Membership Masters Podcast Preview – Robbie Baxter Author of The Membership Economy on Membership Site Pricing and Trials | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:43

Robbie Baxter is the OG evangelist of the membership model. Her book, The Membership Economy, predicted the rise of subscription services like Netflix. And, was literally our membership bible for growing our first membership site into a million dollar membership. In today’s episode we dive deep into when and where you should use free trials, pricing your membership, and we discuss her new book, The Forever Transaction. We are going to talk about all things memberships with the person who literally wrote the book on the membership model. What You’ll Learn: What the Membership Economy is all about The difference in headline benefits and engagement benefits “The Acquisition Schute” Why the free trial can help or hurt you Why friction is key to attracting quality members The Forever Transaction How to evolve your offerings The Membership Economy How to engage and retain your members Show Notes Back in 2012, my wife Jocelyn and I started our journey to entrepreneurship. We had some really bad stuff happen to us at work and we decided to start our own online business. We started out with digital courses, PDFs, all kinds of stuff to download with a one time purchase. A couple years later we noticed some issues with stability. We putting a ton of work in, had to start back at zero every single month. We didn’t really know what we were doing. We went to a conference in the Philippines, hosted by Chris Ducker, called Tropical Think Tank. We went just to get around other entrepreneurs and see what they were doing. We were sitting at a table one day with James Schramko, and starting telling him about what were selling, how it was going good, but was so high energy. He flat out told us it was a membership, all we needed to do was sell it once and have people pay you forever. He told us to read The Membership Economy by Robbie Kellman Baxter on our way home. So, of course, I read the whole thing on our way back to the Philippines. And, read it all in one sitting. I knew when we closed the book that we had to do what this book said, as soon as possible. And, then in June of 2015, as soon as we got home, we implemented the membership model into each and every one of our four businesses. Within 30 days of opening our membership, we had over 1,000 members, paying an average of $49 to $99 a month, and it’s been that way ever since. Now, we’ve helped over 3,000 people do the same thing in the last 5 years. All of that literally came from us reading The Membership Economy by Robbie Kellman Baxter. The Membership Economy Robbie’s book, The Membership Economy came out in 2015, which meant most of the writing was done in 2014. However, she began making notes for the book a decade before, back in 2004. Robbie had been working with Netflix back in 2002 and 2003, where she fell in love with their business model. She was taking notes like: “Should every business have a free trial?” “Should every business 100% membership or 100% not? She would meditate on those questions.  At the same time, Silicon Valley was falling in love with Netflix’s business model too. She began getting calls from companies wanting Robbie’s help in setting up a similar business model, so she began helping them too. She realized there were things that were different about each of the organizations, but several principles are the same. For the next 10 years she worked with these businesses, using these principles. In that time, she was trying to put together a framework. Basically, she would try and explain to people that there was a way to get recurring revenue, subscriptions, memberships, digital community, that works in every business and industry, no matter what the size.

Membership Masters Podcast Preview – James Schramko of SuperFastBusiness on How to Build a Membership Site with Trials | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:58

James Schramko is one of our own personal membership mentors. He helped us flesh out our own first online membership many moons ago, and is a true membership master himself in the subscription game. He is the founder of superfastbusiness.com, where he helps business owners make plenty more profit while working a whole lot less.  In this interview, we discuss the makings of a multi-million dollar membership, free trials, and how to make content areas your members will love.   What You’ll Learn: * The ascension model. * How to get people to pay you, retain members that you’ve already gotten. * “Inbox Relief“ * How to set the culture. * Why you should use the membership model. * How to make recurring revenue. * You are worth it! * Why your membership is a supermarket. * How to work less and make more.   The ascension model. James says the ascension model is the idea that someone comes across his website, get onto the email list, free training. Then, those people get to know you, listen to your podcast, buy your entry level program. From there they buy next one and so on. He says this is just not reality. So, to explain this James uses this example: Someone goes into a bar and order a whiskey. Generally, they are going to go with the bottom shelf or tap. Or, if they know a lot about whiskey, they are going to go for the top shelf that may cost a little more, but they are going to go straight to it. They don’t start on the cheap stuff. If you start out at a high-ticket version first you can always work your way down.   Get people to pay you, retain members that you’ve already gotten. It’s easier to keep customers than it is to get new customers. It doesn’t matter if it is $99/month or $1,000/month you have to build the next steps for everyone into your site. That’s where you drop them in. Don’t make your members go through unnecessary steps. Typically the higher-tier client is the one that needs answers immediately. James actually has a place on his homepage that helps people find the product they need right now. For the highest level he does make them speak to him before they can join. He does this because he does not want the wrong people in there. It’s not good for him, other members, and it’s definitely not good for them if they’re a bad fit.   “Inbox Relief“ The first thing that James made us do when he met him, was empty our inbox. Our inboxes were a mess at first! But, James told us that we would never be able to manage our membership if we don’t clear our inbox. We took James’ inbox email course and we have been at zero in our inbox for the last several years. If you can’t manage little things, you can’t manage big ones, like a membership.   Set the culture. Our whole mission is to try to help families be able to quit their jobs and make an entire living online, to spend more time together. When we first started, some members were growing so quickly that they could not keep up and their membership would overwhelm them. That is why now we set limits, we tell our members to start beta groups. Because, if you don’t start small and steady, you’re not going to be able to contain the culture.   Why the membership? James says there are all kinds of different industry metrics where people say things like,

