E66: Tree Scouting, Planting, and Hunting the Right Tree During Deer Season (feat. Lindsay Thomas Jr. of the Quality Deer Management Association) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:15:50

Plant a Tree for your tomorrow. Scout some trees for this upcoming season! Mast crops are a huge fall food source for deer. If you arent taking in to consideration when doing your scouting then you may be missing out on a huge tool for figuring out how the Whitetails use the property you hunt. Trees also mean different types of browse as well as cover at different times of the year. We wanted to consult the experts on whitetail habitat and food sources, so we called Lindsay Thomas Jr. of the QDMA. Lindsay had great info on how to tell which acorns the deer will be hitting this fall, as well as how to find those overlooked types of mast that whitetails crave! He also taught us a ton about what and how to plant trees on your own property and how to maximize thier potential for hunting. Lindsay is a cool dude with a smooth southern voice that we really enjoyed our conversation with and I bet you will too. The subject of today's podcast is simple... Don't Be Dumb.  Over our nearly 60 years of combined time on the earth we have done a dumb thing or two and we would like for you to learn from it so as to not make the same mistake.  More than anything, we don't want you to think we are telling you what to do, yet we want to give a friendly reminder that careful and purposeful thought and observation should be made before making certain moves or purchases that could affect your life in the outdoors.  Hope you guys enjoy and since there is really nothing to do in the whitetail woods, we hope you're fishing up a storm this spring.  Much Love! - T.J. & K.C.   Website: "Click Here"   Sleeping Pad Gear Review Please Subscribe to our YouTube Channel!   Our Full-Length Film "Rock Trolls" is coming soon!  We have directors cuts videos releasing until then and if you show up to our event on Cinco de Mayo, you can be one of the first to view it:  "Click Here" for event details.   Subscribe to our YouTube channel to see more of our public land adventures and watch our intense product reviews!  E63: All The Buzz About Archery (feat. Chris Bee, Professional Archer, Vlogger, Hunter, and Producer of The Bee Season) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:33:10

HEY! First off, since you love us and we love you (but not in a weird way) you should go leave us a *****5 STAR***** review on iTunes! Just search The Element Podcast. We are the one with the deer. ;) There are a lot of young enthusiastic minds in the outdoor community right now and today's guest is a prime example. We sort of live in a world of doom and gloom. A world where all we hear is how bad hunter recruitment is or how kids just want to play video games all day. We are here to tell you that it doesnt have to Bee that way! There is a whole wave of great outdoorsmen out there who are embracing technology and communication and blending it perfectly with our outdoor heritage. Chris Bee is a great example of a dude who gets the gadjets and gizmos, but also understands the peace and solitude hunting provides. Oh by the way, he just happens to be a stone cold killa! From the 10 ring to "the crease", Chris gets after it and truly lives a live outdoors. We got deep on some archery stuff (of which he is super knowledgeable), but we drifted as we like to do into some deeper philosophy of hunting and life. I bet you'll dig it!   Check out "The Bee Season" that Chris Produces. There are some great hunts and they are always action packed. These are the realities of Darren Choate, Editor and Creator of Western Whitetail Magazine. The Desert Southwest is more than Saguaro and Chiles. It's also about rutting bucks, public land, and challenging (but fun) hunts! Darren specializes in hunting Whitetail in the Mountainous Western U.S., particularly the Cous Deer of Arizona.  E61: Burning Sensations (Feat. Shawn Luchtel of Heartland Bowhunter with Tips on Managing Hunting Property) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:22:10

With the warmer temps and Spring rains, things are really starting to liven up out there. Spring greenup is here for most of us sotherners, but some of our northerly friends just can't see to share winter with this most recent dump of snow. Do not fear my friends. Warm temps are on the horizon! The Spring, or often refered to as "the offseason", for Whitetail hunters means a few things. One of which is habitat improvements. Specifically, burning is one of the great tools we have in wildlife management and habitat manipulation. We really wanted to talk to someone who knows thier stuff when it comes to fire, so we called up Shawn Luchtel of Heartland Bowhunter. The Fellas at HB are straight up producing some of the best outdoor media content out there, killing giant bucks, as well being great stewards of the land. Shawn has really ramped up his research and learning of fire in the past few years and he was more than willing to share some of that knowledge with us. In the intro we recap our expedition to the Llano river in search of the Texas State Fish, The Guadalupe Bass. It was a crazy fast trip with some intense moments and a lot of good times. If you've never experienced the Texas Hill Country in the spring, you don't know what you're missing! Be on the lookout for the film dropping soon!  E59: Answer the Call (feat. Dr. Robert Linder on Turkey Calling and Hunting Hows and Whys) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:01:58

