Can’t Miss Moments Each week Jocelyn and I share moments that we might have missed if we had not started our online business. We hope these moments inspire you to see the possibilities and freedom online business could provide for your family. “Today’s Can’t Miss Moment is volunteering at Isaac’s school. Not too long ago, they had some testing and after their testing, depending on what scores they get, they have a wall of handprints where the children can put their handprint on if they receive distinguished scores. I was able to take some time off, go up to his school and I was able to see him actually put his handprint up on the wall for scoring those distinguished scores. It just means so much to him to have me there at his school, just to support him and be there when he’s there.  He thinks that’s really cool.  So, I’d love to be able to go there from time to time and volunteer.” You can connect with S&J on social media too!

It's a unique and fun conversation we just had to share again!  Enjoy! Can't listen now?  Read the transcript below: Jocelyn:   Hey y’all! On today’s podcast, we celebrate our 100th episode with our special guest, Pat Flynn. Shane:   Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast, where life always comes before work. We’re your hosts Shane and Jocelyn Sams. Join us each week as we teach you how to flip your lifestyle upside down by selling stuff online. Are you ready for something different? Alright, let’s get started. What’s going on guys? Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast. We’re super excited that you are here listening today, because we are celebrating our 100th episode of the Flipped Lifestyle podcast. Jocelyn:   That’s right. We have been coming to you for almost 2 years now, which is pretty awesome. Shane:   And we’re just so thankful for our audience. It’s amazing every week as we watch it grow. We’re just thankful that you have stuck it out with us and that you’re here listening week after week. We can’t wait to bring you more great content going forward. We’re not done at 100, we’re going to keep this thing going for as long as we can, until we can accomplish our goal of helping as many families as possible flip their life with online business. Now, normally our show is all about bringing members of our Flip Your Life community on, giving them a live consulting call right on air, helping them take their online business to the next level and sharing that with you guys — the listeners — so that you can pick up tips and then you can take your online business to the next level as well. But for the 100th episode, and just the 100th episode, we’re gonna change things up a little bit. We normally don’t bring on experts or gurus or any kind of guest on to our show, but today we’re gonna make an exception. We discovered online business by listening to podcasts just like you’re doing right now. And one guy was very influential in our early days getting started online, so to bring everything full circle we wanted to bring on a good friend of ours, the guy that kind of introduced us to online business on to the show and just talk about the journey so far, talk a little bit about life and a little bit about business… Today’s guest on the show is none other than Pat Flynn. Jocelyn:   And for those of you who don’t know Pat — and there are some people out there — one of the reasons that I knew that we had sort of made it, is because one time somebody said that they had discovered Pat Flynn through our podcast. Shane:   Introduce me to that Pat Flynn guy! He’s pretty good! Jocelyn:   You’re welcome Pat. So, you can find Pat over at smartpassiveincome.com and he also has the Smart Passive Income podcast, so definitely check that out! You can also listen to our episode on Pat’s podcast by clicking on the link in today’s shownotes and you can find that over at flippedlifestyle.com/episode100. We first met Pat in person in 2013 at a live event, and that live event lead to our SPI episode that I just mentioned, and also to the launch of this website and this podcast. Shane:   Also, we maintained that relationship with Pat over the years. We’ve got a lot in common with Pat, our family make is very the same, we got young kids — a little boy and a little girl — We just got a lot in common with Pat. He’s a great guy to hang out with, one of the most real people that you’ll ever meet in the online space,

Best of: Our Story – Chapter 5: The Promised Land | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 59:25

