Mathew Nelson - Executive Director, Arizona Trail | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:03:16

Mathew Nelson - Executive Director, Arizona Trail Thankful to connect with Matt recently. I reached out to him because I thought he would be a great person to connect the complexities that go into allowing all of us outdoor enthusiasts, our spaces and places to do the things we love. We go over a bit of his background and how he found his way yo Arizona, and to the position of Executive Director, what that entails, the complexity of maintaining and finishing the Arizona Trail. Where funding for the AZ trail comes from, how it’s up kept, plans for the future, constant work that needs to be done, etc. We also cover a bit if where funding at the national level comes from for public lands like National forests, wilderness areas, National parks, state trust lands, native/reservation land, private lands - how important it is to understand this and contribute in your own way, not taking things for grated. Matt has been the Executive Director since 2012, written hundreds of articles on it, wrote the book complete guide to the trail, among many other roles as Executive Director. He’s also driving around in a Toyota Tacoma ! Which was donated by the Valley Toyota Dealers, so shoutout to those folks helping support and connect all types of outdoor recreation activities.  Peter Stetina Former World Tour rider turned Privateer Extraordinarie | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:59:10

Peter Stetina Hey!! Was lucky enough to connect with Pete Stetina while out in California for the BWR Survival camp. We sat down and spoke about his career a bit, his switch up to take advantage and make a mark in the privateer arena - doing gravel, mountain, and road events - in addition to heading up his own event, Stetina’s Paydirt. You’ll be able to find more info on Pete with his social media below. Quite a bit of interview online and in pods like this, plus he’s getting great backing from his sponsors and doing little project with them as well. One thing that generally gets overlooked and glossed over, is his rehabilitation from his crash in 2015. This is where I am thankful Pete saw what I’m trying to do with these. Helping understand just what it takes do do things well and set oneself up for the best possible outcome. https://www.instagram.com/pstetina/ https://www.stetinaspaydirt.com https://mobile.twitter.com/peterstetina https://www.strava.com/pros/pstetina Image credit : Dan Munson - www.dmunsonphoto.com/

Michael Creed This was really fun to catch up with mike and reminisce a bit. I love sharing this conversation to those who enjoy cycling and to give some insight into the experience and wisdom that Mike has. For me, I see his gift of being able to get the most out of his rider and those around him. Very thankful for him to allow us the opportunity we have had and then help facilitate that for others as well. We speak about his career, some insight on how he was and what was driving him to be his best. Also, what drove him onto the ground - and o pose the question, how do you get across to a young Mike - knowing that state of mind he was in at the time.  Lindsay Goldman - USA Cycling Director of Membership / | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:11:44

Lindsay Goldman Fantastic convo with Lindsay Goldman, currently the Director of Membership at USA Cycling, professional cyclist and Co-Owner/general manager for Hagens-Berman Supermint team, mother, wife, and working on top of all this at the same time!, which is one of the topics we delve into a little, how to make that all happen, and why it’s needed a a female cyclist with lesser opportunities and pay. We also go over how she found the bike, her live for it, finding her way and place in that professional peloton. To seeing first hand how fleeting and shirt lived some of the opportunity/teams can be in cycling. And then taking it on herself in starting a team up. We discuss the never ending search for support and sponsors, the challenges, and what’s driving her to try so hard. Of course we cover motherhood huge transition, trying to embrace the change and challenges if it that lead to seeing her daughter grow and develop. Then we talk about her position at USA Cycling, Director of Membership. What’s that means, how she’s looking to draw upon her previous experience to help grow, and her stick to it attitude to be successful.  Dotsie Bausch - Olympian, vegan, activist, all around B. A. Game Changer. | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:53:00

Dotsie Bausch Oh my goodness, this interview is far, far overdue. This was one of the first I had done, and it was over the phone. Shortly after Dotsie and I connected, one of my favorite podcasts to check in on, Rich Rill was able to sit down with her - and in my opinion, have the space and place to hit the points I’d like to - so I’ll link to that below, as it’s just a little deeper on the topics i wanted to dive into, and really well done. Rich Roll Podcast : ( apple.co/32U2WDN apple.co/32U2WDN ) OEM Sessions Apple podcast : ( SoundCloud : ( Since then, I’ve not done any interviews on the phone, as it was apparent to me that the one-on-one is far superior, allowing for the trust and space to open up and share. That said, recently the movie The Game Changers came out. Where Dotsie is one of the featured athletes/stories. (http://gamechangersmovie.com), Directed by Academy Award winner Louie Psihoyos and executive produced by Oscar winner James Cameron, And quickly became the #1 downloaded film of all time on iTunes. Wether you tune into the interview I did, or with Rich Roll - you’ll Learn she’s had quite the story and is an incredible inspiration to overcome eating disorders and ultimately attempting suicide. Which has her rock bottom finding the bucycle. Which turns into the outlet to pick her back up. Taking the power from doing so, and moving forward to help others with that experience. We get into her background before cycling and into the Olympics - and where she’s at now, goals for the future- You can find her TEDx talk here “Olympic Level Compassion” ( https://youtu.be/Dgofa-v4MA4 ) , you can watch the documentary “Personal Gold” about the USA Cycling track team at the 2012 Olympics here ( http://bit.ly/2q0NgzI ) When we spoke, it was late 2017/early 2018 - and we spoke of this campaign “Switch4Good” shortly after the commercial came out featuring six Olympians highlighting performances at the highest level sans diary/animal products ( https://Switch4Good.org. ) in addition, if you like podcasts- she hosts one under the same title with Alexandra Paul - really sifting through what it is, and takes to be plant based.  Q Martin -Filmmaker, Adventure Photographer, Environmentalist, Conservationist. | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:18:29

