Bonus Episode: A Decidedly Different Take on Things | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 34:26

Welcome to another bonus episode of Everlasting Minute. On this episode, David welcomes one third of Chikara Pro’s Proteus Wheel, Frantik to the show. Frantik has some decidedly different ideas about the content of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory than Jason and David did throughout the run of the show. For those of you who aren’t aware (and we do get into it on the show) the Proteus Wheel are a group of individuals genetically modified by Professor Nicodemus. They believe themselves to be superior beings, and are rudos (the lucha libre term for bad guys) in the world of Chikara. Frantik and David discuss the demise of each of the children, and whether or not there might have been a different ending, if not for dumb luck. There is also discussion about why the chocolate river has a reddish tint. I’d like to thank Frantik for coming on the show, and suggest that everyone go check him and the rest of the Proteus Wheel out at Chikarapro.com. Especially their match with Lucas Calhoun, Missile Assault Man, and Axel Ford from the season finale “Let’s Get Invisible”. You can also follow him on Twitter…for now.

Bonus Episode: The Leader in Wonkalytics | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:27

Welcome back! It’s only been a few short days since we wrapped up our minute by minute discussion of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. However, we were recently made aware of a video by Luke Palmer and Rhino Stew that lays out a theory that the 2013 film Snowpiercer is a direct sequel to our beloved Willy Wonka. We spend some time discussing the ideas that this video puts forth, and maybe even providing more potential for explanation based on the reading that we had about certain characters in this film, over the previous one hundred episodes. Let us know what you think about the theory, and tweet at Chris Evans to see what he thinks. Thank you to Luke Palmer for putting this theory out into the world.  Episode 100: Thank You | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:43

Welcome to the final regular episode of Everlasting Minute. In Minute 100, we have the Wonkavator flying, and we get credits and a final fade to black. David goes through the credits, and talks about a recent field trip that he took to see the film in the theater for the first time, and details some time meeting Paris Themmen and Julie Dawn Cole. Jason and David humbly thank everyone who has been listening as we’ve gone on this journey, and everyone who will find this show in the weeks, months and years to come. We will be back at some point with more content…maybe sooner than you can possibly imagine.  Episode 99: Happily Ever After | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:38

Happy Friday, and welcome to the penultimate episode of Everlasting Minute. In minute 99, Wonka gives Charlie some very exciting, if unexpected news, and explains what the purpose of the contest was. We discuss the nature of happy endings in general, and this happy ending in particular. David and Jason decide that this may be the happiest ending in film history, and they’re hard pressed to come up with a way to describe the change in circumstance for Charlie and his family. We also discuss the original novel’s outcomes for the other four children. Thanks for listening, and we’ll see you on Monday for the final episode of Everlasting Minute.  Episode 98: Henry Cavill’s Mustache | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 16:37

Happy Wednesday, everyone! In minute 98, Charlie, Willy Wonka and Grandpa Joe break through the glass ceiling. Not that glass ceiling, unfortunately. As it breaks through the ceiling, the Wonkavator takes flight, and we get to see a high angle of the town of Nördlingen in Bavaria, Germany, which is standing in for the town that Charlie and Grandpa Joe live in. We also get a composite shot of the Wonkavator flying over the town, which is showing its age. Jason makes an off hand remark which leads to an extensive digression about hamsters, Scrabble and message boards. It doesn’t have anything to do with the movie…just go with it.  Episode 97: Squareways? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 21:39

It’s Monday, and there’s only 4 episodes left of this here program. I’m getting a little misty. In minute 97, Willy Wonka finishes explaining what a Wonakvator is. He points out that there are a whole lot of buttons, and that each button has a purpose. Wonka has pushed all of the buttons except one, and he is going to let Charlie have the honors. That button starts the Wonkavator shaking and churning, and causes Charlie to look like he’s going to be sick. The Wonkavator begins to ascend, which is somewhat worrisome. David and Jason use this episode as a springboard for discussion of the history of elevators, and take a look at the Wonkavator’s altimeter…which they have a lot of questions about. Also, David throws some minor shade at Elon Musk. See you back here on Wednesday. Social Media: Facebook Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket Winners Facebook Group Twitter Or, you can send us an email.

