Happy Pill   I actually have a few more installments of the "Deep in China" session and the NYD set to upload and yet ended up publishing this little nugget. Two factors: on the one hand felt like something a bit lighter & happier as I was starting to accumulate new 2014 tunes on my HD and on the other (my fellow podcasters will understand) once a set is recorded and sits there for a few weeks, it needs to be pretty good to actually be dug up for publishing.. most of the times they stay on the drive because we (hope) the next one will be better.   Happy Pill.... A very vocal house set with happy tunes to bring a smile to our faces. I have lately been watching the news and I cannot say that the reports from the Ukraine, Syria and Venezuela are particularly cheerful.. Happy Pill time then.. If you do not like it, do not progress, your sad mood might lighten up, do not risk it.. Impeccable production.   “I Like 2 Party” from Samir Maslo and Oliver Cheathman..  It has that Disco atmosphere which comes from the rich production, the echoed vocal sample and is written in a key F#m which I think is perfect for House Music... Just lovely.   “Beautiful” from Hakan Kabil, multi-layered tune which might confront some, though I think it ticks all the right boxes and Majuri is a great vocalist.. Not a simple track at all..    “Need You Tonight”. With the biopic of INXS being currently shown on Australian TV, I thought it would be fun to use this immense remix from Scott Wozniak. It shows his immense talent as a remix/producer. The man can touch anything and enrich it.. Scott just crowd-sourced his first artist album, I simply cannot wait!   Another new take of an old classic, “Dreams” from Fleetwood Mac by no other than Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper.. I have always, will always love FK’s production. Rich, wide, smooth I am running out of  adjectives.. And if you want to feel the FK’s touch just scroll to 20:39:00 and bang one second after  that bass you hear coming, this IS FK signature right there.. I heard it too many times live not to recognize it, it just pumps precisely when the tune needs it.. Without it the track would be perfect but lacking soul, lacking a heart beat.. The Bass line is the pulse. Enjoy!   "The OtherSide".. well it is a bridge track. I needed to change key and keep the wide production theme going, set being recorded live .. key and beat matched, it was enough for me.. Well… you got a House Diva. First time I notice Roz Brown as a vocalist.. She can sing!   My mash-up of Lars Behrenroth’s ( of Deeper Shades of House fame) “Madness Last Night”.. Many reasons to be happy there.. Deep in China The Xin Nian Kuai Le Session (新年快乐)   Taking the opportunity in the middle of my Deep in China Sessions to dedicate this one to my Chinese friends and wish them a Happy New Year!   Sticking to the Deep theme with a more progressive colour, although I did include a couple of tracks the Deep purists might hang me for. I had to truncate the track to stay on the CD format yet I must confess that Danny Howells would be one of the first CD of Deep and Tech I ever bought. I owed him one..   “Boogie 2Nite” Boogie Luv vs Spiritchaser.”. Unfortunately I cannot credit anyone as I have lost the tags to the files.. And some purist might disapprove but I know good Deep House when I hear it and this mash-up is A-class!   C O O L one of  my favourite in this set. Progressive Deep Indie you choose but the production is masterful and the drums are delicate.   “Fading Nights” by Parra for Cuva.. Love this track, love all its remixes and Anna Naklab has a unique way to phrase her lyrics.. Immense production. Pure talent.   “Breathe” from Jonathan Meyer.. Had some tragedy in the set, the work on the synths is beautiful and again great production. The internal build of this track is classical in its structure.   “Chains” from Audiowhores. Deep with swag, what I really love. Audiowhores are on top of their game.   “Cause I Feel “ similar as the previous track with a simple vocal hook, equally as good.   Back to Audiowhores with “Facts” in my top five 2013 tracks regardless of genre. Everything is good, the keys, the bass the very simple percussions, and slamming vocals. THIS IS GOOD!   The Rhemi remix of “Let the Music Play” I know I have dropped it before but it is of the highest quality and the set needed some funk and lightness by this time.   Very happy to have found the Cube Boys Mash-Up of the” Cure and the Cause”. “The Cure & The Cause” is of my top ten house tracks of all time and this mash-up is amazing. DO NOT MISS, I added some beats and changed the key, the talent is all credit to the Cube Boys. Deep in China The Mengzhou Session.  ( 深藏在中國。在孟州會議 )   Second installment of Deep in China. I believe I am almost there to finally claim that I have mixed a true full Deep House set. The picture was taken in Mengzhou (a predomiantly muslim enclave) in Henan, China.. At least you will believe me when I write Deep in China. And yes I ate there and no I did not get sick.. at least not there.. No gimmicks, just a selection of five stars deep tracks, which for all but one, I liked and was eager to see how they would blend.   