Embracing a Simpler Life in Light of Eternity

We live in an uncertain time. The whole world is experiencing a pandemic, and we're all affected in many different ways.  In today's podcast we consider what it means to apply the gospel to Covid-19 and to see this season in light of eternity.

Our culture (and our human nature) condition us to expect and desire an easy life. Rather than serving, we want to be served. Rather than sacrifice, we want comfort. In this episode of the Embracing a Simpler Life podcast we will be exposing the idol of an easy life, considering the value of "easy" in eternity, and taking a look at what the Bible has to say.

What does it mean to believe God's word, no matter what? How do we live with unshakable hope, unblinded faith, and sights clearly set on heaven? That is exactly what we're talking about in this week's episode of the Embracing a Simpler Life podcast! This week on the Embracing a Simpler Life podcast we are tackling an incredibly difficult topic: suffering.  While we don't have all the answers, we have found some handles to help us process suffering through eternal perspective. When we become believers, we are given the privilege of entering into a restored, love relationship with the very God who created us. There is an incomprehensible glory and weightiness in that calling. We learn what it means to take up our cross (sacrificing "self") in order to follow Him. So much of what we invest our time into during this life will not matter eternally. Every worldly thing we build will ultimately crumble. Every personal accomplishment will die with us, or shortly there after. But God, in His grace has breathed purpose back into our living under the sun. He has instilled in our lives some things that will remain after the end. I'm talking about faith, hope and love, and in this episode will zero in on faith.

We all make big purchases at some point during our lives (furniture, a car, a computer, a house, a vacation home), and each of these things become a noteworthy investment of our resources on this earth. So how do we know if we're making a good decision in light of eternity? That's the question we (Mitch and Katie) are tackling in this episode of the Embracing a Simpler Life podcast.

We know that we want to hunger for God, but sometimes we just don't. And yet, each day we spend on this earth is a holy opportunity to live in an eternally meaningful way. If we fail to do that, the opportunity is lost forever. If we allow ourselves to wrap up in the wrong things, the implications are profound. If we allow ourselves to love the world more than our Savior, the results are tragic. So, is there a way to cultivate desire for God in our lives where it lacks? We think so! Here's how.
