to a total of six rapes in Iowa and Minnesota. One of those men ruled out by authorities in Jodi’s case was a violent serial rapist who stalked some of his victims before attacking them in their own homes. That man, 21 year-old Tony Jackson, lived two blocks from KIMT-TV in Mason City at the time Jodi vanished. Some question what information police have kept quiet about Jackson that led to him being quickly ruled out as a possible suspect in the Huisentruit case.