FL346 – We Celebrate Kathy Quitting Her Job and Reaching 300 Members in Her Membership Site! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:50

Membership Masters Podcast Preview – John Lee Dumas of Entrepreneurs On Fire Talks Building Successful Membership Site Communities | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 13:54

John Lee Dumas is an amazing personal friend, known for his podcast, Entrepreneurs on Fire and his website eofire.com. John is not only a prolific podcaster, he is also a true membership master inside his membership community, Podcasters’ Paradise. In it, he teaches aspiring podcasters how to start, build, grow, and monetize podcasts of their own. What You'll Learn: Memberships do have legs, you can give yourself a raise every day. The ins and out of lifetime offers. There are pros and cons to everything you do in life. How to turn ‘making a living into ‘making a fortune.' How to keep your finger on the pulse. All things website!   Show Notes In 2013, John was running along the bay in San Diego when he started thinking about his podcast and its’ success. But, he couldn’t quite put his finger on what was missing, things that he kept hearing from his audience. What are their: Struggles? Obstacles? Challenges? Some of them were saying they would love to start a podcast about ____. Their problem? They didn’t know where to start, what their first step should be. At the time, John would send them different blog posts, YouTube videos, whatever he could find on the internet. Every membership should pre-launch. You should never do anything until someone votes with their wallet. Because, a survey where you can click a little button, that’s easy. But, when it comes time to put the money on it, suddenly that changes if they’re not serious. People come for your courses, but they stay for the people. They stay for leadership. they stay for community.   Memberships do have legs, you can give yourself a raise every day. If you do out and sell 5 members tomorrow at $100/month, you just gave yourself a $500 raise! Each membership has its’ own journey. No matter what number of members you lose each month, you will replace them, you just have to keep moving. When John started Podcasters’ Paradise, he was focused on just getting it out there. He wanted to make sure the concept was proven and people had voted with their wallets. Then, once he had that down, it was just about figuring everything out. When membership officially launched, it was $500 for a lifestyle membership. No monthly recurring payment.  John’s fear at first was that people would just come for the trainings, tutorials, and templates. Every now and then, it would be about questions. A few months in, John put up a surveys and questions that asked what peoples’ favorite part of Podcasters’ Paradise was. The response was that it was videos, the templates, the webinars. Luckily, John left a spot for an ‘other’ option. It only took one person responding other. It said, “came for the tutorials, stayed for the community.” Everybody voted for that one. The first 20 people voted the answers that John put in, but then everyone started answering that they stayed for the community, after that person answered.   Lifetime offers not only give you a great influx of cash, build an anchor. A core crew inside of your membership, those members will probably buy everything else you’re ever going to sell. This reminds us of one of our members. Because she decided to make lifetime offers, she made $47,000 in one month. Then, the next two months, her community became more alive than ever! John Lee Dumas experienced this too. For his members that did the monthly payments up to a 12-month payout until their lifetime membership, they get to month 8 or 9, and they begin counting down to that payout being done. John knows that a decent percentage of those people that pay every single mont...

