Between the Slides

Summary: "Between the Slides" is the moment students and instructors share to have real talk, not just focus on slide content. It is the moment project sponsors, teammates and project managers pause to have productive conversations and make decisions. Selfishly, this podcast started as a way for me to share my all-hazards incident management experience and to continue teaching from the comfort of my home. Thank you for choosing this program. **COMING SOON** - The 'People, Process, Progress' podcast that will spotlight people coming together to work a process together and how doing so can lead to progress for us all. Godspeed to you all on your personal and professional journeys, Kevin Kevin Pannell, PMP, PSC3, NREMT Creator and Host, Between the Slides podcast Facebook: Between the Slides Twitter & Instagram: pannellkg Website: www.betweentheslidescom

PROGRESS: Vital Importance of Contingency Planning | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:36:52

“Another way to be prepared is to think negatively. Yes, I'm a great optimist. but, when trying to make a decision, I often think of the worst case scenario. I call it 'the eaten by wolves factor.' If I do something, what's the most terrible thing that could happen? Would I be eaten by wolves? One thing that makes it possible to be an optimist, is if you have a contingency plan for when all hell breaks loose. There are a lot of things I don't worry about, because I have a plan in place if they do.” ― Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture Professor Pausch's words reflect the mindset every special event planning, particularly Public Safety and Incident Management Team (IMT) professionals should embrace.  If you or your team are not thinking, "...and then what?" and working a contingency planning process then you are putting your people at risk.  In this episode I share a way to reduce that rusk and better coordinate the contingency planning process. Between the Slides "5" Considerations: * Work contingency scenarios like tactics meetings * Always be thinking, "...and then what?" * Know the key elements of each scenario's plan * Avoid a rush to the scene by the "white wave" * Personnel Accountability Report (PAR) check, PAR check, PAR check your people Key Time Stamps: * 00:02:43 - The "...and then what?" mindset * 00:08:04 - Share your job knowledge two levels up and two levels down * 00:17:14 - It's you, your partners and then the pubic * 00:26:19 - It's never gonna work like the checklist or the book * 00:32:47 - Recurring theme, the PAR check Be on Between the Slides by clicking here (https://betweentheslides.com/be-on-the-podcast/) and sharing a topic you'd like to discuss.  ICS/IMT: Being an Effective Documentation Unit Leader (DOCL) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:29:38

"If it isn't documented, it didn't happen" - Every medical care trainer The Documentation Unit is a big job. It is not as action oriented as the Resource or Situation Units, but in the day and age of civil unrest and lawsuits all over, having a strong record of incident response or special event planning documentation is critical. Key Time Stamps: * 00:02:35 - When can you be signed off for what? * 00:07:10 - Pan for electronic and hard copy files systems * 00:15:30 - How will you mass produce the incident action plan (IAP)? * 00:17:20 - Importance of the ICS 211s, 213s, 214s, and 221s * 00:25:43 - Guard the fancy copies of the IAP   Be on Between the Slides by clicking here (https://betweentheslides.com/be-on-the-podcast/) and sharing a topic you'd like to discuss.   Thank you all for listening and Godspeed, Kevin   Kevin Pannell, PMP | www.betweentheslides.com | Instagram & Twitter: pannellkg | Facebook: Betweentheslides | Email: kp.bts.podcast@gmail.com   #incidentcommand #incidentcomplex #catastrophy #publichealth #publicsafety #FEMA #USFA #NWCG #USCG #PEMA #Documentation #SpecialEvents #ICS

 Why Should I Get A Colonoscopy? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:18:33

Cancer sucks.  Even after 10 years cancer free this disease is still in my head with every little ache, pain and bump I feel.  Fortunately we have good screening mechanisms for many cancer types, including rectal and colorectal cancers. In this episode I share some tips on preparing for one of those screening tools, the colonoscopy. "Between the Slides 5" for this episode: * Consult your Primary Care Physician, or find one * Plan ahead for the week of the procedure * Preparation day is horrible * Dress warm the day of and chill * Rest the evening after and the next day   In this episode is helpful to anyone considering or already scheduled for a colonoscopy. Find it before it finds you.   More resources at https://fightcolorectalcancer.org/prevent/about-colorectal-cancer/ and on the "We Have Cancer" podcast with Lee Silverstein (https:/https://wehavecancershow.com/).  Thursday Thought for 19SEP2019: ADKAR for Projects and Incident Management Teams | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:15:05

I recently completed the Prosci Change Management Certification Program. I learned a lot and found instant value.  One key component of this course and effective change management is the Awareness Desire Knowledge Ability Reinforcement (ADKAR).  Hopefully I've paid forward the knowledge I was able to gain from this course and provided considerations for Project Managers and members of All-Hazards Incident Management Teams (IMTs).
