Podcasts:
67: Grass: Five questions on grass (better late than never?). Music this week is “Little Grass Shack” by Voodoo Suite from the Free Music Archive. Also I’ll be recording an episode of NPR’s Ask Me Another - as a contestant - on August 20th. Tickets here.
66: Roads: Five questions on roads. (Also it’s very hot in New York or at least in my dorm room.) Music this week is Jahzzar with “Roads that burned our boots” from the Free Music Archive.
65: The Art of the Book: Five questions on bookbinding and bookmaking. Music this week is “House of Books” by the Party Boys from the Free Music Archive.
64: Live from Governors Island!: dpecs: Live from Colonels Row on Governors Island at the Macaulay Honors College Olympics and Spring Picnic. Rounds this week are on Governors Island, Snakes, Planets, and Canals.
63a: Brief announcement
63: Snakes: 5 questions on snakes. This week’s music is “Charming Snakes” by MUTE, from the Free Music Archive.
57: Barclays Premier League: thurstriv: A double-length episode on the Premier League - five trivia questions, and a special five-question “Guess the Chant” round, featuring chants recorded and posted on the site FanChants. Music this week is actually a field recording - “Kids Playing Soccer in Park Shouting and Arguing, Kalemegdan Park, Belgrade, Serbia” as recorded by Tomlija on the Free Music Archive. Rerun this week of ThursTriv on account of kinda mental health crap/a bunch of John Maynard Keynes (aka “Candy Keynes”). The EPL is heating up so I’m rerunning this episode from before the season started.
62: Moss: FIve questions on moss (vaguely). Music is Celesteville with “Let’s Climb a Mossy Hill” on the Free Music Archive.
61: Spring Training: 5 questions this week on baseball’s Spring Training. This week’s music is Alabama Shakes with “Rise to the Sun,” live from Port Chester, NY and available on the Internet Archive’s Live Music Archive.
60: Snow: I’m back! 5 questions on snow this week; music is an accordionist on the B Line of the Rome Metro, part of one of my other Internet projects, the Subway Music Archive.
59: Bridges: Five questions on bridges. Music this week is “Every Bridge Has Its Toll” by Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
33: NPR (rerun): Ed. Note: I’m taking this week off from podcasting to focus on the GRE which I’m taking in about a week. New double-length episode on Bridges (and Bridges) in two weeks’ time. For now, in honor of On the Media’s Brooke Gladstone befriending me on Facebook(!), I’m re-running my quiz on NPR from back in June of 2012. 5 questions on NPR. Unfortunately this is probably the most niche episode of the show I’ve done, at least in the post-Soundcloud era of the show. Music this week is “Happening for Lulu” by Kraus from the Free Music Archive. There’s also a bit of “The Golden Age of Sampling” by Kirk Pearson in the teaser for next week’s episode of infinitespace.
58: New York City Elections: Five questions about New York City electoral history. Music this week is “Pollinate” by my friend Kirk Pearson, available on the Free Music Archive (and on his bandcamp!) I featured Kirk on my podcast infinitespace in only its second episode; infinitespace and ThursTriv were both featured in USA Today College this week. Many thanks for the congratulations and shout-outs in the week since then. Also, if you live in New York City and you’re a U.S. citizen you can still register to vote for the general election - find out in this pretty awesome Brian Lehrer Show piece.
57: Barclays Premier League: A double-length episode on the Premier League - five trivia questions, and a special five-question “Guess the Chant” round, featuring chants recorded and posted on the site FanChants. Music this week is actually a field recording - “Kids Playing Soccer in Park Shouting and Arguing, Kalemegdan Park, Belgrade, Serbia” as recorded by Tomlija on the Free Music Archive. Music this week is “Sounds of Silence” as recorded on the N Train, part of the Subway Music Archive, which can be found both on this site and on Soundcloud (new tracks coming soon!).
