House is a Journey

Nocturnes 3.0   Third and most probably last instalment of the Nocturnes series. Keeping up with the nightly vibe with some cheeky edits and my first original mash-up with “It’s You I Touch”. If you feel like having a laugh scroll to 58:46.. The added sample is priceless.. Best way I can describe the final set is as an attempt to blend Deep with Progressive house with a NYC undercurrent vibe. HVOB   Highlights Bar “Cooler Couleur », which is the only weak track and here because of the french accent sample, all tracks in the playlist are worth running to Beatport and Traxsource and paying for the original versions. “It’s You I Touch” is my first real attempt at a mash-up. "Touch" by Buraq & Patrick Podage vs. "It’s You" by FCL. I hope someone with real talent will pick up what is a good idea and make it great… Because those 2 tracks are begging for it. ”Leaves Falling” progressive trancy track with a Balearic tinge. It reminds me of early Chicane and Café del mar. “Sky in Your Eyes” you will recognize the main pads line and it will take you back! “Going Crazy” and “Start Again”, two solid tunes, with great male vocals and perfection of a bass line.. “No Eyes” from Claptone, with “Follow The Step”, the real gem of the set. I love the bass line, the production is beyond reproach, deep, sexy, progressive… Into “Follow The Step”, which was the discovery of the Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC), I am not sure I am giving the tune the credit it deserves and I will came back to it further down the road. Fairly satisfied with my 2 edits of “Black Room Boy” and “Let’s Play” giving them the NYC remix treatment with a Kev Cruz sample I hope put to good use. “All Cats Are Grey”, if you are an adult check the tune (starting at 58:46) you will have a laugh.. I stumbled on the Ed Weather sample a few months ago.. Priceless.. Finishing with "Spectra" and "Moon", 2 fantastic progressive gems... I may start the following progressive mix with "Spectra" to give the tune a bit more exposure. Not quite sure where I will go next, most probably soulful or if I have the time I will prepare an edit set for some freinds of mine dropping in over the weekend.. We shall see. In the meantime.. 2013 May "En Mai fais ce qu'il te plaît!" French Proverb which literally means " In May do what pleases you"..  Today is my birthday and I am stuck at home with a massive head cold.. Thought I would give myself a little present and put together a set JUST FOR ME...  A collection of deep, cookie, eclectic tunes, which I would hate to forget and lose in the dark recesses of my hard drive because they do not fit the strict format of Deep, Soulful, Progressive of this podcast. So here it is, jams I like, sounds I want to be able to access in the distant future, tracks that may not have the vocal hooks I love, yet trigger emotions at a complete different level. If you do not want to indure a bit of tech, a bit of deep, a bit of NY style, a bit of garage, a bit of acid, a bit of jackin' do not bother with the set and wait for the next one.. Yes add some accapellas and everyone who knows me, gets the idea.. Very current, real Deep, edgy, funky… “I Saw Yo Girl” I always have had a thing for Hip/Hop.. Edgy track with an acid tinge.. “Pieces” Flashmob is becoming bigger by the day.. and I love the acapella with the brit accent.. Another edgy track, which may really push your limits. “New York Style” Jerk House Connection French and really good.. I love the NY feel, I love the reggae vocals.. and it stays melodic. “Be Right There”.. Current, modern, hatched beats had to included a bit of Jackin’ House in this set.. “All I Have Is Love” continuing the darker NY feel with a greek remixer Elias Tzikas. “Let It Go” Deep Tech House at its very best.. I wanted a wake up track with a nice groove at this moment in the set.. This came up.. “What you need” now in the back part of the set, introducing a bit a bit of funk and sugar.. “Another Way” another Golf Clap track with Grant Nelson’s giving it a UK feel.. If you have stayed with me so far, you are starting to have fun!! “My Urban Soul”.. Roland Clark, Urban Soul.. Bringing you down but how can I resist… “The Whistle Song” Frankie Knuckles seminal classic gets the Supernova remix treatment.       2013 April FashionistAnn   Recorded last month for a very dear friend of ours, Ann G. Set is meant to be smart, classy, elegant, soft, current, switched on, yet with a sense of unmistakable fashion style. A bit like Ann.. Straight out of the mixer with no added post-production frills. I sat on it waiting for her to mention it.. It never came and I assumed it wasn't woth uploading! But my harshest critics (wife and kids) were listening to the mixer output in the car yesterday and requested to have a cut CD.. They contacted me for an exclusive second “Nocturnes” which as they mentioned could include a few surprise outside of the normal House genre. At the crossroads of Progressive House, Trance with a definite Indie flavour. I expect it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, with some lauding it and some hating it. There are a few ambient and instrumental only tunes giving the set a unique feel within what I normally publish. It is a Journey, take it, I am hoping it is a rewarding one. March 2013 Light n’ Easy   Mixed on the fly at 30,000 ft on CX 134 bound for Hong Kong.   As the title alludes, easy listening Deep and Soulful set.   