 Episode 96: Always Thumbs Up! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 12:58

Happy Friday! In minute 96, Charlie wins! Charlie finds out, as do we, that Mr. Slugworth isn’t Mr. Slugworth. Wonka explains that Charlie has won, and that he had to test him. He also introduces Charlie and Grandpa Joe to the concept of the Great Glass Wonkavator. In discussing the minute, we talk about the concept of redemption. David is very excited about a lot of stuff in this scene…almost to the point of speechlessness…on a podcast. To end the episode, David tries his luck again at the Golden Ticket lottery scratch off.  Episode 95: Nerds For ELM | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:03

Welcome to the middle of the week! In minute 95, Grandpa Joe continues to rail against all that he thinks is unfair, but Wonka won’t budge. Joe plots his revenge, but Charlie is having none of it, because Charlie is actually a good and decent human being. He provides a light in the darkness that is the world. David thinks that Grandpa Joe is projecting his own feelings about himself onto Wonka. We talk about revenge, and varying ways to think of revenge. We talk about Charlie’s good deed, and the Shakespearean quote that it inspires Willy Wonka to paraphrase. David even gets a little personal talking about his faith. Also, please tweet at Dairy Queen’s official account, and tell them how much you want a Nerds Blizzard! Thanks for listening, and we’ll see you back here on Friday!  Episode 94: Losing a Contest You Didn’t Know You Were Playing | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:47

Happy Monday, everyone! We are in the home stretch of the movie. In minute 94, you lose! Well…Charlie and Grandpa Joe lose. David does his interpretation of Willy Wonka’s “good day” speech, and Grandpa Joe’s response. David finds translations for Wonka’s latin, and he and Jason try and parse what it means in the context of the film, if anything. David brings some knowledge about the history of printing copying, due to Wonka’s mention of a photostatic copy of the contract. We also talk about what Grandpa Joe’s retort to Wonka reveals about himself. Thanks for listening!  Episode 93: A Half Minute | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 17:27

Happy Friday! In minute 93, Wonka assures Charlie that there is no need to worry about the other kids. Wonka blows Grandpa Joe and Charlie off, which Grandpa Joe does not take very well. We get to see Willy Wonka’s office, which is fascinating. We discuss the fact that Grandpa Joe and Charlie don’t seem to have any recollection of what they’ve done wrong. We also discuss the state of Wonka’s office, and why it’s that way from both an in-universe and real world perspective…if possible. We discuss parallels to Alice In Wonderland, and whether Willy Wonka is missing a part of himself. We end this episode with a new segment.  Episode 92: Complete Lack of Responsibility 101 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:27

It’s Wednesday! In minute 92, the Oompa Loompas finish their final song, and point out that books don’t have commercials. Wonka, Grandpa Joe and Charlie are back in their street clothes, and Wonka goes through his mail. He has already basically forgotten about the Bucket family, and is extremely nonchalant about the fates of the other kids. David discusses the issues that he has with the Oompa Loompa choreography, and how much it has made him cringe over the years. Wonka needs to get back to the Queen, and Grandpa Joe plots to kite Willy Wonka’s checks.  Episode 91: Giving the Undertaker a Run For His Money | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:26

It’s another Monday, and another week of Everlasting Minute! In minute 91, Dodo Denney is doing yeoman’s work with facial expressions and physical acting. She really knocks it out of the park for the less than 30 seconds she’s in. She is, of course, distressed at the thought of her son being put into a taffy pulling machine…which seems like a nice way of saying “The Rack”. We also get the final Oompa Loompa song, which is also the most dramatic and menacing. We decide that Grandpa Joe is the Honey Badger of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Also, Jason points out that this movie quotes two songs that would be released over 20 years later. We also discuss another Shakesperean quote.  Episode 90: The Taffy Pulling Is Interesting | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 14:59

Happy Friday! In minute 90, we find out that a million pieces of something take a long to put together. Grandpa Joe makes an awful (but funny) dad joke. Mike appears to be conscious during the transportation process, which leads to a discussion about the transportation process in the Star Trek universe. Mike is now so small he can fit into his mother’s purse, and Mike is unhappy about it, and trying to let his mother know it. We finish by discussing the flexibility of small children Credit for the transcription of Mike Teevee’s dialogue: http://wonkadotcom.tripod.com/script.html Social Media: Facebook Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket Winners Facebook Group Twitter Or, you can send us an email.

Episode 89: Me Turn Knob. Me See Cowboy. Cowboy Go Bang Bang. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 15:19

Another Wednesday, and time for your mid-week sweet treat! In minute 89, Charlie takes the chocolate bar that Mike Teevee doesn’t have the imagination to realize is actually there. Everyone has different ideas for what this technology could lead to, including David. Mike Teevee, of course, wants to use it on himself, and does just that…without permission. In doing so, he gets divided into a million pieces. Jason compares his parenting technique to a hockey great. We discuss the history of the TV dinner, and Jason gets judgmental about the use of them for lunches. We also talk about Wonkavision as a tool for bettering humanity.  Episode 88: Everything Always Comes Back to Nickelback | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:34

It’s a brand new week! Thanks for starting it with us! In minute 88, Mike Teevee is interrupting Willy Wonka, and explains television poorly. Wonka explains how he created Wonkavision…poorly. Also, we realize how much of this scene is lost in translation with today’s television technology. Jason explains his version of 4K to David. We briefly discuss video formats, and why formats end up being adopted. Jason makes a Star Trek reference that completely goes over David’s head. Wonka gives us another literary quote, and we talk Lewis Carroll’s gifts to the literary canon.