In this Best of Episode, we re-visit Chapter 5 of the “Our story” series.  Learn how we not only quit our jobs but bought the home of our dreams (and how you can too)! This episode was originally published on October 31, 2017.  You can check out the original episode here:  https://flippedlifestyle.com/podcast168/ FULL TRANSCRIPT: Shane: Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast where life always comes before work.  We’re your hosts, Shane and Jocelyn Sams. We’re a real family who figured out how to make our entire living online.  And now, we help other families do the same.  Are you ready to flip your life?  Alright.  Let’s get started. What’s up, guys? Welcome back to another episode of the Flipped Lifestyle podcast.  We are super excited to be with you again today to give you the fifth and final chapter of our story.  This is the story of how two teachers from Southeast Kentucky ended up building a massive online business, and we want to tell you all of the things that we did to get to this point. For those of you who may be just tuning in, make sure you check out the last few episodes where we tell all of the backstory. That brings us to where we’re going to talk about today.  We actually have an author that is writing a book about our story, and we thought it would be super fun to record some podcasts to tell you guys everything from the beginning so that you can get the inspiration and hope that you needed to build your own online business and create your own story. In last week’s episode, we talked about how we discovered online business, how we figured out how to make money online, and how we made $2,700 off of the first digital product that we sold to just around 200 people, just a little bit over 200 people.  That’s all we had on the e-mail list when we made our first money online. This week, we’re going to talk about how we scaled that first initial, digital product into the huge online business that we have today. This is an online business that makes us hundreds of thousands of dollars in passive income, a business that lets us have total control over our lives.  We literally control every minute of our lives.  We don’t have to answer to anybody else’s schedule, don’t have to follow anyone else’s orders at a 9-to-5 or anything like that.  We have total control of our lives, and a business that lets us give our children a life that we never could have dreamed possible. For those of you who are wondering, yes, my voice is a little shot.  I do not always sound like this, if this is the first time that you’ve ever tuned in to The Flipped Lifestyle podcast.  I am a huge University of Kentucky fan, as most of you know.  Jocelyn and I went to the University of Kentucky.  We love UK football, UK basketball and all UK sports.  Well, I went to a UK game Saturday, and my beloved Kentucky Wildcats beat the Tennessee Volunteers.  I yelled a lot and I actually lost my voice for three days.  But it’s back today and we’re going to jump in here.  We’re going to dive through it and continue this story. Jocelyn: Alright, we told you in the last podcast about how we had launched the Elementary Librarian website, and about how I had a made a month of lesson plans just to see if they would sell.  Lo and behold, we sold over $2,000.  Then we started thinking, “Okay, how do we make this happen again and again?” I continued to write.  I did regularly scheduled content every week.  Just write about things that were happening in my library and things that were bothering me, and that I wanted to help other people with.  In the midst of all that, people would keep signing up for my email list.  I would gather more and more e-mails.

We're your hosts, Shane and Jocelyn Sams. We're a real family that figured out how to make our entire living online. And now we help other families do the same. Are you ready to flip your life? All right. Let's get started. Shane Sams: What's going on, everybody? Welcome back to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast. It is great to be back with you again today. I am super excited for this episode. I know I'm super excited every week. I'm always excited. That's what I do. I just live excited. But I am really, really excited about this one because we have an awesome guest for the show today that we met at a live event. They're out there in the Flipped Lifestyle universe, listen to the podcast all the time, and we got to talk to them at a live event and they have one of the best niche markets I've ever heard in my entire life and I cannot wait to share this episode with you today. Please help us welcome our guests, Kenny and Nancy Troiano. Guys, welcome to the program. Kenny Troiano: Well, thank you for having us. It's a pleasure. It's an honor, actually, because we've been listening to you for so long. It's amazing that we're actually able to do this. Nancy Troiano: Yeah, really glad to be with you. Jocelyn Sams: I love it. Yes. It is great to talk to you guys. We actually just met you not too long ago in California, so it's great to talk to you again and I can't wait to dive in to what it is you're doing. Shane Sams: Yeah, we were speaking at an event out in San Diego and we said, "Hey, let's have a meetup." So we put the all points bulletin out to all the Flipped Lifestyle email list. We said, "Hey, is anybody in San Diego. I know this is last minute, but we're going to be-" Jocelyn Sams: "Come meet us tonight." Shane Sams: "Come meet us on this patio at this random hotel in San Diego." And you guys showed up and I'm so glad you did, because you have an amazing story. Kenny Troiano: I saw the email. I said, "Hey, what the heck, let's throw that out there, see if they'll want to talk." And you guys invited us. And then I told Nancy right away, I called her on the phone. She was at work and I said, "You won't believe this, but we've been invited to talk to Shane and Jocelyn. You want to go?" And she's like, "Yeah." Nancy Troiano: Heck yeah. Shane Sams: "Heck yeah we do." And we were sitting around a fire and I remember everybody was sitting around it like, we had a lot of people show up. There was like 25 or 30 people ended up around those two fires that we had. And I remember sitting in front of that fire at first and the wind was blowing out on that patio and I thought I was going to get set on fire. And then the people that were hosting the live event, it was Pat Flynn's Flynn-Con event and his business partner comes up to me and goes, "Shane, Shane, Shane." And is said, "What's up, man?" And he goes, "They told us that you had the whole patio reserved and we've got all our sponsors and we want to come out here and sit on the patio." And I'm like, "We don't have the whole patio reserved." He's like asking us at his event if they could come out on the patio and I was like, "That's right. Flipped Lifestyle is taking over the world, baby." Nancy Troiano: Yes, they are. Kenny Troiano: I was actually standing next to you when he said that to you. Shane Sams: Oh, yeah. Right. That was amazing. Jocelyn Sams: That was a little weird. All right. Let's tell everybody else what you guys do out th...