If I think about it, Light n’ Easy is my first real 2013 mix. I had let accumulated 26 hours of recently purchased tunes on my hard drive and the task of sieving through the sheer mass was daunting. With 8 and half hours spare flying to HK, I knew I had a chance to listen, categorize, rate, level all those tunes.. From there it was just a short step to open Traktor and let the set flow wherever the mood and tunes would take me.. Done on the fly, it is patchy but the result has unity and its own flavour. It is Light n’Easy.. Random Soul, Australian talent, is heavily promoted and they fully deserve the focus. There are a couple of older tracks offered by DJ Remixers and the set fluctuates from happy, beachy house to deeper soulful tunes.   Playlist: 2012 Watching You (Yogi's RSR Boogie Mix). Portia has and amazing voice and the Layabouts do what they always do pure perfection. “I Feel” by Logistix pres. Deon Nathan, a soulful gem, which other better remix I could not use because .. I just could not find the beat and refused to auto synch it in order to preserve the integrity of the tune for another set. From “Have Mercy” to “Only Love” and “What’s Going On” we are at the congruence of Classic and Modern Soulful House. As for “Someone Like You”, one of the best release of 2012, I just had to give you the pleasure of enjoying the very recently released  tFull Vocal Mix..   Two little gems offered by DJs.. “Every Breath You Take” and the “Missing/Dreams” mash-up.. very clever. As for “Someone Like You”, one of the best release of 2012, I just had to give you the pleasure of enjoying the very recently released  tFull Vocal Mix..   Two little gems offered by DJs.. “Every Breath You Take” and the “Missing/Dreams” mash-up.. very clever. Nocturnes 1.0. And the  Night moves on... Nocturnes is French for Nightly.. The great Chopin named some of his pieces "Nocturnes", far from me to draw any sort of kinship yet put this set on, dim the lights, grab a book, read, meditate or just chill. For all the Nightcrawlers. Readers and other sleep-impaired creatures out there! Deep and Progressive with a hint of very soft trance..From 99 to 120 bpm. A MUCH slower pace than what I usually serve.. Meant to relax the listeners. I gave it a month ago to a young man, whose comment was " nice but not much schtick".. that's when I knew I sort of got it right ;).. I have had it on my HD for more than a month but I could not decide whether I would go soulful or progressive.. Deeply Twisted Sexy Tribal Affair..   Have had this set on my HD since NYD.. It is the After Party Set.. If you have no idea what an after-party is,  it’s what happens when the main crowd has long gone home.. Whoever is left has somewhat survived the night, as for the DJ on the decks.. well same thing... After Party sets are different to main sets. They are ALL about the Beat & the Bass! Both the Beat & Bassline will (or won’t) bring the punters back to the Dance floor. Tunes do not need to be commercial (whoever is left is usually either f@cked up or really committed to Jack). Normally only tight crews are left, they were here to dance and sipped it to the last drop/beat.. The whole idea of an After Party set is to slowly but surely put the spark back in the eyes of whoever is left and not totally comatose. For DJs, it can be a real treat because they have total creative freedom with revelers they know will get it IF the music is good. Those sets are twisted routes to bring back tired and spacy house-heads back to peak time and put one last smile on their faces before they say their goodbyes, hug, put their sunglasses on and are ready for the walk of shame....  Here is my After Party set.. On the darker side of Deep, with a bit of Sexy Tribal and enough Funk not to completely lose you.  Some sugar but a lot of spices and PA. I had  fun for a lot of the tunes were not in my "zone", furthermore I was pleasantly surprised that I could handle those tricky beats.  As a whole journey, I, for one maybe, would soooo get it.. Give it a listen and if at times you find it twisted, persevere and push yourself. Then I had to find a monster track which would fit and I could tweak to blend in.. The Kevin Yos/Ben Watt Edit of EBTG Five Fathoms was just perfect.. Massive track but not overpowering "Welcome to My World" Petros Mitolis' production are selling on Traxsource. Follow this link and please support this very talented artist. Be Safe and Healthy wherever you are! 2013 New Year's Day Live Set (3 hours long beware before you on a mobile device and pay horrendous charges) Straight from the mixer, a 3 hour soulful, vocal and funky house extravaganza with all your favourites from 2012 and late 2011. It was sunny, on the early afternon of NYD, we were on our roof top, with a makeshift stand for the gear made out of an old plot printer from work, powered speakers just bought from the pawnbroker down the road and surrounded by close friends with whom we always try (rain or shine) to spend the first day of the year.. It had the feel of an original "House Party".. Above all, I wanted to avoid the disaster of last year, and I, therefore, selected the very, very top shelf of my vocal house (hand)bag House.. Nothing groundbreaking, all overground> This was not the time to be "clever"... The aim was to get my friends to come to me and say "oh I love this one", "this is one of my favourite", or "what is that? I love it".. well.. it might not have been underground and there were no edits nor acapellas, but I think I did achieve what I attempted.. We had a GREAT New's Day and this very simple, happy set made the Freemasons' one dimensional set later on very bearable.