Y'all, Green-up is now! I saw Crimson Clover for the first time today. That means gobbles are on their way! K.C. is getting a special opportunity to go into the woods with his Pop in search of a longbeard and we decided to call up an expert to get some advice. Turkey hunting doesn't come natural for us. Today's show is a great one! We get to pick the brain of an awesome shed hunter and all-around good guy, Steven Drake. Steven is a nice fellow with a friendly smile, but there is another side to Mr. Drake. Whether he is weilding a camera, archery equipment, a spotter on a tripod, or a pack full of fresh browns; he is a bad bad man! No matter if it's in the mountains of BC or the coulees of AZ, Steven will be there, going full bore with a positive additude and a grin. He likes type 2 fun, and that's a good quality to have as a hunter. Steven is a Montana native who has traveled the world hunting and photographing the animals he loves, all the while keeping an eye out for shed antlers. He has provided content for many of the big names out there. He works closely with Sitka Gear and was one of the judges for Sitka's Diverge Photo Contest.  To see the world of Steven Drake: Instagram: @stevendrakephoto (heck of an insta follow) Vlog: Steven Drake (This isn't your run of the mill vlog. KEEP IT PUBLIC, TEXAS! Wait, what? Yes, you heard that right! We may only have 2% public land, but we are dang thankful to have it. We enjoy what land we have and are willing to stand up to protect it.   Today we are joined by the guys at Storm Water Creek, in collaboration with the Texas Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, for a round-table style discussion on public lands. We talk about what these lands mean to us, how they have molded us as outdoorsmen, and how they allow us to continue our hunting heritage. Of course there are quite a few laughs along the way and maybe a tall tale or two.  Thanks to Jared Kennedy and Jeff Bynum Of Texas BHA for jumping on her with us and to all of the Boardmembers for making this event possible.  If you are interested in joining the fight for public lands and access: JOIN BHA!   Big thanks as well to Legal Draft Beer Co. for hosting us and having a great facility for us to enjoy. http://www.legaldraftbeer.com/   Subscribe to our YouTube channel to see more of our public land adventures!  E55: Wild Turkey Straight Talk (Feat. Annie Farrell, NWTF Biologist and Jackson Harris, Regional Director for the Nation Wild Turkey Federation on Habitat, Conservation, Hunting, and The Future) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:48:03

Today we hail from the rainy woods of Texas where, not long from now, you may have the chance to hear an ol' rope draggin' gobbler sound off from his early morning roost. Some areas are literally "flocking" with birds, while others are devoid of even the softest yelp. It sometimes seems (especially on social media) that the eastern half of Texas is possibly the only place in the lower 48 that doesn't have birds. On a quest for answers as to why this is, we were luck enough to sit down with Annie Farrell and Jackson Harris of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF). We came looking for answers, and left with much more. Annie and Jackson are two young people full of energy, positivity, and a passion for wild turkeys. We are now proud to call both of them friends. Annie is a biologist based in East Texas. She works hard on conservation on both public and private land, habitat improvements, and restocking efforts. She is originally from Georgia and graduated from The University of Georgia. To get in touch with Annie: afarrell@nwtf.net Jackson is a Regional Director in East Texas for NWTF and is based out of the great town of College Station. Jackson often works behind the scenes, gathering manpower, coordinating banquets, and raising money to help fund all the work that NWTF does in our great state. Although he may reside in Aggieland now, he is originally from Alabama and graduated from The University of Alabama.  E54: Into the Grey Light (Feat. Stephen Spurlock of Pale Horse Productions on Post Season Scouting, Hunting Mature Bucks, and Exploring The Extensive Range of Whitetail Deer) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:15:28

Now is the time to be in the woods! Deer season really never stops when you are focused on mature bucks. This time of year is the best time to get out and locate where those beasts have been hiding. The foliage is down and the sign is fresh!  Today on the show we pick the brain of a master of post season scouting, Stephen Spurlock. Steven has left out no detail in his system for finding big bucks after season's end. We learn a ton about what types of sign will lead you to big bucks, what a shed antler can tell you, and how to take post season finds and apply them to fall hunting scenarios. Stephen is an upbeat joyful dude who spends an amount of days in the field that most of us only dream of. What makes him great is that he can take what he learns from his extensive experiences hunting and scouting and make adjustments to his strategy that directly lead to success.  Stephen is the founder of Pale Horse Productions, which produces high production outdoor films.