Q Martin. How would you describe a rose to a blind person? First, I’d classify Q Martin, as a photographer and filmmaker of the outdoor adventure/activism/social justice variety. A jack of many trades using his background growing up in Alaska, falling in love with climbing, and overlapping them with a keen eye behind the lens. He’s living life where his passions each day to share stories and educate on environmental / social justice issues while enjoying the outdoors, including with some of the world’s elite athletes in the most amazing places across the world. I take inspiration in him being able to do that, And would love to be doing the same. We get into his background as a child growing up in Alaska. His move to Flagstaff, AZ, training under his grandfather in martial arts, how he found climbing, photography, filmmaking, using his passions/gifts as a tool for awareness and change. We share the same paradigm of preventions and awareness, and he has the hopes that what he’s sharing can get people inspired and working in the direction to ensure these incredible place and lands for the future.  Jono Hall - Triathlon Canada Coach | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 02:00:23

I’m putting up this conversation I had with triathlon Canada coach, Jono Hall. If you’ve followed these convos you know he was one of the first ones I did a year and a half ago. We reconnected earlier this year while he was here in Scottsdale. Now in Lausanne, France for World Triathlon grand final this weekend. I’ve watched as his athletes steadily perform, grow, and learn throughout this season. Including triathlon Canada’sTyler Mislawchuk, a few weeks back taking the win at the Tokyo Olympic test event. (In addition to his successes early and consistency in the season). This weekend should be good for that ram and Jono’s athletes. In our conversation we cover the ever present, and seemingly never changing environment of training on the roads as a Cyclist. One topic that I really enjoyed was our discussion on what is health. How he now feels that at his highest level as an atheist, he can now look back and say it wasn’t healthy and long term sustainable. A concept and paradigm I agree with. Also, he discusses what it’s like to bring in athletes into his program who were only ever exposed to a certain way of things. How they were amazed at what else was and is available, and you can have fun pausing yourself. Again, another topic I really quite enjoyed to discuss - as it’s something I regularly see. A paradigm of having a badge of honor to push thrift through injuries, to not ask for help, and more better mentality (hows that working out for you/your health? Or everyone before and after doing the same

 Jason Sani - Culinary Nutritionist | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 01:14:18

Privileged to have had the chance to get to know my Jason Sani over the last 6 months or so. He wears many hats including being a culinary nutritionist, trainer, and speaker, in addition to being a model and an overall great person. Through his own personal joinery and learning, he continues to share and inspire others to lead a balanced and healthy lifestyle. You’ll hear in this interview (and if you take the time to watch our Workouts) he’s passionate and has a vibrant desire to learn. You’ll hear his background and many good helpful tips that can help you identify or navigate from his experience. Here’s a great quote/perspective from Jason: “When you can get in tune with your body, you can wake it up and realize that you have been tolerating feeling “ok” for too long. You have the ability redefine what normal feels like. You have the ability to feel better in every way, all of the time” The idea behind the workout video is simple; I go and do his workout and be humbled, he comes and goes for a ride with me, and the same. In addition, we can share and appreciate each other’s hard work, ability, and capacity at what we spend our time doing. Sharing insight along the way about being optimal and high performance, what it takes to support and achieve it, as well as what can get off track. Last, we can help raise awareness of the capacity of endurance athletes that use the roads as a place to train to be their best. (The Cyclist, triathlete, runner, etc doesn’t need to be reminded that the roads should be safe - rather educating and whining other groups that ride past may help with appreciation for what we are doing.) Here is link to my Facebook post containing the workout videos: https://www.facebook.com/40607768/posts/10102879025606807?sfns=1 Follow Jason below, he regularly contributes and is imprint to so many.  Kristen Kasper Interview | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: 00:54:32

Here’s a convo with Kirsten Kasper, as we crossed paths earlier this year here in Scottsdale, AZ. She’s a part of the USA Triathlon’s National Team and races on the World Triathlon Series tour. (Coached by Jono Hall- who, you may recall, I sat down with last year - and have caught up with since that time (stay tuned for that one)). She burst onto the triathlon scene and made a huge impact. Have a go at the results in the last few years. What a trajectory to that top end of the results list!! http://www.kirstenkaspertri.com/results.html In this convo, we get into how she got started, what’s motivating her, and her upcoming goals - like the WTS and Olympics in 2020. (Also what it’s like training on the roads needing other road users to allow her and her teammates to do so, so she can be her best). As we talk in the convo, she’s been doing a slower build up then year (why making sure the foundation one competes on is solid and ready to go) and has recently toed the line. And in doing so, is back to where she left off - right at the pointy end of the races. Below you’ll find the links to her Website and social media platforms where you can follow along and support her as she makes a run for it. http://www.kirstenkaspertri.com https://mobile.twitter.com/KirstenKasper https://www.instagram.com/kirstenkasper/ https://www.facebook.com/kirsten.kasper.79