FL345 – We Talk To Brad Barrett of ChooseFI About His Podcast Success! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:11:26

Brad Barrett is one of our original community members - he was actually the first person we ever helped on the podcast way back on Episode 23! He has come a long way. On today’s show Shane and Brad talk about how Brad was able to quit his full-time job thanks to his online business, how a random message from a stranger led to Brad starting the ChooseFI Podcast (which has now been downloaded more than 1.4 million times every single month), and how he is bouncing back from the economic challenges brought on by the COVID pandemic.   What You'll Learn: * All about podcasting with Brad Barrett from the ChooseFI Podcast. (9:00) * Money makes the mission possible. (14:40) * Casting your stone. (19:00) * What sustains most podcasts? (25:45) * You have to monetize your community. (34:00) * Financial independence in crisis. (44:00) * Relationship will help your business survive everything. (56:00)   Show Notes Brad Barrett is only 1 of 2 people we’ve ever had on the Flipped Lifestyle Podcast three different times - and with good reason! Brad was on our show for the first time back in December of 2014 - (which in Internet years that is at least 100 years ago) on episode 23 of the podcast! Brad is so OG that he was the first person we recorded with the 1-on-1 coaching format of the show you see and hear today! Back then Brad had a website called RichmondSavers.com. He lives in Richmond, Virginia and he and his wife are known for saving money. They got their start by helping people use credit card reward points to travel the world! They had even put together a trip to Disney World for around $100 for their family of four and ended up getting up a lot of press from the New York Times! It changed everything for their website! Brad ended up helping people 1-on-1 through hybrid of a real-world and online business! He would literally take his lunch from work to coach people over the phone. Around December or January of that year he started thinking about how he could scale it. In early 2015 a free course was somewhat a novel idea. It wasn’t complicated just simply an email auto-responder. He had to put a scarcity around it simply because he didn’t know how many people he was going to be able to work with so he started a Facebook Group (which again was new at the time). Their first month they had 200 or 300 people signing up and only continued getting several hundreds of sign-ups as the months went on! They were able to scale it and since then they have put over 50,000 people through that course - insane!! Back then we weren’t totally in on the membership model, we were subserved in the course model. A few months later is when we went all in on the membership model! Brad told me a story years ago and it’s still one of my favorite things to tell people about online business. Memberships are what we teach but online business is what it’s all about. The internet and making money online and being able to reach out to anybody on earth is really how you can set your family free. I will never forget setting goals with Brad and him saying how he simply just wanted to pick his kids up off the school bus. I remember thinking, “man, if I can help that guy pick his kids up off the school bus that is an awesome goal.” Brad came back on Episode 72 and he told me that he now gets to pick his kid off the school bus. To this day it still about makes me want to cry because it is just such a worthy goal. And, that’s really why we all do what we do with online business. It’s about that level of control and freedom. Fast forward to today. Brad is co-host of an amazing podcast of his own called ChooseFI - with a huge following!

FL344 – We Help Brendan Grow His SEO Membership Site | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 50:02

Brendan Hufford is a great friend of ours that we have known for years now, we got to know him by being in the same spaces online. Brendan, like us, was a teacher. Now he works with a search engine optimization (SEO) agency and is trying to grow his very own SEO membership site. He knows how to teach way better than people he sees online trying to teach SEO to beginners. We know that this membership has huge potential and with our help we know Brendan will be back on the show soon with prolific on his membership site! What You'll Learn: * Sometimes you should just quit. (7:15) * Why start a membership site? (11:00) * Don’t work for free. (21:00) * It’s all about access, but not access to you. (25:45) * How to create urgency the right way. (29:00) * How to do a challenge (37:10)   Show Notes Brendan graduated college in 2006 and began piloting online class registrations for kids headed to college. He decided at that point to become a teacher and climbed the latter through continual education for himself. Brendan earned a masters degree in educational administration. He says, “it turns out if you’re a really great teacher being the boss of teachers is a different job.” He became an assistant principal and after crunching some numbers and doing some research, he realized he was the lowest paid assistant principal in the state of Indiana at the time. At that point he realized it was no longer worth the hassle and stress to stay in that position. He took a step back and decided to step down from being a principal to a teacher at a different school. Everyone around him thought he was throwing away his career. However the relief taken off him allowed Brendan to sell his online businesses at the time. Those business consisted of selling a blog and an e-commerce company to two different people. He sold those because he knew they would never be the thing to fulfill his goals. Brendan didn’t know what to do next but dove into SEO (search engine optimization). He was helping people for free, building case studies. He hated the constant pressure of wanting to quit his job as a teacher. So, at the end of the school year he took a job at a web-design agency. he says his co-workers were called designers but were amazing at marketing. After working there for a few years the pieces started to come together for Brendan’s career. All those God-given talents and experiences would come together for his own members and membership site!   Sometimes you should just quit. It’s not about just having enough money sometimes it’s better to just quit. Sometimes you need to just get away from that job that it bringing you down all the time. Even if society says quitting that job would be the wrong move, but sometimes you should take that an indication to run towards that. Who wants to be like the rest of society? We heard something that we love from Elon Musk. He said he loves when people: * Tell him he’s wrong. * Prove that he’s wrong. * Show him the right way to do things. He sees it as a gift from God because he doesn’t have to take the time to figure it out. Right after that he was talking about processes and he said: * If it’s taking too long for the process to work it’s probably the wrong process. The difference between good and great is looking at something that’s wrong and scrapping it. Do like Brendan, don’t stay in a rut! You are not throwing away your experiences, they will point you to next thing! The right thing.   Why start a membership site? Brendan has his own website now,