Best of: Our Story – Chapter 4: How a Lawnmower and 11 Cents Changed Our Lives Forever | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:32

In this Best of Episode, we re-visit Chapter 4 of the "Our story" series. This episode was originally published on October 31, 2017.  You can check out the original episode here:  https://flippedlifestyle.com/podcast167/ FULL TRANSCRIPT Shane: Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast where life always comes before work.  We’re your hosts, Shane and Jocelyn Sams. We’re a real family who figured out how to make our entire living online.  And now, we help other families do the same.  Are you ready to flip your life?  Alright.  Let’s get started. What's up, guys!  Welcome back to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast!  So excited that you joined us today.  We're getting into another chapter of our journey talking about how we basically went from employees to discovering online business to where we are today, living the Flipped Lifestyle. And on the last episode, we talked a lot about how we decided that we were going to try to do something different.  We had settled in for the long haul, 27 years of teaching on each of us until we could retire.  Life events happened that showed us that that was not the life that we wanted to live.  We had a terrible experience with our child in a daycare center where they were mistreating him and then an awful experience with a boss at our workplace that basically made us say, "Hey, this is not the life for us.  We are going to do something else, we are going to find something different." Jocelyn: And if there is one thing about us that you will realize from listening to all these stories and even things that we've done since then, we don't mess around.  When we decide to do something, we find a way to get it done. Shane: That is really where we pick up today is, figuring out what we were going to do.  We knew the result that we wanted.  We had talked about it, and I think that I wanted this a little more than Jocelyn, a little more passionately this time. Jocelyn: Well, because my situation wasn't terrible.  Aside from my child having a terrible experience at daycare, we got him out of that situation.  He was in a better situation where I knew he was safe.  At that point, my school was okay.  I had to continue to work because we had to pay our bills.  We had bought a house, and the only way we could pay for that is if I had a job. Shane: At this time, I was so furious, I was kind of like, "To heck with it.   Let's just quit.  I'm done.  Let's just quit tomorrow.  We will figure it out."  And Jocelyn, ever the pragmatist said, "We have to keep our lights on and buy food."  And I was like, "Oh yeah.  That!" Jocelyn: Yeah, those pesky things. Shane: Those pesky things that you have to do in life.  Jocelyn is very good at channeling my craziness I guess is the best way to say it. There is this awesome meme that Jocelyn sent to me one time it was like two stick, and one of the stick man was throwing up a rainbow on the other stick man's head.  And the next scene, the stick man used the force to stop the rainbow-- Jocelyn: Did some calculations-- Shane: And in the next scene, she was writing math problems on a board.  And the next scene, she had a welder's hat and a hammer and was forging something, and in the next scene, it was like a bucket.  It was catching all of the rainbow into this machine she had created and then in the last scene, it was the stick man who was throwing up the rainbow.  The other stick person put a hat on that person, and it was a laser beam of a rainbow.  Jocelyn and I are like, "That sums up our entire relationship at all times.  Puking the rainbow."  Basically, that is what we did here.  Jocelyn was like, "Look, I get it.  I know where you are coming from.  I understand.  But basically,

