Good News - A Podcast

*Warning Explicit Content* This update we go behind the scenes and look at intros and the mailing list. As college students heading into finals week, we only had time for another update. The next two weeks we'll be on break, but we'll be back with new stories episodes after our spring break!

This week - just an update with good news from our lives. It's week 9 of 10 at the University of Oregon, so we needed a little more time to study. Good News gets editorial. This week, we ask, "Does this deserve applause?" Whether you agree with us or not, we hope to help you think critically about "good" news. If you have any comments or disagree with our applause, please let us because we want to grow in our critical thinking. This week for good news we share stories of health, acts of kindness and hockey champions. In the news - Puerto Rico, DACA and Kansas teens running for governor.

The Olympics are happening, so we decided to do a feature on special counsels. Before you boo us, how much do you know about special counsels in the United States? If you know everything, we still have a week in the news including a story on George Washington's hair, and plenty of good news such as Germany saying no to killer robots, the best metros for dating and declining asthma attacks in the U.S.

Brilliant Idea - Cards for Pets. This week, in the midst of midterms, we are without Olivia :( But, we still have good news for you! This episode, we begin looking into the greeting card industry (a $7 billion dollar industry) and the positive emotional impacts greeting cards have.

We did it! We completed our investigative report! We interviewed Neil from Cards Against Humanity's "The Good News Podcast" to get to the bottom of our spike in listens. But, we wouldn't necessarily classify what we did as investigative reporting. Thankfully, we had Tess Novotny on who's studied the subject at the University of Oregon to help explain what true investigative journalism is. As always, we have a week in the news and, more importantly, good news.

It's well known that you can be ordained online, but what do you know about it? How easy is it? And, who of the hosts is not ordained? This week in the news, we cover congressional retirements, the State of the Union, and DACA. For good news, we look towards the NFL, EPA, Costa and back on the good that happened in 2017.

"How are things defined?" - "With definitions of course!" But, what's journalism's definition? We wonder the same thing. In this episode - we're back. Hopefully that's good news to you. What we've brought back with us is a week in the news, an upcoming investigation and, as always, more good news. *Warning - Questionable Audio Quality for the First Six Minutes* - Connor forgot to change the recording settings when producing the first segments of the show. We're back with breakfast! And in London! Well... one of us is. This week's episode we ask why breakfast is titled the most important meal of the day, and explain why we were away. We hope you'll forgive us.

Last week was a political feature, this week we focus on sleep - or lack thereof. But, we're trying to get more! In good news, we share a beautiful story written by Claire Bates from the BBC about a father’s love for his daughter. And, Good News - A Podcast has expanded to different platforms. This week we take the time to explain how we've grown, but we promise we wont drag you through the details again :) If anything, this episode is setting a stepping stone onto bigger and better, future good news.