Playlist:   2013 The Deejay's An Alien (Money House Club Remix). It is the epitome of Deep Dope.. “This Life” continuing the same thread, within a strict key range and Roland Clark to guide us. A final note on the synths.. just perfect.  “Liar” from Bourne, bass line rules in this track, with again intricate soft pads resonating throughout. Great vocalist making it one of the track of the set. Ilias Katelanos on remix duties lifting this track to Deep heaven. “Back Home”. I love the undercurrent of funk and arguably very happy of how both tracks meshed together.. All about the bass and and simple chords.. Again! “Run” from Maneken,, I have used it recently, Deep and Progressive with 80’s vocals hooks throughout.. Immaculate production. “I Go Back” from Harry Romero.. Track was in the Deep folder for a while and at least I am still on cue real deepness with this one. “Feed Me” from Scrub and Wahnon on the darker side of Deep.  Somehow this style talks to me more when I am on the decks than pure deep house, which I may like to listen to but which I have great trouble to stick to. Give it a fair listen it is very good, very polished. “Inside My Love” from Magic Eye.. THE ABSOLUTE GEM OF THE SET!! DO NOT MISS! I will let you discover what’s Inside this Love J, you will regognize it. I will not spill the beans because if you are lazy enough not to listen to the full track, you have not earned the goodies  “inside my love”… Immense production. “Out of Reach” from Jody Wisternoff. I took me a while to like this track, one of the reason being that I do not think the voice of Mendelsohn is used at its full potential.. But the more remixes I hear, the more I get int... And Deep/Progressive it is! “Good Bye” from Das Nolas. By that time the set was well under way . I knew I had (for once) been able to keep it as deep as it ought to be..  I was slowly but surely giving it a more progressive tone and it felt right. Great remix of Audiowhores! “Octavia” from “Full Intention”. Stepping up the mix towards the end.. If I were listening to it, my feet would be itching to move by now.. “Breakin' Of The Dawn 2013”. Deep In China (The Luoyang Session)  洛阳 I have been trying to put together some genuine deeper sets for a while. I never fully succeeded to the extend that some would propose that I simply can’t, for I love vocals and sugary melodies far too much to let go and really dig deeper.. Well... whilst travelling "Deep" in China, I had the time to attempt to reach the Great Deepnes :). Using the hotel room sound system as Main output, I came out with 6 deeper sets.. I am still unconvinced of the overall result but here is the first one, between 117 and 120 bpm.. for better or for worse. I may not succeed at the first attempt but I hope that one of the 6 will hit the spot.. Besides I buy far too many deep tracks to let them die in the confines of my hard drive. The set is kept within traditional Deep keys with minimal edges and very current tracks. You will be the judges..   Playlist:   2013 Restless For You (Boogie Rapture Spring Fling). I love the D sharp key used in countless classical pieces to induce “feelings of the anxiety of the soul's deepest distress, of brooding despair, of blackest depression, of the most gloomy condition of the soul”..  It is I believe one of the best key to use for Deep House. “Just the Way “… simple tune based on 3 piano chords, one vocal hook and great ambient production. “Love Sensation” stay in the minor keys, add some beats and a different vocal hook and we have another serene tune. This is what deep House is: building slowly on very simple premises. “For The Sake Of Love” from Midiman, similar groove, still in minor key  keep up with the soothing atmosphere of the set. “Another Lie” from Dada Deep, change of keys and a bit of progressive edge to the Deepness. One of my favourite track of the set. “Beautiful” from Hakan Kabil. Perfectly production, layered with synths and filters and everything Hakan could build on.. Enjoy.. “Can You Hear the Beat” Kyodai revelation of 2013 for me with Spiritchaser doing what they do best.. pure dopeness.. Do not let the simple architecture of the track fool you, it has a lot of in-built swag,. “I’m in Love with You” from Samir Maslo. I have noticed that I have  recently bought most of his releases.. Another inspired producer.. This is deep with an undercurrent of Funk and Disco in the keyboard and the guitar. Very clever. “Ich Lass Dich Nicht Zuruck” from the Peacemaker Project.. I will return to this track and open a set with another remix.. Amazing, layered, inspired… I am running out of qualificatives.. DO NOT MISS! Another BIG BIG bassline, this is sexy soulful house as I would LOVE to hear in a club and I ( modestly) think the paring with Sender was an inspired fluke. "Sender" from Paco.. whatever this is.. Progressive, Deep, Indie.. I do not care! it is SO GOOD! Great production, great wide atmosphere.. Double dose of "The Pressure" with Beverley Knight as the ever amazing vocalist.. Progressive, sexy, soulful.. I guess I needed "release" as well after looking at the never ending tropical rain for 6 hours :) "All About That Love" I love Roland Clark, and will always do. Most of you know that already. It was time in the set to go a bit deeper and once agian Roland served it up. Because " it is all about that