Super excited to welcome another member of the Flipped Lifestyle community onto the show so that we can help them take their business to the next level. We're really, really, really super excited today to welcome Theresa Steckel. Theresa, welcome to the show. Theresa Steckel: Hey guys, thanks for having me. I'm super excited to be here. Shane Sams: And lest you think that Shane and Jocelyn are perfect I'm going to tell you what happened earlier today. We looked up, and I got a notification that said someone had joined a Zoom call. And I looked down, and I was like, "What?" Because we were getting ready for an appointment. We had a student teacher meeting at Isaac's school as we were getting ready- Jocelyn Sams: It was a parent teacher not a student teacher. Shane Sams: Or a parent teacher not a student teacher. That's right. We're not the students. We're the parents. But we had this parent teacher meeting, so we were getting ready to go to that, and I looked down, and I was like, "Oh no. We've double booked, the dreaded double booking when five people are controlling your calendar and you're not one of them." And so I looked over at Jocelyn. I was like, "I think we have a Podcast right now." Jocelyn Sams: And I was like, "What?" And I'm usually such a slave to the calendar. It's so funny. I get up every day, and I look at it, and I'm like, "Oh no we've got A, B, and C to do," but for whatever reason this morning I didn't do that. Shane Sams: And then for some reason we had A and then B, B, B, and C because there was all sorts of stuff going on at the same time. So Theresa was kind enough to move this down a couple hours, and we have finally gotten on the call together. So we are sorry that we stood you up a couple hours ago, Theresa. Theresa Steckel: You know, that is just the way it goes sometimes. Jocelyn Sams: Yup, life happens. I really hate rescheduling Podcasts, but thank you so much for being kind enough to do that for us. Theresa Steckel: You're welcome. I really am just happy to be on the call, so I appreciated you guys rescheduling too. Jocelyn Sams: Alright. Well, I'm excited for you to talk a little bit about your background. We talked about it before. Before people come onto the Podcast we do like a little intake survey so we can learn more about you, and it sort of guides our discussion and lets you know what we're going to be asking you so you can start thinking about it. And one of the things that we ask about is your background, and I think your background is really interesting. So can you get into that just a little bit. Tell us about how you started and what it is that you do and anything else you want to tell us. Theresa Steckel: Yeah, so going way, way back we moved to Oklahoma, I don't know, like 24 years ago, and I became a housekeeper in a nursing home making a whopping $4.25 an hour and decided that ... I got talked into going to an LPN program. One of my friends talked me into it, so I got admitted into this LPN program, and she did not make the class, so I ended up there by myself. Shane Sams: Oh no. Theresa Steckel: Yeah.

We’re a real family who figured out how to make our entire living online.  And now, we help other families do the same.  Are you ready to flip your life?  Alright.  Let’s get started. What's up, guys?  Welcome back to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast.  Super excited to be back with you again today as Jocelyn and I continue our story about our entrepreneurial journey so that we can inspire you and show you what is possible, kind of what happened to us, this whirlwind ride that led to where we are today with the Flipped Lifestyle as compared to our old 9-to-5 jobs. In our last episode, we talked about how we got married, how we ended up finally getting married, then we got engaged.  It was a really, really whirlwind process because I was coaching football.  I just got a job at West Virginia as a graduate assistant.  Jocelyn was living in Lexington, Kentucky.  I was moving to Morgantown, and I basically called Jocelyn one day and we had a nice logical discussion about if we should get married or not. Jocelyn: Of course we did. Shane: Of course we did. Jocelyn: Because that's how I roll. Shane: I like to tell Jocelyn I was on one knee on the other end of the phone, she just couldn't see it at the time. Jocelyn: Yeah right. Shane: That is totally not true.  We were just seriously having a good conversation. We decided that it would be a good idea that we should get married on July 3.  What year did we get married? Jocelyn: 2004. Shane: 2004.  Okay, that was a total man thing.  Not even remembering the year.  I do remember the date.  It was July 3rd, and because that was the only day we had free before we had to get back to work.  Most people have long engagements and all this romance, and they plan all these things.  We had a month and a half, maybe two months.  We just immediately called all of our family and we were being like, "Hey, you got the third free?  Because we've got to get married very, very fast." Jocelyn: And the bad thing was Shane's brother, Aaron, he was on a mission trip in Russia.  We decided this, and he was going to be gone during this time, but it was the only day that we had.  If we didn't get married on this particular day, it was going to be another year before we had a chance to do it again.  Shane had to call Aaron.  He was the first person to know, and he was like, "Look, man, I know you are going to Russia, but we need to get this over with." Shane: We were just talking about our marriage in the terms of, "We got to get this over with.  I mean, I got to marry this guy.  I don't know what is going on.  We should get it over with." Jocelyn: That is pretty much how romantic this story is.  So anyway, we really do love each other, we really do. Anyway, he had to call Aaron and be like, "Hey, man, I know you can't come, but is that cool with you?" Shane: And he was like, "Oh yeah, it's cool, man."  I'm like, "Great! Okay!"  So I started calling everybody, and Jocelyn started calling everybody.  I've got a huge family.

