Digesting Hannibal Episode 53: Hannibal S03E13 - The Wrath of the Lamb | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

That’s it, folks. Last episode of Hannibal, last episode of the podcast. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves because we’ve got the series finale to analyze. So we talk about some unanswered questions (we’re looking at you, Bryan Fuller), the lines that have more hidden meanings than ever before, callbacks to previous seasons, Chilton jokes, who we think really wrote the script for the finale, the subtlety and complexity of Hugh Dancy’s acting in the final scene, our intricate (and complementary) interpretations of what the cliff represents, what the entire show really is a metaphor for, and how we imagine that a 4th and 5th season would be like. Also, we recommend the podcasts Lore and Mystery Show. And, last but not least, thank you to everyone who followed our little podcast along with the show. We’ve had a lot of fun doing it and we hope that you’ve had a good time listening to it, too. So long, fannibals! And don’t be rude. ;) [download] Appetizer Cassandra’s choice: Lore podcast iTunes - Podcasts - Lore by Aaron Mahnke Maki’s choice: Mystery Show podcast iTunes - Podcasts - Mystery Show by Gimlet Media Main Course Hannibal Hannibal S03E13 - The Wrath of the Lamb Other things that were mentioned: Bane - Batman Wiki Goodreads | Quote by Johann wolfgang von Goethe: “Faust: Who holds the devil, let him hold him we…” Goethe’s Faust - Wikipedia Wayne Manor - Batman Wiki Harley Quinn - Batman Wiki J.S.  Digesting Hannibal Episode 52: Hannibal S03E12 - The Number of the Beast Is 666... | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

The show is almost over so we analyze the penultimate episode while discussing how Bryan Fuller has been acknowledging the fans, the corroboration of many of our interpretations about the symbology in the show, the main differences between the Red Dragon storyline here and in the book, how badly we want a Hannibal/Chilton sitcom, a few silly jokes (as usual), and we still suspect that someone in the Hannibal Writers Room listens to this podcast. We also talk about Worldcon, the Hugo Awards ceremony, the current state and the future of science fiction & fantasy fandom, and the anime Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace.  Digesting Hannibal Episode 51: Hannibal S03E11 - ...And the Beast from the Sea | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

There wasn’t much to interpret on Hannibal this time but we analyze the latest episode of the show, nitpick about some details of the plot (including its anachronisms), acknowledge that Bryan Fuller is trolling us all, make pope jokes (no, that’s not a typo), discuss a sequence that is very different from the book, and trace some parallels between Goethe’s Faust and Fuller’s Hannibal. We also talked about the anime Gakkou Gurashi! (School-Live!, with spoilers for the first episode), modern art, and Cory Arcangel’s video installation “There’s Always One At Every Party” (about Kramer’s coffee table book about coffee tables).  Digesting Hannibal Episode 50: Hannibal S03E10 - And the Woman Clothed in the Sun | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

On our 50th episode, we are halfway through the Red Dragon storyline so we analyze every scene and discuss everything about them including Dolarhyde’s desktop wallpaper (and ours), the main theme of William Blake’s work and how it’s related to the show, one of our interpretations of a religious reference is validated, tiger jokes, more sexual metaphors (from the show!), what Bedelia does with the recipes that Hannibal sends to her, Gillian Anderson fisting Zachary Quinto (the porn spambots are gonna love these show notes), and how the Will/Hannibal relationship in the show is different from the one in the Red Dragon book. The Red Dragon storyline develops and we continue to discuss each episode including our theory that the two halves of this season were originally supposed to be two separate seasons, sexual symbolism and sexual metaphors in the show, that Carrie adaptation written by that beloved producer, the possibility that Bryan Fuller listens to our podcast and is actively trolling us, Bryan Fuller’s way of keeping promises (yes, we talked a lot about him), more sexual innuendo (from the show, not from us), and anachronism in the last few episodes of the show. Enter the Red Dragon! As always, we analyze the episode scene by scene. This time, we also discuss why the visual style of the Will-o-vision scenes are now different, blurred butts, Blood and Chocolate vs. Twilight, sanguinaccio dolce, Hannibal’s (possible) multiple levels of delusion, scrapbooking, and some Thorin/Smaug/Bilbo jokes (of course). Long-time listeners know how we like Marvel Comics so, yes, we talk about the Ant-man movie (including Edgar Wright, what’s wrong with the MCU even though we like it, and Civil War). But, of course, we also analyze the final episode of Hannibal’s Italian saga and discuss all the religious/historical/artistic/movie references that we could find, why the ending makes sense, and the most important (and unanswered) question.  Digesting Hannibal Episode 46: Hannibal S03E06 - Dolce | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

In our kinkiest episode ever, Cassandra talks about her experience with going to a male strip club (Maki has no experience with that at all whatsoever), watching naked Helen Mirren (Maki does have experience with that, thank you), that trippy sex scene, unusual ways to watch “adult movies,” and Cassandra’s opinion on the current state of that kind of entertainment. Okay, it’s all probably more funny than kinky. Don’t get your hopes (or anything else!) up. But we also discuss the latest news about the future of Hannibal, analyze all the details of the latest episode of the show (as usual), and we might have figured out how Francis Dolarhyde will be changed in order to work within the show’s context. This week, we talk a little more about the cancellation of the show, how it has become very meta because of that, why Alana is a better detective than the FBI agents, why Cassandra is a better detective than Alana, weird blibical stories about Jesus, figs, Will’s hobo name, and how Alan Moore’s Batman: The Killing Joke is very similar to Hannibal. We analyze the latest episode of Hannibal as usual and even have some epiphanies in real time. Also: fallen angels, Shintoism, snails, fireflies. Lots of research. So much research. But we’ve also got silliness, and Cassandra swearing like a f***ing sailor. F*** yeah! P.S.: We know that Hannibal has been canceled and that the third season will be the last… on NBC. On this extravagant episode, we discuss the movie Jupiter Ascending and also Mad Men, Mad Max: Fury Road, and the ending of the movie Ex Machina. We also talk about women wish fulfillment fantasy, fairy tales, space operas, subjectivity and context on evaluating movies, why explaining the supernatural/paranormal in a story is usually not a good idea, Eddie Redmayne’s ASMR voice, the bees, people who have never seen Star Wars, why writers and creators of any kind should always be aware of what’s going on in pop culture, films that are similar to Jupiter Ascending but better, and we even manage to talk a little about what’s coming up on Hannibal season 3.  Digesting Hannibal Episode 39: Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Greetings, True Believers! You will be astonished to realize that we were not kidding: this episode is all about Marvel. Cassandra actually manages to recommend the movie Ex Machina but everything else is about superheroes from the house of M. For Marvel. Not Magneto. Or, you know, Mickey (Mouse). Well, Marvel is actually part of Disney now but I digress. Besides discussing the details of the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron, we also talk about the new Secret Wars comic book series/event, what we think that Marvel comics are gonna be like post-Secret Wars, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl (the comic book), The Avengers (the first film), our controversial opinions on Loki and Black Widow, why comic books are just like soap operas, the comic book origins of the new characters from the movie (Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Ultron, Vision), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Joss Whedon’s thirst for blood, the upcoming Ant-Man movie, how the Marvel Cinematic Universe should deal with the burden of continuity and having too many characters, the Infinity Gems/Stones, Marvel’s long plan with the Cinematic Universe, comic books inside the reality of the Marvel Universe(s), Spider-Man, and which movies we think Marvel is probably gonna make in Phase 4.