FL343 – We Help Jason Choose A Direction For His Investing Membership Site | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:40

Jason Tremere lives in Eastern Canada where he has a background in the computer science field as a programmer. He did systems analysis and even became an IT auditor. For the last 20 years or so Jason has done investing. When he was at one corporation he ran two investment clubs. He had about a dozen people in each one and they would meet weekly. In these clubs Jason would tell people what he looked for in a stock. Jason actually would have people put money in the market and they would watch it. Jason has decided that since he can teach this in person, it’s time to teach people the same things online through his very own membership site! What You'll Learn: * If you can teach in person, you can teach online. (6:30) * What it means to figure out your next step. (12:50) * You’ve got to be relatable. (17:45) * The price doesn’t really matter in the beginning. (19:00) * How often do you communicate with your members? (22:57) * How to let your content flow into other platforms. (25:00) * Why you don’t want to teach on your YouTube channel. (26:15) * How to do one thing until it’s done. (29:35) * A bigger market is not always better. (33:00)   Show Notes Investing has really been a hobby for Jason for the last 20 years. He truly enjoyed the analytic side of watching investments, helping others learn to understand and love it too.   If you can teach in person, you can teach online.  For Jason the appeal of bringing his work online is because he is not currently doing any work in person, but he still continues to invest in the stock market for himself. Some days making thousands of dollars. Jason is a master of all trades when it comes to investing. Not only does he invest in Canadian stock, but trades in the US too. And, then he invests in gold when the time is right for that market as well. Jason’s online membership would look like a paid virtual version of his invest clubs. He says that he could taking the people that are new to investing through the very foundational steps, taking them from mutual funds into ETFs. Then, he would take them into the active versions of investing that he likes to do. That area of online business is weird because everyone has their own little way they like to invest. It’s so personality driven even though a lot of people try to teach the stock market in online business. It’s all about, “can you do it and can you teach me how to do it?” It’s an easier nut to crack in the online business world if you know what you’re doing!   What it means to figure out your next step. When we see someone with so many questions swimming around in their head, sometimes it’s easier to say, “here’s your next step.” For Jason, this is probably what will work best: He doesn’t want to be convincing people to join the stock market. He should start his avatar at helloing moving the mutual fund into the market. That is really appealing to a lot of people! Here is what this does for Jason: It lets him be himself. He doesn’t have to do anything different he just has to tell his story.  Most people don’t want spread sheets, they want the story. The why you do it they way you do it. When they get in the membership and pay you money, then they’ll care about your spread sheets.   You’ve got to be relatable. We are in a Facebook group with a bunch of very successful entrepreneurs. One day someone asked what was successful. Of course I said, “get 200 people to pay you $50/month and make $120,000. Low energy, you get time with your family,

FL342 – We Help Josh Grow His Picture Book Membership | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:03