FL307 – How to Convince Your Spouse or Partner that Online Business Isn’t a Scam | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:11:56

In today's episode, we explore how to convince your spouse that online business is not a scam. FULL TRANSCRIPT Jocelyn Sams: Hey y'all. On today's podcast, we explore how to convince your spouse that online business is not a scam. Shane Sams: Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast where life always comes before work. We're your hosts, Shane and Jocelyn Sams. We're a real family that figured out how to make our entire living online. Now, we help other families do the same. Are you ready to flip your life? All right, let's get started. Shane Sams: What's going on everybody? Welcome back to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast. It is great to be back with you again today. I am really excited about today's show. I'm always excited about the show, but I'm super excited about this one because we are welcoming back Daniel Hulsman to the show, and this time he has brought his wife with him, Katelyn Hulsman is here too. So, Daniel, Katelyn, welcome to the show. Daniel Hulsman: Thanks for having us. We're really excited to be back and I'm really excited that Katelyn / nervous that Katelyn is here to talk about what she's doing now. Katelyn Hulsman: Thank you so much for including me. Jocelyn Sams: Absolutely. We were so excited. Not too long ago, Daniel posted about you getting involved in the community and I could not wait to show Shane because the very first words out of our mouth was, “They have to be on the podcast.” Shane Sams: They have to be on the podcast. For those of you who may not remember Daniel's first episode on the Flipped Lifestyle podcast, it was episode 212. We actually just posted it again in a best of edition on Saturday of last week. And in that episode we introduced you to Daniel Hulsman. Daniel had written me, I like to call it a scathing email full of doubt and disbelief of what we were doing. Jocelyn Sams: I’m not sure it was quite scathing. Daniel Hulsman: I was trying to get as much fury into it as possible. Shane Sams: There was some fury. There was definitely some fury in this email. But I remember looking at that email and I said, “Hey, I'm going to email this guy back and I'm going to be like, “Hey look, let's talk about this bro. Let's go back and forth.”” Jocelyn Sams: And a lot of times when we get emails that are hateful or, whatever, I will just say, “You know what, just delete it and move on.” But Shane made it his personal mission to get you on board with what we were doing and he was successful. And I'm happy to say that this is over a year later since we talked to you the first time and you still love us. We're still all friends. Shane Sams: I remember when you sent me that email, and I think I read the whole email in episode 212. So if anybody wants to listen to that, go back to episode 212 and check it out. But, I remember when I read it, at first I was mad and then Jocelyn was kind of like, “Delete it.” But then I was like, “I'm going to get this guy to join the community. I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I'm going to get this guy to join the community.” I write you an email back, you joined the community, we bring you on the podcast. Turns out your online business was able to make a little money, right? Daniel Hulsman: Yes, it was. It sure was. No, but let's be fair. What you wrote me back was not an email, that was a short novel. Shane Sams: Yes, I prefer a novella. That's what I’m going to go with. Daniel Hulsman: Of course, yes. Shane Sams: I'm going to go with a novella. But yes, I wrote you an epoch. That's what it was. It was an epoch. But it was awesome and I remember you writing me back and it was just kind of like, “All right, you're right. Let's go.” Daniel Hulsman: Got enough now. Shane Sams: But then,
