#107: Why I deleted social media and simplified life. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 33:33

On today's show So picture this... A big giant desk full of bunched up papered, crumpled up ideas of visions and plans. Cups of coffee everywhere, financial statements, books on how to learn shit, books on how to manage stuff. Computer wires, a red stapler (yes, blood red) mixed in between an old school calculator and about 15 broken lighting cables. Those iPhones man. There's a man sitting over this desk... Staring at it all in frustration because nothing is working, everything has become a complicated mess of unresolved issues and un-reachable dreams. All that's left is to wipe the slate clean. That's what today's episode is all about. Wiping the slate clean and simplifying it all. Todays Sponsor: Sweetwater and this month it's drum month. Here's why that kicks ass... * Sweetwater is giving away a Sparkling DW kit with tons of upgrades! * It's going on 7/1/19-7/31-19 * Click this link to apply: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PSK422GS--dw-performance-series-4-piece-shell-pack-with-22-inch-bass-drum-gold-sparkle-finishply * They are giving away a ton of good shit so go to their social accounts and get hooked up. What's been going on? * Ducat Baby #2 is on the way * I've been building my business VR marketing and it's going great! * I've simplified and eradicated all the clutter from my life... Now it's all about my agency and my family Today's show topic: Simplifying and why I deleted all the social media apps from my phone. Here's what we talked about * Why I made the decision. * What I focused on. * The outcome. * What I'm doing to transition back. My 3 tips on how you can take steps similar to this * Delete all the social media apps and games from your phone or put them in folders that take FOREVER TO FIND. * Develop a daily routine around productivity and focus it around your biggest goals. * Set some serious goals for yourself. * tell yourself a number you want in your bank account * tell yourself a place you want to be as a musician in 1 month, 6 months, 1 year. * Spell out the type of life you want for yourself. Is that full-time musician? Will this provide the income you want? If not, what do you need to do to be in a place that provides you great income and the freedom you want to do whatever it is you want to do. In this case… since we're all drummers here I am going to assume its drums lol. The Big Takeaway Overall you have to see the flaws in your activities. If your social media account isn’t giving you a monetary return it’s probably only doing one thing… Taking your time and focus away. One last tip: If you’re addicted to your smartphone like me then Youtube can be your best friend but be cautious. I use it strictly to keep up with my skills sets. If I’m learning, I'm working on my ability to potentially earn. That’s it for today's show. Talk to you next week Richard Ducat DIL SOCIAL LINKS: Drummers I Like on Instagram

#106: Wyatt Stav - Flipping the Script on Pro Drumming | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:23:19

Welcome back to another episode of the podcast! Today we have the pleasure of chatting with Wyatt Stav!  Wyatt is an up and coming Drummer who has made quite the platform for himself on YouTube and Patreon. Wyatt is chock full of expertise and one of the reasons I wanted to bring him on was to chat YouTube and my current infatuation with the platforms ability to be monetized. This is paramount for drummers of today’s as channels become more saturated and gigs start to dry up for the high paid guys. It’s now leaving a giant gap for drummers with the power to teach and entertain the guys like me who suck up hours of YT content daily! Here’s what we chatted about today: * Wyatt’s upbringing and his parents genius idea to pay an allowance for every book he read * Wyatt’s struggle and journey towards finding a home on YouTube * The process behind his videos and how he records his audio * Life in general because Wyatt is a super bright bulb full of positive energy. This is partially why we chatted for 2 plus hours and have been texting ever since. Wyatt is a viber FOR sure! Here’s how you can find Wyatt.  Why Drumeo's Best Beginner Drum Book is Perfect for All Drummers | Ep. #105 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 24:54

