Train to Hunt Podcast: Episode 9 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:28:57

Ryan and I have been on all kinds of hunts together.  We started at a young age still hunting whitetails with our rifles, and have since done all kinds of hunts including, multiple adventure hunts in the unforgiving terrains of Alaska.  Things have changed since we were kids in the 80’s, the most noticeable being gear.  With the gear available today we are able to take so much more gear and stay so much more comfortable than ever before.  In fact there are so many choices for gear items it can be overwhelming when trying to figure out what is truly necessary to put in your pack. On this episode Ryan and I break down what we put in our packs when we are going on a multi-day drop hunt and living off our backs.  We also take about what we pack if we are going to have a base camp to hunt out of, or if you are just going out for the day or overnight. As Ryan says early in this podcast, “It’s about time we finally press record on the this conversation.”  We have spent 100’s of hours talking about what hear to bring, and have made plenty of mistakes.  Hopefully this podcast can help get you on the fast track and not make the same mistakes we made early on. Thanks for tuning in, and enjoy the show.

Train to Hunt Podcast: Episode 8 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:10:47

On today’s podcast I am joined by two guys who have very different stories to tell. Adriano Rosa and Derek Grebner. Adriano is a Super Masters competitor (50-59 years old) from Michigan. He moved to the United States as a young man, and has had over 500 triathlons under his belt, including many Ironman’s. He is the owner of Gravitus Insoles, and what he does with his free time is truly inspiring. Derek Grebner is a rancher from Illinois and has a huge Youtube following where he is better known as “Tex.” He shoots a traditional bow, chews Copenhagen, and doesn’t know the meaning of quit. He was our first Traditional National Champion, and has many layers. I peel some of those back during the podcast and ask him and Adriano some thought provoking questions at the end. I hope you enjoy the podcast. Don’t forget to subscribe and if you would leave a review, it helps us to get better. Thank and Enjoy

Ryan and I first met Greg at the 2017 Sheep Show in Reno, Nevada.  It was the first year of the outdoor pack race.  It seemed like a great opportunity for Ryan and I to test our training programs for our fall sheep hunt. It was a grueling race through the snow and when it was said and done, Greg had given us a serious butt whooping. Me more than Ryan, but it was impressive. We later found out that he was far more than just a great runner, he was a certified badass! Greg is a recent World class Adventure racer, a pilot, a hunter and the host of the new show The Yukon Wild where he and his team showcase all there is to see and experience in the vast Yukon Territory. He lives and trains in Whitehorse and when he isn’t competing in Ultra races, or hunting he is running the family business. He is one of the nicest, humblest, competitive, extreme humans I have ever met and Ryan and I had a great time hanging out and talking to him about some of his training methods and hunting memories. We got a sneak peak into what “The Yukon Wild” Show has in store for its viewers and believe me, it’s footage like you have never seen before.  Train to Hunt Podcast: Episode 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:00

Our guest today is Ryan Lampers, a guy that I met almost ten years ago in the elk woods. He’s a soft spoken guy from the westside of Washington. But don’t let his demeanor fool you. This guy is a big game slayer. He is one of those guys that just systematically puts large animals on the ground year after year. When everyone else is complaining about the elk activity this guy is packing out his bull. He is fisherman, a gardener, canner, sausage maker, hunter, and just an all around great guy. He and his wife Dr. Hillary have a podcast of their own called Hunt Harvest Health where they tackle everything from gut health, to dehydrating your foods, to solo hunting the back country. It’s a great podcast and Ryan is a wealth of knowledge. We find out what makes Ryan tick. If he has always been so calm under pressure, why he prefers to hunt solo, and which professional NFL quarterback was a big influence on Ryan’s bowhunting life. Jesse and I were stocked to get Ryan on the show and I think you will like him too. So without further ado… Onto the show.

Trevor Neistrath @huntblacktail4life on instagram Our guest today is one of the most humble guys I have ever met.  I first met Trevor in 2013 at the Train To Hunt Challenge just outside Eugene, OR. Trevor got second at that particular event and that would be the last time I ever see him lose.  He has been the Men’s Open National Champion every year since and today we ask him about  his secrets.   Not just what he does for training, but how he prepares mentally and what keeps him going when everyone else is slowing down. We talk about his up bringing, his most memorable hunting trip and much much more. We spring a tough one on him at the end so you will want to stick around for that one. Jesse and I had a blast hanging out and getting to know Trevor better, and I hope you enjoy this show as much as we did recording it. So let’s get after it… Enjoy the show.
