Podcasts:
Kyle and Ellie talk about our 2012 winner- Glocca Morra's "Just Married" + deep dive the rest of the messy year of 2012.
Time to attend the ceremony for The E Word's Emo Freshman Class of 2019. 10 of the best upcoming the genre voted in by you all. Huge thanks to Tyler from Stars Hollow and Ryland from Origami Angel for hopping on the podcast with a few hours to spare. They join us about halfway through the pod. Catch the Stars Hollow and Gami tour this summer and make sure you follow the bands from our class as they blow up.
Ellie and Kyle and talk about the rest of the albums from the revival that came out in 2011. We also talk about some adjacent records from the worlds of hardcore and pop-punk and the popular places on the internet where these albums popped up.
Pigeon (aka Alex) hops on the pod for a loose episode. We ran thru follow up, answered your questions and topics, ran through some news (Sad Summer Fest, Pool Kids "POOL", etc) and then we talked about new albums that have releases (La Dispute, American Football, Chinese Football, etc.) Here's pigeon's band: https://mascotyear.bandcamp.com/releases
Tank, Algernon Cadwallader's drummer, comes on the podcast to talk about our 2011 ADUTI winner, "Parrot Flies." The LP is a podcast favorite and we couldn't be any more excited to talk to about it with someone in the band. We talk about the record track-by-track, where Algernon was leading up to the record and also the mark it's left on emo for good.
Ellie and Kyle discuss the rest of the year of 2010 for emo. We talk about when the revival actually starts, where we were and where we saw emo being talked about in that year, etc. We talk extensively about the albums on the ballot, just generally took shots at each other and looked at a lot of Discogs entries.
The only way to follow up episodes with Ian Cohen and Snowing would be to welcome on two members of team Chillwavve: Robert and Ben + Chillwavve recording artist Collins from closure. We talk about the Chillwavve history and mysteries + Collins' history with Syracuse emo. We blast through a shit ton of news, too.
All four members of Snowing are on the podcast for the first episode of the Decade Under the Influence series, to dive into the 2010 winner, "I Could Do Whatever I Wanted If I Wanted." This episode gets incredibly in-depth about where Snowing was at before the album, then diving in track-by-track, and then talking a bit about the reunion shows and what happened after the album came out. Still can't believe this episode happened. Endless thank you to Snowing for being down to talk about the record and giving a massively important record.
We have Ian Cohen (!!!) on the podcast. We got Ian on in late December to record an episode all about dissecting emo-pop. We wanted to keep the conversation going about the current climate of emo, so we recorded a second part a month later. What we have is two parts in one episode with one of the most relevant music writers to the genre today and we were thrilled to have him on.
Okay we're back. The E Word is on our 2019 shit now. We recap what the fuck happened. We go over our new programming plans for the year. We have tease a Patreon and our biggest guest yet. We have Elliott back to chat about what we're listening to and some news. Yes, we talk about Cam Boucher among many other topics. Good to back. We love y'all and are excited to do it big in 2019.
Tyler from Stars Hollow joins us for our longest episode yet. We talk easycore, Stars Hollow and our Top 10 albums of 2018.
Back to the regular format with Jord + Dree of 3rd Row Records and Ryland from Origami Angel. You may know 3rd Row from the folks who are reissuing Summer Death (Marietta) on tape and releasing Worst Party Ever's music, too. Origami Angel is an r/emo and E Word favorite. So much clout on this episode. We talk about what these clout gods are up to, talk about Algernon Cadwallader reissues, Mineral reunion, Fest... and NICK WATCH RETURNS.
HAPPY 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO THE E WORD! We made it one year and to celebrate, we welcome Commander Salamander (well, Cluadio and Liam) to come chat and catch up and field your takes in TAKESGIVING.Thank you for supporting the podcast for one year. It's been fucking wild.
We have day 1 E Word listener Taimir (and from The Slow-Goers) and Erin from the project Ketamine Cat on the podcast. We talk about what we've been listening to, Ketamine Cat, the Pinegrove return/album/article/etc extensively and then run through some more news. This episodes starts with a "preamble" about where the podcast is at and some things that have been going on.
Finally here. We have James Cassar (twitter/modern vinyl/rumblepak) on Episode 18. We talk about the bemis family Kickstarter, being professional in DIY and millions of things. James played an Origami Angel song. Here's the playlist James made: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1AOxXRrNljDd4Fh33rOo87