What's up Drumtrepreneurs! We are back with a fresh episode of the Drummers I Like Podcast and yes... We're full video now so if you're watching on the site.. Thank you! Today on the show we are talking about the 7 reasons the Best Beginner Drum Book by Drumeo is perfect for any and all drummers. Let's get started. 1. It teaches you how to set up your drums. The drum setup system: I own electronic and acoustic and without formal education, I always had a hard time setting them up. This has taken a lot of time in the past and with chapter 1 the first thing I found myself doing was taking apart my entire drum kit and setting it back up... 10 times now. The big thing this first chapter did for me really taught me that it’s ok to take your kit apart and change things up.. in fact, it makes you better. 2. It thoroughly breaks down technique. Chapter 3: hand technique uncovered. As Someone who just started diving deep into JoJo Meyers secret weapons for modern drummers, I can tell you that this section was paramount for me. I really enjoyed being able to look at them all side by side in an easy format like in the book. It really helped me define the simple nuances between American and German. I do wish they broke down traditional a little bit more. 3. It truly helps you understand reading music. Chapter 4: Note values made easy: this was a no brainer and between you and I the first chapter I skipped to.. this is absolutely one of weakest playing points and where I find my self the most when using the BBDB. I really like the notation legend. I’m the type of person that needs to learn from pretty much all angles before I get the big picture. Seeing it, hearing it, and having someone break down the subtle nuances of theory. This section does so well for me across the board from the simple break down of each note value to the easy to follow practice regimens. It’s good shit. I really feel like they hit this section out of the park and I look forward to my extended approach to this area of my playing. 4. It cuts through the clutter with rudiments. Chapter 5: The rudimental breakdown: this may very well have been one of the most important sections for me. due to spending ten plus years not know what any of these things meant it was like heaven being given a simple process of understanding. I think the best part is the simplification. They really stuck to the core essential 5 rather than trying to shove 40+ down your throat and in my opinion these are the ones that help you hit the ground running. I really like how they matched all the teachings with practice regimens that are easy to follow. Damn, I need that p4 pad... 5. It actually breaks down how to apply techniques in an easy to digest manner. Chapter 7: The technique selector: I feel like no one talks about this stuff and being the type of person that loves purpose and intent I found myself drooling over this section. Something I never really understood was cross sticking.. this really helped me dig into the depths of its purpose behind the kit. I think the coolest part was the recommended listening section.. really really sweet way to end the section with direct examples of players using it in specific settings. 6. It defines different styles of music like magic. Chapter 9: Musical styles - the stylistic method was really the icing on the cake for me. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve naively mistaken styles of music for others making my self look stupid in a circle of my musical peers.. this section really clarified a lot for me and helped me understand different styles, where they came from, when they’re used, and how to approach them. This section was paramount. 7. It helps you get better at drums. This one is straight to the point. This book combines all three of the most important aspects of Learning.

Julez is an upcoming drummer from New Jersey who is making waves on Social Media with her unique personality and insanely talented spin on some of the most popular tracks around. On today's show, we spent a lot of time getting to know Julez and something that stood out to me was her genuine approach to it all.  #101: Scott Pellegrom – Modern Day Renaissance man | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:27:26

YES! Scotty P is here to lay down the law of living the good life and letting go of the stressful tension that often binds us to this sometimes depressing and over-embellished world. I walked away from this chat feeling a sense of happiness that one feels during a definite paradigm shift. It had me wanting to explore nature more, put my phone in a different room, cut down on the social media & start focusing on the reality that is life. We all seem to get caught up in the internet of things, but Scotty reminded me how quickly we all become addicted and how hard but necessary breaking away can sometimes seem to be. Listing out all of Scott's achievements would take up fifteen paragraphs so if you're looking for the life story tune into the cast because with this new format and solo approach to hosting I find myself leaning my show in a direction I never assumed I would even consider. No clear show laws just like the open sea. It feels good, and it feels right. A BIG BIG BIG SHOUT OUT TO SCOTT for blessing me with his time. I feel honored. Until next week!  #100: Dom Famularo – A lifetime of empowerment | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:15:12