Josh Rageth is a 4th grade teacher, that has been teaching now for 7 years. In his first year, Josh began selling lesson plans on occasion for a third-party lesson plan site. He took action, something we love to see! With our help and his consistency, his possibilities on his picture book membership site are endless!   What You’ll Learn: * How to take action! (6:50) * Launch 101 (8:00) * The ins and outs of opening and closing the doors to your membership (10:35) * Price points 101 (11:35) * How to do something next level. (14:00) * Every business has a lull period. (17:00) * The importance of one-on-one calls (20:45) * How to capture your un-tapped audience. (25:00) * How not to make it too hard. (27:30) * The biggest mistake that anyone makes in online business. (30:15) * Great marketers have to look into the future. (34:00) Show Notes Two years ago Josh and his wife found out they were pregnant. They were already starting to figure out ways to make more money. However, that pregnancy was a very hard one on his wife and she ended up having to leave her job as a Special Education Assistant. So in turn Josh had to double-down on selling lesson plans, so that he could provide for his family. Josh began making new week-long lesson plans for a different picture book every day! These lesson plans were made for existing books, he basically made these lesson plans for specific books. He did this for 223 days straight! These lesson plans help teachers out. If the teacher needed a lesson plan on this specific book, they could buy his plans and they had all the activities for the entire week. It started out with books that Josh was using in class. Then, he moved onto 1st - 3rd grade popular books, because that’s where picture books are most needed. The lesson plans started giving him $2/month, then $10/month. Now, for about the last year Josh is making over $1,000 each month! It took a large volume of traffic to get there. At $2.75 or $3 a piece, it takes a lot of sales to get that number! To do this, he utilize SEO and how to drive searches to him. Josh was listening to a lot of podcasts about being a “teacher-preneur” and while talking to other people, he kept hearing people recommendation the Flip Your Life community. He spent his summer listening to the Flipped Lifestyle Podcast!   Take action! We saw Josh in our community posting about how he was taking action. Josh joined the Flip Your Life community and within two weeks he had his membership ready! He took the extra time he had during the Coronavirus pandemic, since he was teaching from home. His goal was to launch before the school year was out, so he did just that! It took a choice. Josh made a choice. He took action. He woke up early. He stayed up late. He did the launch, that’s why things are happening!   Launch 101 Josh had a list of 1,200 people when he first launched. Since then, he has been trying to grow that list through Facebook ads and is now up to 1,600 people. That a healthy email list, especially for just launching! When Josh launched he also had 3 beta members. If he can find 3 he can find 300! They are there, he has proven the concept. Josh started out by simply sending an email that said, ‘hey, I’m thinking about starting a membership site, click here if you’re interested.’ He got around 100 people saying they were interested! So he thought: “Okay, we have 100 people interested.” “Let’s start making this membership site.”

Quick Flip: We Help Michele Convert Her Email List Into Members | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 8:58

Michele Hayes is a Flip Your Life member, all the way from Melbourne, Australia! While she does not have many members in her education membership site just yet, she has good ones! Michele had done a great job at getting an email list of nearly 2,000 people! However, she didn’t have many members. So the question begs, how does Michele convert that list into members? People are already paying attention, the goal now is to figure out a solid strategy for her to quickly grow to 100 members.   The 'lowdown' on Michele: * Lives in Melbourne, Australia * Has her own education membership site * Has gotten nearly 2,000 people on her email list   Show Notes How to convert your email list into members. Quantity is good, but quality is equally as important! Michele's biggest mountain? Converting her epic email list of nearly 2,000 people, into members! * Right now, Michele’s membership is tiered at $29, $49, and $69. One of the first things we need to do is clean that up a little bit. It is so much better when you start a membership not to have tiers. We ourselves have tried and experimented with tiers, but for your sanity and ease of getting your membership site grown, pick one price to promote. In Michele’s case, we think $49 a month is perfect to start out with, of course this can always change later! * Then, we have our timing. Every niche has a calendar. While Michele has a big following in Africa and Asia, she has low numbers in Australia and the US. So, Michele needs to limit her advertising to Australia. This is because each country has different school calendars, different ways of teaching, the things that Michele teaches will most-likely do best with other Australians. She can still market to the US, however her advertising is going to be quite a bit different. * Talk to your email list. Go get your members.   Keep teaching. 2020 has been nothing short of worrisome for several reasons. One being the effects that COVID-19 has on literally every aspect of our daily lives. One of those, being everyone’s jobs and livelihoods. We certainly worried about this when we first started hearing about shutdowns in the US. We, like everyone else, were confused and disoriented. We worried about our own jobs, our company. We even own an education company that sells resources to schools and teachers. Much to our surprise, that business actually grew during the pandemic. All because our messaging changed a little bit. The goal is to find a way to grow, when you can grow, however you can do it tastefully.   You only need one product You only need one product, you really only need one lead magnet. You just have to be able to present it a hundred different ways. That’s marketing. Do a free trail, dollar trial, it’s all the same. All you have to do is use different promotions. Your only job is to make it relevant in different circumstances, getting your product in front of more people. Michele has a product that the members she has, love!   Everybody is looking for a better day at work. Create content around what you already know. People in your field want your knowledge to make their lives easier too. You are now the expert, so, teach your God-given experiences. Michele already saw this in her prolific email list of nearly 2,000 people! We actually started our entire membership site with only 250 people on our email list. Michele has a God-given gift to write. Knowing that, she started her consistent content by blogging for teachers. She gave different tips and tricks for inside the classroom, and people loved it!

