Google has been working overtime releasing new apps, new features and making announcements about what is coming in the future. This week the Educast looks at unlimited storage for education accounts, free backup for school districts, image editing in Google slides, spell check in Google Sheets plus other additions and tricks in Google Sheets. Google continues to show that Google Voice is not going away by adding MMS support. They released a new Google News app for iOS and on Android and the web you can quickly create polls.

This Week on the Google Educast: Now you get two hours to return apps that you buy in Google Play. Google Voice update may signal a longer life for this Google Product. On the show we chat about the new iPad Drive apps including Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Hangouts is now a core part of the Google Apps for EDU suite meaning Google is fully supporting this if admins have any problems. Juan gives the Pope a big +1 for his Scholas initiative. Kevin shows how to quickly customize the calendar view by using the minical. Juan busts out a great workaround for group work in Classroom. Megan reveals the new themes in forms and there is much rejoicing. And Kevin wonders why you can’t see a calendar if it’s hidden.

In this week’s show, Fred, Juan and Chris look at recent changes in Drive, including the handling of native Microsoft Office documents and new features in charts for trendlines. We also talk about big tablets and their place in education, fill you in on the RISE awards, share some amazing new Android apps, and much more!

There were a lot of new changes in July and Google is keeping the updates coming into July. We share the release date for Google Classroom that will the next school year. Google Science Fair has been narrowed to the final fifteen. Megan tells us that Gmail gave you an update that will make your busy life so much happier. We go to Mars and the moon in Google Maps. Kevin shares an example of using data validation in Sheets (psst it sounds harder than it is.) You can do a vector drawing on the web and we share the app that allows you save them to your Google Drive. Juan shares an app to work with language learners and to build vocabulary.

This week we cover new announcements from Google about Hangouts for everyone along with better support and an eject button. Google Drive might look different in the coming weeks, but like it or hate it, the new appearance is most likely here to stay. Learn how to split or concatenate cells in Sheets and Chris shares how to open Microsoft Office files in Google Drive with their new add-on along with making it the default way to open Office docs on your operating system.
