Michael Jan Friedman is an American author of nearly sixty books of fiction and nonfiction, more than half of which are in the Star Trek universe. Mike has also written for the Aliens, Predator, Wolf Man, Lois and Clark, DC Super Hero, Marvel Super Hero, and Wishbone licensed book universes. Eleven of his book titles, including the autobiography Hollywood Hulk Hogan and Ghost Hunting (written with Sci-Fi’s Ghost Hunters), have appeared on the prestigious New York Times primary bestseller list, and his novel adaptation of the Batman & Robin movie was for a time the #1 bestselling book in Poland (really). Mike has also written for network and cable television, radio, more than 150 comic books, most of them for DC Comics. During the interview Mike tells us the influences behind his writing, how he discovered Star Trek and what it means to him. Welcome to The Captains Table where we have intimate chats with those who have shaped Star Trek in words… For chapter six of our ongoing interview series we are very pleased to present to you our interview with New York Times Best Selling author David R George III. David R. George III is an author of several Star Trek novels. George also co-wrote the story for the first-season Star Trek: Voyager episode “Prime Factors” with Eric A. Stillwell. George’s literary Star Trek works, include novels in the Pocket DS9 series. He collaborated with Armin Shimerman on The 34th Rule, set during Deep Space Nine’s fourth season and also wrote Twilight, set after the end of the series. He authored “Olympus Descending”, one of two short novels in the book Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Volume 3 and the Star Trek: The Lost Era novel Serpents Among the Ruins, set aboard the USS Enterprise-B in 2311, under the command of Captain John Harriman and first officer Demora Sulu, and which tells the story of the Tomed Incident. He wrote another Demora Sulu story, a novella “Iron and Sacrifice,” which appears in the Tales from the Captain’s Table anthology. During the interview we talk about how David discovered Star Trek, his love of writing, his Voyager episodes, writing with Armin and so much more. Ron Wilkerson is a writer, musician, producer, director, and inventor. He has written and produced multiple episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, Stargate SG-1 and VH1’s Strange Frequency. He was nominated for an Emmy as a part of the writing team on the seventh season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He made a cameo appearance in the Stargate SG-1 fifth season episode “Wormhole X-Treme!” in which he played a studio executive. He recently published a novel: Houdini & Lovecraft, The Ghost Writer. During the interview we discuss how Ron started writing, his love of Star Trek, writing for TNG and in particular “Lessons” from season six, We also discuss Voyager, Stargate and much more. Una is a science fiction writer, particularly of tie-in novels based on Doctor Who and Star Trek. Una is also lecturer in creative writing at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. During the interview Una tells us about her love of Blake 7, Doctor Who and of course Star Trek. We talk about her favourite character Mr. Garak from DS9. We have a really interesting talk about fan fiction and in particular Una’s own fan fiction. We also discuss Una’s novel “Hollow Men” which is a follow up to the amazing episode “In the Pale Moonlight”. Welcome to The Captains Table where we have intimate chats with those who have shaped Star Trek in words… For chapter three of our ongoing interview series we are very pleased to present to you our interview with author Alan Dean Foster. Alan’s work to date includes excursions into hard science-fiction, fantasy, horror, detective, western, historical, and contemporary fiction. He has also written numerous non-fiction articles on film, science, and scuba diving, as well as having produced the novel versions of many films, including such well-known productions as Star Wars, the first three Alien films, Alien Nation, The Chronicles of Riddick, Star Trek, Terminator: Salvation, and both Transformers films. Other works include scripts for talking records, radio, computer games, and the story for the first Star Trek movie. His novel Shadow keep was the first ever book adaptation of an original computer game. In addition to publication in English his work has been translated into more than fifty languages and has won awards in Spain and Russia. His novel Cyber Way won the Southwest Book Award for Fiction in 1990, the first work of science-fiction ever to do so. He is the recipient of the Faust, the IAMTW Lifetime achievement award. During the interview we find out how Alan started writing, his adaption's of Star Trek The Animated Series, his story from the proposed Star Trek Phase II series that led to the story for The Motion Picture. Howard Weinstein’s professional writing career launched at age 19 when he sold “The Pirates of Orion” script to NBC-TV’s Emmy-winning animated Star Trek series in 1974. Bob has written several Star Trek novels including The Gate Ways series, A Time to.. and many more. Some of these have been in collaboration with his good friends Peter David and Michael Jan Friedman. During the interview Bob tells us about his love for Star Trek, how he made the transition from being a comic book editor to novelist.