Also, Michele has done free in-person workshops. Michele has gotten down what we love to teach: the intersection of what people want to consume and what you’re willing to create. We sent out an ad that said, ‘our stuff works online.’ We removed a part of our terms and conditions that said they couldn’t share it into a database. Just a slight change. We said, we’re going to open this up and we’re going to allow you to use it, in the way you use it now. We were able to barely bend and not really pivot, which is exactly what Michele did. Even though COVID-19 closed schools, Michele kept teaching. In doing so, she got 4X as many people join her. This is because more teachers were having to learn a new way of teaching, as everyone taught remotely. The goal is to find a way to grow, when you can grow, however you can do it tastefully.   Take the time to teach yourself tools. Over the years our membership site has evolved, we’ve tried a ton of different programs. Programs that we had to take the time to learn. One of our favorites by far, as you know, is Kajabi. The weekend that we set up my first sales funnel and first webpage on it, we realized this was the program that we needed. Our whole goal going in was to find a platform that we could promote and use to teach people how to create a whole business in a week. We say that to say this, you have to do your research.

Quick Flip: Jason Gets Nearly 200 Members | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 6:49

Jason and his wife Jody had started a pressure washing businesses in their town. After some time, they had grown that business to about $1M. However, in 2018 they sold that business. The Geiman family had been listening to the Flipped Lifestyle Podcast for several years prior to 2018. In the fall of 2019, they came to our Flip Your Life Live event. Back then, they had about 2 members. We, of course told them to build their audience, hammer that nail over and over again. For them, this meant taking the view off of the memberships. But, what built their 5-figure monthly income with 189 was: learning to gain trust, learning to build their audience, start getting testimonials and success stories. Since then, the Geimans have been very active on YouTube, so that is where most of their online traffic has been coming in. This year, Jason has been uploading 4 YouTube videos a week, getting their channel around 200,000 views a month. Which is where now, they sell their memberships and get around 20-30 members a week, talk about being prolific!   The 'lowdown' on Jason: * Full-time firefighter * Previously owned his own pressure-washing business * Now makes a 5-figure monthly income from his pressure-washing online membership * https://www.pressurewashhelp.com   Show Notes Turn your membership into a community. Not only is Jason getting members, but building a community. He is having not only his videos for the members, but members are posting videos of their stories and growth, in a personal Facebook group. Therefore, they are growing together! It keeps people paying over and over again. You have to show up consistently for your audience. If someone wants to learn how to pressure wash, there’s probably not someone around that can do that. But for Jason’s members, he is there for them, wherever they are. He is accessible. Now they can build this business, now they can do this thing, through Jason’s community. These members are not in competition with one-another because they are from all over. They are spread out. Now they have a community that they can collaborate with.   You don’t know how far your stone’s throw will go. Who knows? The business that your members are creating to provide for their families may be passed down through generations. A generational gift that will continue to help families for years and bless far many more people than you could ever have imagined. All because you decided to create your membership site.   Your membership will give you and your family freedom. Jason is a full-time firefighter, has been for several years. His goal is to be able to quit his 9-5 job. He had not been able to hit the goal because it’s scary to make that leap. Now, thanks to his 189 members, they have just paid off their van and the only debt they have is for their house! They are bringing in more money than they have ever made! Because of that, their new goal is to save up for 6 months of expenses and Jason is finally going to quit his job! His retirement form his job would have been $2,000 a month. But now, he doesn’t have to worry about losing his retirement because he is making far more than that!   Become less accessible. Jason already has his core members, now he has to replace churn. His next steps? Become much less accessible and become much more of a trainer, who answers questions within his community. Jason’s videos will now have to shift to more testimonials, much more results, pointing people towards his free trials. For him, this means leaving out information accessible in his YouTube and only giving that detaile...

