Between the Slides show

Between the Slides

Summary: "Between the Slides" is the moment students and instructors share to have real talk, not just focus on slide content. It is the moment project sponsors, teammates and project managers pause to have productive conversations and make decisions. Selfishly, this podcast started as a way for me to share my all-hazards incident management experience and to continue teaching from the comfort of my home. Thank you for choosing this program. **COMING SOON** - The 'People, Process, Progress' podcast that will spotlight people coming together to work a process together and how doing so can lead to progress for us all. Godspeed to you all on your personal and professional journeys, Kevin Kevin Pannell, PMP, PSC3, NREMT Creator and Host, Between the Slides podcast Facebook: Between the Slides Twitter & Instagram: pannellkg Website: www.betweentheslidescom

Air Operations and Drone Deployments with Lieutenant Mike Phibbs | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:34:36

The use of drones by Public Safety has increased dramatically over the past five years or so. While these little flying surveillance tools provide great value, they also create concern among the public. In this episode I speak with Police Lieutenant Mike Phibbs on how he worked his way up to a credentialed Operations Section Chief, Air Operations Branch Director and how he helped stand up one of the most robust drone programs in the Central Virginia Area. Key Time Stamps: * 00:15:10 - Implementing the Operational Planning Worksheet (ICS-215) * 00:36:15 – The reality of shadowing as an IMT Trainee * 00:54:15 – Legality of deploying drones * 01:15:30 – Creating the Metro-Richmond Public Safety Leadership Academy (MRPSLA) Contact Lt. Mike Phibbs through the "Be RPD" program at www.BeRPDRVA.com or through the MRPSLA website at  www.2017mrpsla.wordpress.com As always thank you all for listening, learning and sharing with others.  From Real Estate to Real Change with Ben Rogers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:14:15

In this episode I have a great conversation with Ben Rogers. Ben and I met when he first pitched himself to be our Realtor.  It worked. Ben is a very organized and driven person and extremely effective Real Estate Agent. Full disclosure, Ben and I had a "Did we just become best friends!" moment early on when we both realized we "Got After It" as a result of influence from the great works by Jocko Willink. If you haven't listened to Jocko Podcast or read his books. Do it now. As you will hear, there is much more to Ben's story than selling houses. Ben grew up in Hanover County, Virginia, played college football, survived a house fire and now leads a successful team as part of the Rogers-Long Team: Powered by Hometown Realty.  Ben is also a "coach of coaches" and during this episode he'll share how coaching helps him personally and professionally and how he's now able to pay that forward coaching others with The Bottom Line Coaching Company. Key time Stamps: * 00:12:15 - "Attitude is everything. Pick a good one." * 00:16:55 - Where "Up before the fire" came from * 00:24:45 - Losing more than 50 pounds * 00:45:15 - The background of Motivational Mondays with the Rogers-Long Team * 01:01:15 - Helping leaders and teams organize with The Bottom Line Coaching Company Ben Rogers' contact information: Office: 804.249.2809 | Cell: 804.512.0438 | Email: brogers@gohtr.com As always thank you all for listening, learning and sharing with others.  From Suicidal to Saving Others with Ben Gomes | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:21:25

In 2017 Police Officers, Firefighters and/or EMS workers were more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty.  This data from the Ruderman White Paper on Mental Health and Suicide of First Responders (April 2018) is alarming and heartbreaking. First responders, meaning Police, Fire, EMS and 911 Communicators, are exposed to horrible experiences on a daily basis. Sometimes many times in one day.  In this episode we talk to Ben Gomes. Ben was an experienced 911 Communicator and is now professional Firefighter.  Ben talks about how he faced his own demons and darkness related to suicide and how we now helps others as part of the Virginia First Responders Support Services (VFRSS). *Resources: * Contact Ben Gomes directly on Instagram @dontcallmeradio via email at Gomes.benjamin.p@gmail.com (mailto:Gomes.benjamin.p@gmail.com)or call or text Ben at 1.804.432.7901 * Virginia First Responder Support Services (VFRSS) * Main site at https://www.vfrss.org/ * Request help at https://www.vfrss.org/request-support * Executive Director Gene Thompson at 1.540.755.0208 * Email training inquiries:VFRSSDirector@gmail.com * National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1.800.273.8255 * Safe Call Now – 1.206.459.3020 * Fire/EMS Helpline – 1.888.731.3473 Key time stamps: * 00:06:13 - Becoming a 911 Communicator * 00:15:04 - Tragedy hits close to home * 00:21:52 - Plotting his own suicide * 00:43:07 - Increased call volumes and First Responder mental health * 01:02:40 - Managing the fear of telling others * 01:15:55 - Asking for help in your locality **If you are in public safety and need help please reach out to someone you know or one of the resources above.