What is up Drumtrepreneurs!!! Today we are honored to have with us the most special of special guests! Dom Fomularo! Dom is a world renown artist and percussionist who has spanned the globe educating the masses on everything from the fundamentals of playing to the process of getting yourself out of a mental funk! I should also mention that he is absolutely one of the greatest minds I have ever spoken to and this episode was something of a journey as Dom’s story and view on life struck multiple chords with me. It’s not very often that I don’t connect with someone with as much time and experience on this Earth as Dom, but this time was different. It felt more like therapy session in the end as I was left with a lot of self-reflection and internal thoughts that have since not left the vessel that is my brain. Dom is next level and he serves as a pure reminder to all drummers that we have a lot of time on this earth and how you spend it truly matters, how you treat others truly matters, and how you guide others REALY matters more than anything. It really took me a long time to get the ball rolling on releasing this episode and although its been close too two months since we produced this show I could still feel the vibe... Especially during my listen back to it all.. For many of you that have been listening for the past 3 years it must have been odd for me to just drop everything after so many months of pushing things like the battle plan, webinars on self-productivity, and of course the amazing lessons on drums and business both Scott and I were putting out every week. All I can tell you is that I hit a wall and the only way for me to have mustered up the energy and efforts to keep going forward ( after sinking thousands into this project ) was to take a long hiatus. To many of you, this might seem somewhat hypocritical as I tend to be someone who shouts obscenities at anything resembling “giving up” lol but I can tell you that it has allowed me to center myself, get a hang on what I really needed to do AND get my process better dialed in... There were weeks where I was spending so much time prepping shows and content that I left many of my own clients hanging and even more importantly I was leaving my family hanging. But don’t worry... Now that we’re balanced. We’re back and we have a lot planned, prepped, and ready for release!  #98: Taylor Gordon - From disciplined student to the Pocket Queen | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:05:32

"When you miss a shot on the basketball court that ball is gonna hit the ground and start rolling no matter what... It's up to you to pick that ball up and make the next shot because if you don't someone will"  Today we have the pleasure of chatting with the Pocket Queen herself Taylor Gordon! This show was an honor for us and absolutely a conversation that I will never forget as Taylor broke down her life story along with an onslaught of life-altering moments and obsessive habits that inevitably put her behind the likes of artists like Beyonce, Fifth Harmony, Stevie Wonder, Daya, and more! This conversation really meshed with the culture we are trying to create within the Drummers I Like Community as Taylor continually pointed out the moments of self-evaluation that would cause her to pivot her career motivations and decisions as she dove into both the percussion and production world looking for her niche and fit. As I broke down the barriers of Taylor's world I think it was her clear-mindedness that stood out the most to me as making a decision that alters your life seemed to come naturally for her. This is not the case for most of us as we all tend to set our targets pretty low ready to take the first chance at success we can get. For Taylor, this just wasn't the case and absolutely not the outcome she had in mind for herself as she made bold moves like walking about from a high-level record production contract or turning down gigs that some of us would dream to get in the determination of getting to the level she considered "successful". Taylors humble approach to this whole thing was probably the absolute most inspiring part of our conversation as she continually pointed out (non chalantly) how much she gives back to her community by keeping them involved, staying in touch, and offering opportunities to grasp the genius that is her mind via her Patreon page and free IG feed! Key Points:  * Taylor tells the tale of her earlier years breaking down some of the key moments in her life that led up to where she is today. * After a swift move to Los Angeles, Taylor breaks down the in's and out's of building her career along with some of the big decisions she had to make for both her pocket and her passions. * Taylor breaks down her drumkit, her favorite gear, the tech behind her amazing social media stream, and some of the cooler moments pertaining to some of the great artists she has toured/played with. In Closing: It's these type of people that inspire me to do what I do with Drummers I Like as the motivation that comes from hearing a story like Taylors will stick by my side for the rest of my life and find it's way into the type of content I continue to put together moving forward. Taylor goes above and beyond, does what others aren't willing to do, and always goes the extra mile with her actions and that's what makes her unique and absolutely what put's her at the top of her game and industry and the official Pocket Queen of Social Media...  #97 Bruce Becker: A Career Built On Habits | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:43:30

Today we have the pleasure of chatting with the legend himself Bruce Becker. If you know drum’s then you know Bruce Becker... An educational Guru that has been teaching for over 40 years with a client base of some of the most renown players of all time... One of most incredible aspects to Bruce’s Story is the many years he spent working closely with Freddie Gruber... Freddie is a pillar in the community of drummers spanning a career that measures up to the likes of Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. Bruce offered a special message to our listeners today and it was one that has traveled with me throughout the past week... As someone who pushes the idea of strategic planners and heavily laid out schedules it was nice to know that Bruce made plenty of time for going with the flow and letting the wave carry you at times...
