Pitch
Summary: Pitch tells intimate stories that get to the heart of why we listen to music, how we experience it, and what we’re actually hearing when we hit play. Music moves us. Pitch exists to move people to think about and feel music in new, surprising, and different ways.

Mish Way is the front-woman of the band White Lung. More screamer than singer, her voice is aggressive, and powerful. But she has also struggled with vocal injury. In this episode we talk with Mish about the intersection of vocal health and vocal identity and how a punk singer recovers when she loses her voice. For more, visit www.pitchpodcast.org.
Bonus Track! One more clip from my interview with Kill Rock Stars' Portia Sabin. She talks about how she came to run the label. To get all of the past Pitch episodes you can go to itunes.com/pitch, or visit us online at pitchpodcast.org

A little extra from our recent episode about porn. Professor Bruce Johnson turns Alex onto a super interesting cultural concept about vision vs. sound. To get all of the past Pitch episodes you can go to itunes.com/pitch, or visit us online at pitchpodcast.org
The "bow chicka wow wow" porno groove has basically become the sonic symbol for porn in our society. And as adult films move away from the use of music, "bow chicka wow wow" has become a joke. But music is actually a force that can make porn funnier, more intense, more evocative, and more complicated. And it deserves a little recognition. CORRECTION: The original version of this podcast used music from Beethoven's Symphony No. 1, rather than Symphony No. 6 "Pastoral." This version fixes that mistake.
Bonus Track! Two more clips about cover songs. The first is from my conversation with music writer/musician Mike Katzif about the role cover songs can play for new bands. The second is Will Sheff talking about early bands that he was in. For more, visit us online at pitchpodcast.org
Welcome to Season 3 of Pitch! In this episode we do a deep dive into cover songs: why they're important and how they contribute to a long history or artistic borrowing. For more, visit www.pitchpodcast.org.
We're happy to announce our new season! Pitch is a narrative podcast about music. We make stories that get to the heart of why we listen to music, how we experience it, and what we're actually hearing when we hit play. Visit us online at pitchpodcast.org.

Re-Issue: In the fourth episode of Pitch, we explore what might be the biggest open secret in the music industry: bands performing live to pre-recorded backing tracks.
Re-Issue: This was the very first episode of Pitch and was originally released in February 2014. The episode tracks the strange history of the "Clearmountain Pause" from an off-the-cuff comment to a friend to a Pulitzer Prize winning novel.