rhythm, all about that love".. "Deep Down the Underground" there are a few deep tech house tracks I love and this is the perfect example of what someone like Mike Dunn can do.. creating new sound, creating new beats.. Long life to those artists! By now I felt like bringing a bit of sugar and "Balearica" was the obvious tune to drop.. Almost Spring...but not quite! (12C in Melbourne today)   Indeed, Downunder where I am, it is almost Spring, yet we are absolutely freezing our proverbial t#itts off! With this in mind, here is an unpretentious little disco/funky/beach number blending new takes on old favourites and current funky releases. Since I suffered a total meltdown of my music database, I am in full rebuilding mode and will for a few weeks(I Hope) only access my most recent purchases, the rest being buried deep in the back-ups I thankfully did. After a few very satisfactory and well received progressive sets, I am going back to soulful for a few uploads. To a certain extent a “cleansing” move, though the current offering in soulful still leaves me wanting. I had very few choices having to deal with the corrupted library and still learning to tame the new Traktor S2. Got lazy in some transitions and took a minute and a half to beat match a recalcitrant downbeat in the last track hence the fact that you get the loop for that long.  I could have cut and edited it but to keep the live feel I chose not to and anyhow this was not an upload I wanted perfect. Love it! "Riders on The Storms" got to love a classic.. I knew I had chosen right when my wife first whinged hearing the intro and then told me .. " wow that's a cool remix".. To top it a yound Catalan to whom I had given a take to listen to asked me for the track.. Cleverly done, again great massive bassline and just two chords recalling the melody throughout the track.. I do not know Peter Oaks ( got it from Soundcloud) but he is one talented man. "Give Me the Night" DJ Meme's take on the George Benson classic.. Me like ;).. Ever since I heard Meme given a lesson to Dimitri on how to play to/with the crownd in melbourne a few years ago, I have the outmost respect. His trademark funky/happy rich production is there. The original is enhanced, revisited but not lost.. "So Tight" from DJ Fudge & Kiko Navarro, the very same comments than the ones for the frist track "Come On" apply.. Somehow even a more simple production, a piano lick, a voice sample, a clever bassline, a filter here and there and here we go, we have a a great tune.. A lesson in simple but effective production.. from Fudge and Navarro.. Young talent listen and learn ;).. Oh.. I almost forgot, Xtian had to edit it with the Phuture Akabu's sample.. He just had to.. Out of the Darkness, Into the Light Do not be fooled by the slow start, it does get a bit of oomph as we proceed. Thanks to Hayden for helping me finishing it. I was stuck in Tranceland and did to have the guts to either upload it or take another direction. I opted for the latter, for better or worse but at least I moved on! Continuing the Deep & Progressive vibe of the previous sets. I originally went into Trance, only to abort after hearing the end result. Did not have the fortitude to upload as it had dropped, sat on it for almost a month until I decide to tame it down. The end is a bit lazy, by that time I was over it. Originally included for my kids but truth be told commercial as it may be I love it.. Moderately happy with what I did with the trancy “Crockett’s Theme” from Michael Cassette of A&B fame. Could not resist using Tell Me Why (to the great dismay of my wife) to introduce the mash-up of Titanium.. Had to learn how to change keys of a sample for that one, which meant going back to music theory after my ten year old look at me with blank eyes when I asked “How many semitones between this key and that key?”.. Working it out and getting it semi-right which was the highlight of the month for me.. Love “Blue Coast” nice little indie number where I have first  used the re ix deck of my new toy ( New Tratktor S2). “Ordinary People” and the double “Nocturnal Dusk” and “Nocturnal Dawn” were last minute addition when I scrapped the trancy end.. Please check out the production of those, it is close to perfection.. The layering and mastering in both tunes is as good as you will ever hear. Lining up a XXX rated sexy set for which I need to spare one night session as I want to do it in one take to stick to the filthy vibe. Furthermore waiting for a remix package to drop on Traxsource on the 8/11 to hopefully headline the set. In the meantime, I most probably will toy around with a beachy, soulful number. Out of the Darkness, Into the Light Do not be fooled by the slow start, it does get a bit of oomph as we proceed. Thanks to Hayden for helping me finishing it. I was stuck in Tranceland and did to have the guts to either upload it or take another direction. I opted for the latter, for better or worse but at least I moved on! Continuing the Deep & Progressive vibe of the previous sets. I originally went into Trance, only to abort after hearing the end result. Did not have the fortitude to upload as it had dropped, sat on it for almost a month until I decide to tame it down. The end is a bit lazy, by that time I was over it.
