 001 | How to Get Fit Part 1 of 3 | Finding Your Motivation | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 29:52

"You are never really playing an opponent. You are playing yourself, your own highest standards, and when you reach your limits, that is real joy." - Arthur Ashe This is part one of a three part series on How to Get Fit and this podcast is all about motivation, where motivation comes from, how to find your motivation and how to stay motivated when the going gets tough. The act or an instance of motivating, or providing with a reason to act in a certain way. Merriam-Webster Whenever anyone asks me how to get in shape or lose weight, I always ask them "why do you want to" which is another way of asking, "What's your motivation." The why starts inside. It can't be outside of you or you will not be successful. In the podcast I go into detail on two times in my own life where I found motivation and where it came from. 1. When my son was a toddler and I couldn't keep up with him. 2. When my doctor put me on blood pressure medication. Motivation is literally the desire to do things. It's the difference between waking up before dawn to pound the pavement and lazing around the house all day. It's the crucial element in setting and attaining goals—and research shows you can influence your own levels of motivation and self-control. So figure out what you want, power through the pain period, and start being who you want to be. - Psychology Today Got Your Motivation? Now it's time to set some goals! Here is my 10 step system for achieving your goals. This can be applied to almost anything in life. One Goal - Decide on a small, but achievable goal for the next four to six weeks. Find inspiration - Follow people who are uplifting and inspirational. Try to avoid drama and negative energy. Get excited - Build yourself up by looking forward to the goal and what difference it will make in your life. Build anticipation - Set a date a several days in the future to start working on your goal and make preparations to your lifestyle so you can get started. Post your goal - I like to use yellow sticky notes and post them on my bathroom mirror and on the side of my computer at work. Put them somewhere where you will see them daily. Commit publicly - I've seen many people post their current weight and goals weights on their Twitter profile page or their Facebook wall. This is a great way to keep you accountable. Meditate on your goal daily. Focus on benefits and replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Listen to the podcast as I go into the difference between 'I' statements and 'you' statements. Get support - There is an entire Fitspo Family out there to help you. Mention me on Twitter and I'll introduce you to the crew. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it - You are never alone! The simple questions or struggles have been answered or experienced by someone else. We're here to help. Don't get discouraged and stick with it - As with all things worth doing, change takes time. If you fail today, start again tomorrow and keep taking baby steps. Don't get down on yourself. Just keep trying! Becoming a Supple Leopard Book Review I won't go into the full review here, but if you listen to the podcast, you'll hear my full review of this amazing book about human mechanics and mobility by Kelly Starrett and Glen Cordoza.
