I have a fun chat with four friends taking Level 2 with me at the Texas State Kodály program, where we have all grown so much as musicians and teachers because we have literally the best instructors ever: Dr. Phil Tacka, Dr Micheal Houlahan, Mrs. Gaby Montoya-Stier, and Dr. Daniel Arredondo.

Why do we try to portray the teacher that we think or others think that we’re SUPPOSED to be and not who we really are? What are we so afraid of? I am here to tell you that you do not have to hide your REAL self anymore: the real person who has dreams so big they are scary, who serves the bigger community by accomplishing amazing things, and who also just likes to take it easy with a cocktail in hand because life is really hard sometimes.

Jackie talks about how the Kodály concept has everything to do with culture and reaching your potential.

Kristin Vogt is the President of the Kodály Educators of Texas. Jackie and Kristin talk about what Kodály might look like when applied to a college theory course, with older beginners, and when mixed with the Orff approach. She also gives a sneak peek of her OAKE session. Kristin's favorite cocktail is a vodka tonic.

Becky Knox is currently the Central Texas Representative of the Kodály Educators of Texas and formerly their Social Media Coordinator (but then Jackie took that job). Jackie and Becky chat about Becky’s specialties: choir and technology. The conversation takes a really important detour by accident, which relates to a lot of what you heard in episode two. Becky’s favorite cocktail is a cross between a vodka soda and a margarita.

Lauren Bain is the President-Elect of the Kodaly Educators of Texas, and holds the crown as the Kodaly Kindergarten Queen! Jackie and Lauren talk about TMEA 2018 and LOTS more. Lauren’s favorite cocktail is a Long Island Iced Tea and also loves a good old margarita.

Jackie talks with Lucia about what Kodaly is, what Kodaly isn’t, and what you can expect from OAKE-endorsed levels training. Lucia also shares what she’s currently researching, and ties it into her OAKE presentation on March 25th. Her favorite cocktail is a gin and tonic.

A new show for the music educator who loves talking about good teaching with friends over drinks. Jackie talks about what you can expect from a Kodály-inspired podcast. Jackie's favorite Kodály quote: "Teach music and singing in school in such a way that is not a torture but a joy for the pupil; instill a thirst for finer music in him, a thirst which will last for lifetime." Her favorite cocktail is a whiskey sour.