When we got a Voxer message from Jason Geiman a few weeks ago saying ‘you’re not going to believe this we got 100 members.’ We were pumped! Then, much to our surprise, we got a message a few days later saying Jason and his wife Jody's membership had reached 150 members we were blown away! So, we were absolutely floored when we heard Jason and his wife had reached 189 members!  Quick Flip – Better Than Happy, Jody Moore’s Amazing Podcast and Membership Success | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 8:02

Jody has come a long way since she was a Flip Your Life member! Not only has she changed her and her family's lives, by reaching more than 4,000 members in her life coaching membership site, she is changing lives of people everywhere! Not to mention her amazing success with, the Better Than Happy Podcast, her own podcast that she uses in correlation with her life coaching!   The 'lowdown' on Jody: * Host of the Better Than Happy Podcast * Life Coach * Has more than 4,000 online members * https://jodymoore.com/about/   Show Notes You don’t have to have a big launch. A great way to start is exactly how Jody did! Go ahead and open up your site, lock people (beta members) into that introductory price. Jody also uses a semi-launch strategy. Which means she opens and closes the doors at different prices each month. These are almost like ‘mini launches,’ that help her keep urgency for her membership site. This also helps by keeping her from being overwhelmed by a massive influx of people all at one time. This helps you assist and give your attention to those people that came in when you opened the flood gates this time, deal with that water. Then, next month you can do the same!   You can reach thousands of people. Brick by brick your membership site will start scaling and getting wider. Then, you have thousands of people you can reach every day. For Jody, her membership site has 4,000 members. How could she ever talk to that many people? It wouldn’t be possible to do that all at one time! So, Jody uses: * A coaching model as a tool to help them solve their problems and achieve their goals. She uses membership calls, classes, every month on a certain topic. She makes these calls to where her members can either join live or replay it later. * Then, Jody utilizes live coaching calls or Q+As. She does this by bringing an a member through live call, coaches them, and everybody else gets to hear it. (This is very similar to our podcast interviews), This helps the members with the same issues all get their resolution at the same time!   Define your own success. You can only base your success off of what you do. What looks like a member successfully following your teaching, may be different from what they do. Sometimes when we work with people on our membership site, we tend to want to do hand-holding because again, it’s hard not to get emotionally invested in each step of their journeys. But, a lot of times when we let members have their own journeys, mistakes, and experiences, people become much more successful. You don’t want to rob people of the joy of solving their own problem. You want to give people direction, not instruction. Do not give out the step-by-step instruction. Give a strategy, allow your members to find their solution.   There is no cap to your potential. Growing up, most of us are told that you work your tail off through college, for a job that had a cap. For us, we hit a point where our floor, because of our memberships, was everybody else’s ceiling. It took us a few years to get through that launch world where if you don’t get 1000 members or $100K when you launch, then you’re not a success. But, through a membership, we have the mindset of giving ourself raises every day! Maybe get one more member every day, that will work, right? That is how we developed our philosophy of: * Consistent * Relentless * Prolific If we can pick one thing that we do consistently, which for us is our podcast.

Jody Moore (Better Than Happy Podcast) Celebrates 4,000 Members | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:52

We were on a member call a couple of weeks ago. One of our members said, 'hey, someone was talking about you all the other day.' So, we looked up this podcast. It was the Better Than Happy Podcast with Jody Moore. The name sounded familiar. When we listened to this episode that we were mentioned in, and she was just going on about her membership and how she learned about them from us! So, of course we had to talk to her!   The 'lowdown' on Jody: * Host of the Better Than Happy Podcast * Life Coach * Has more than 4,000 online members * https://jodymoore.com/about/   What You'll Learn: * You don't have to have a big launch (5:10) * How to reach thousands of people (9:35) * Your membership site can evolve as you do (11:35) * Feeling the weight of leading your members (14:40) * Define your own success (18:00) * You have to get A done before you can get B (21:40) * There is no cap to your potential (25:35) * There are sewing seasons and reaping seasons (34:42) * How to grow (37:10) * Picture the milestone you’re pursuing (42:00) * Be a leader - at all times! (44:20)   Show Notes Jody is a great example of how you really can change your life and others, through the membership model. The membership model allows more people access to Jody's life coaching, and allows her to help more people at the same time. More than 4,000 members, if we're getting technical. But, those members don't even know that she has that big of a following, because her membership, like ours, allows her the ability and freedom to devote her attention where she is needed most. You don’t have to have a big launch. A great way to start is exactly how Jody did! Go ahead and open up your site, lock people (beta members) into that introductory price. Jody also uses a semi-launch strategy. Which means she opens and closes the doors at different prices each month. Like Jody, her membership site structure changed early on the beginning. For her, a community was not exactly best for her model. And,
