House is a Journey

Deep Sessions I (120 bpm)   The seven episodes of Deep Sessions should really be called Fifty Shades of Deep. It would have been a better title and a true depsiction of what those sessions are about. Yet I did not want to make an event of 7 concomitant uploads and felt like being a bit clinical. I want to keep the blurb to a minimum and let the deepnest talk Embarking in a avalanche of Deep House uploads. I buy a lot of Deep House tunes, yet upload very few true Deep House sets. Though I believe Deep House is where I find the most consistent Talent and great quality tunes, being a slut for vocals and pretty tunes, I tend to shy away from publishing any Deep House mixes. Willingly or not, I always fall into the trap of including soulful tracks when I try to go deep. Let’s hope that by the time I am done with Deep House Sessions, I will have published something which is true to the genre. Final word, I really tried thoughout the session to showcase great artists I never uploaded before.. For the ones I know and are not featured this time ( thinking of you Petros), please accept my absolute apologies. "House Music" from Harley & Muscle is the standout of the set for me. This is Deep House at its very best! Another Migs tunes with "Let the Music Play", which really summarize the attitude one shoud have with deep House.. Just let it roll, make yourself available to the music. With "Moving in You" from Dan Cano, we are without doubt listening to true deep house. This is subtle and perfectly produced. The 2 Karol XVII & MB Valence's jams are a bit challenging but again this is what deep House is as well.. Done, now to the next one. Xtian

  Trance Mission Episode 4 (Still with me?)   The fundamental question is: Are you Still with Me?   Apologies to all but I took a little break..   A few lines to frame the context:   I have had the set on my HD for now 4 months. I actually mixed it the day of the Charlie Hebdo massacre, hence the intro and then I kept it and kept it and .. kept it.   I had received a few pointedly true comments relating to the previous set, which, decent as it was, did contain a few too many poppy tracks. I may ( well I did...) have overdone the Sophie Ellis Bextor segment.. What can I say, I am just a weak old middle-aged straight man.. Not an excuse, just a statement.   Anyhow, I thought I would wait until Trance Mission Episode 4 was the best I could produce. Not inferring it is perfect ny now but the version I am publishing ticks all the boxes, covers all the criteria I had set for myself.   It is not just Trance, but House, Chill, Progressive, Tribal, Deep  and also Trance.. It is what I call Trouse and is the genre I would love the most if it ever existed!   Let’s set the scene. At the start imagine yourself about 30 minutes from sunset, it’s hot, you are on the beach somewhere and are listenning to Tribal beats. From there let the music wave guide you, take control of your body. Feel the beat, feel the wave and let yourselves GO!   The sun will set and it will be time for the party to get on its way. Love it!!   But perhaps because of the Tribal beat and the haunting melody, my absolute fav is “Now” from King Britt.. Trance-Mission Episode 03 (Ride the Wave)   All sine waves are characterized by their frequency, amplitude and phase.. Let's alter all those parameters...   Continuing my Trance-Mission. Last episode left us just “As the Rush Came”, this one is all about riding that metaphorical and physical sine wave.. Come and Ride it with Me..   Waves are all around us, light waves, sound waves, sub-atomic quantum waves and also liquid waves of course. There are no real difference in the physics of the surfing wave,the sound wave and the chemical wave, they are all encompassing..   One cannot fight the wave, one has to accept the highs, the lows, surrender to the overwhelming phenomena or emotion. Fight it and you fall into the abyss, ride it and you come back on top ready for the next one..   Although we are in Tranceland, I tried to keep it in my beloved Trouse.. If I did my selection right, at the end of this journey, you will have discovered some great tunes, be surprised by some edgier, harder ones, recognized some old club favourites, taken from one track you love to one you are not sure of, but you will have ridden that Wave and landed with a satisfactory smile on the other side of the tunnel..   At least this was my intent!     Current tunes or 2014 remixes of tracks you know very well. Bobby’s Birthday (The Sexy Classics Session)   Beware Not for Children.. Explicit.. but if you do not know the Kim Cooper’s gem DO NOT SHY AWAY!   I had some surgery done on my elbow and arm and was out for a few weeks. I eventually came back to check how my last podcast went and … lo and behold realized it had 11K+ downloads!   I must say, I am every happy about it! Take Me to a Higher Ground…   !!!! Warning: some expletives and drug references !!!   Set could have been called “15 Shades of House” or “What is House without Big Piano Keys?” But I thought I shouldn’t pass on the opportunity to give Blonde and Grant Nelson a some exposure..   14 good tracks … 13 from the last quarter of 2014.. Proud of that!   In the past few months, I have been utterly bored with Soulful and, to a certain extent, with with any non-progressive house. "Take Me to a Higher Ground" reunites me with the genre..   What changed my mind?   -  Mixing it up between true soulful gems and edgier tunes with some rasp built-in gave depth and colours to my set.   - Inviting House royalty to the party did help! Grant Nelson, Richard Earnshaw, Sandy Rivera, Kings of Tomorrow, Spiritchaser, Eric Kupper and Miguel Migs.. Need I say more?   - Finally finding great, very recent tracks! “Higher Ground”, “Need 2 Know”, “Bang, Bang” and “Special”… The latter 3 released in the last fortnight and all of them in my 2014 House top five..   The pleasure to discover new tracks, associated to the relief of not having to include old ones, rekindled my interest.   There you have it.. Earnshaw is one of the top five house producers and never, never disappoints. As to the vocalist, Cassandra London, absolute respect. Production is immaculate.   “Bang, Bang”: Sandy Rivera, April and the KOT outfit.. Sandy and April, not sure who is the muse of the other, but very much like the previous track, this tune is intricate and goes way beyond the melody line.. Spring has Sprung Pt.3 (Vintage Trance for Vintage Ravers)   Third and last part.. It got a bit more interesting from there on..   A bit of context.. For a few years, our crew has been yearning for some good old uplifting Trance.. Back to the 90’s.. I was quite apprehensive about it, not being sure that we ,still, actually could handle any sustained trance.   I did learn a few things whilst mixing the set and I will come back to that later, but I am happy to report that I was proven wrong., Trance can work if appropriately tailored to the crowd.   Straight out of the mixer with all the imperfections of live mixing.. I learned a valuable lesson for the next time I play Trance: A) Maximum length of set should be 1h30 B) Unless the track is an ABSOLUTE ANTHEM  (and there are max 10 of these all around) no track should be more than 4/5 minutes, therefore only radio edits to be used in the future. C) Attention span of the punters is 2 minutes if nothing change ( levels etc...).   I will be back with an original mix within a fortnight..   To our friends..
