Daily Fill #85: Cristian Beaulieu CRUSHES defeat | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:12:10

Welcome to the Wednesday Morning Fuel edition of the Daily Fill! Every Wednesday Richard gets on the line with close friend and associate J.C. Clifford to chat everything from Business, life, the great outdoors, survival, drums and more! On today's show, we bring on close friend and the brains behind the Drumtac process Cristian Beaulieu. We cover a litany of situations regarding anxiety, depression, motivation, and the want to get up and go every day. Cristian is an absolute enigma and potentially a super genius that has added so much fuel to the fire for us today and I can't thank him enough for contributing his time this morning. TAKE NOTES DRUMMERS! This one is LONG! A few points we cover: * Self-doubt and overcoming your mind's expectations of itself. * The big risks you have to take in life when choosing to work for yourself. * Perspective change and why you need to see your failures as greatest success A big point Cristian made that had my jaw to the floor was when we got on the topic of business and how there is always someone else paying the check, making the business work. Cristian asks the simple question "Why can't I be the someone else" So I ask you that same question... Why can't you be that someone else? - Richard Please take the time to leave a review as it helps rank our show and get it out to more listeners like you!  Daily Fill #84: Superior Drummer Success | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 32:54

Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Daily Fill with our Owner and founder Richard Ducat! Every Tuesday Richard gives us a dose of motivation, guidance, life hacks, marketing tips, and more! On today's episode, we talk about a little bug that's been in my ear for the last 3 years. SUPERIOR DRUMMER         The infamous Superior Drummer has plagued me for years now and It's not the products fault. It's entirely mine. Where do we start? It all starts back in 2014 when I decided to pick up the Roland tdk11kv Electronic Drumset in preparation for the birth of my first Son Everett. I was extremely excited to get my kit and for weeks I waited for the delivery and I planned out my attack of drum covers and jams. The Big Issue: My kit finally arrived and I was SO stoked to get her setup and ready for jamming. After a ton of work and efforts to get it nice and comfy, I was ready for action. I set my seat up, got my aux cords, plugged my iPhone into the module, picked a track to play my drums too and grabbed the sticks. Upon my first hit, I was immediately thrown back with frustration as the snare sounded like a pair of dish pans smacking a tennis ball court. This kit sounded so fake and so computerized that I could barely get through the jam session. My only fix was to turn up the music mix, drown out the majority of the drum mix, and just feel it out. The Fix: Superior Drummer is my savior After years of frustration, I finally needed to find a fix for my drum module issue. I jumped on google and started researching mixing videos for the kit and although I was able to find a ton of information I still wasn't satisfied. As I scrolled down the youtube search engine and I came across this video. It wasn't the comparison of sounds that drove me to my conclusion of using Superior Drummer. It was the title that reminded me of the software my best friends used in college to write our album. I started to get so excited because I remembered the onslaught of drums, cymbals, and kits I could choose from. I just needed to get ahold of my best friend Tom so I could retrieve a copy of his license. This is one of the better parts of the Toon Track Software. It allows you to register it on up to 3 devices. This is perfect for say a group of producers looking to invest in their gear, a band that needs to come together for a tracking solution for their demoing process, or between a group of drummers like me that need to find a solution like the ones offered from toon track. Superior Drummer X Roland TD11KVS - The Truth will set you free: So over the next two years, I would come to rely on superior drummer for all my jamming and recording needs. The product's ease of use was so good that I was able to literally "plug in and play" my drums upon the first 5 minutes of my installation. This is probably the best part of the software as all it requires is a few simple audio accessories to get started. This was in my eyes becoming the best drum software on the market! ( next to EZ DRUMMER 2 ) My superior drummer setup for practicing and recording on my Roland TD11KV: * 2015 Macbook Pro 13" 16GB ram, 1TB hard drive price ($1500) *

Daily Fill #83: Drum Lessons: Levels of Musicianship | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 18:36

Welcome to the Monday edition of the Daily Fill with our lead educator Scott Jackson! Every Monday Scott drops into give us a quick drum lesson that we can apply to our playing right now! Let's get started... Over the next couple of weeks, I wanted to talk about a very subtle and introspective topic. And that topic is, objectively judging your technique and more importantly your Sound behind the drum set. This week we focus on the first Primary Class of a Musician the "Beginner Class" with in these class falls Level 1 and Level 2 of the Musicianship Let's break down the Beginner Class. The Beginners Class: This is someone who has zero experience behind the drum set. I would recommend you seek out beginner drum lessons from an in-person private instructor or an online drum lessons instructor to help you get started. This is truly exciting because you are finally taking your first step towards learning the instrument of your dreams! There are two levels in this class. Let's break them down! Level 1: 0-2 years of playing experience You have either zero or little knowledge of the drum set but you have started taking drum lessons or purchased a drum or drum set to begin your journey. You're a blank slate, and everything you learn is exciting because you realize what was once intimidating is actually a lot of FUN! You learn your first rudiments, how to read some basic rhythms, how to hold the sticks, the history of the drum set, and you learn your first set of grooves and beats! Level 2: 1-3 years of playing experience This is an exciting level because although you are still a beginner, the concepts that you have learned so far are starting to become controlled. You are able to play certain things at will, and those concepts aren't as challenging as before. Your brain can recognize the musical patterns faster, therefore, you are learning new exercises quicker and more efficiently. You're reading more rhythms, (maybe adding 8th notes) you learn about dynamics, (Loud versus Quiet) you learn the 4 main stroke types (full, down, tap, and up), and you're learning new styles such as Rock, RnB, hiphop, pop, and maybe a shuffle or some reggae. For a more detailed breakdown, I will be posting a PDF file with the last Podcast of this series that will available for download. Remember, Each stage will be different for everyone, and over the coming weeks I will outline each Level via my drum lessons page. The outline is not to tell you what you should be learning, but what you could be learning. Again, this is a very personal guide and each level will vary for each drummer. However, by the end of this series, you should be able to write down the skills you are working on and how skillfully you perform them to determine which Level you are in. This topic is extremely subtle, and sometimes can make you confront areas of your playing you haven't thought of before. So, just stay with me, and I guarantee you will have a new positive outlook on your Development as a drummer.  Daily Fill 81: Do you have good Habits? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 20:37

Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Daily Fill with our Owner and founder Richard Ducat! Every Tuesday Richard gives us a dose of motivation, guidance, life hacks, marketing tips, and more! On today's episode, we focus specifically on habits and what it takes to build a good set of strong progressive habits. This applies to playing and practicing drums, organizing your schedule, your business, your drum teaching schedule and more. I think I harp on this more than anything else but I am dead serious when I say you need to keep a daily journal that keeps track of at least your top 4 important tasks each day. Taking this regulated time every night prior to bed has been a staple in my previous 140 days of consistent daily progress. It also helps me keep a clear and concise ledger of what I am doing with my time which allows me to optimize and evaluate where I am the most successful. A few specific entrepreneurial and motivational habits that you Drummers and Go-getters can apply today: Start with a morning Regimen: I can't stress this one enough and it all starts with that first action being a 12oz glass of water which is one of the key habits of my morning success. I cram down loads of coffee each day but nothing regenerates and hydrates me like that first dousing of aqua. I suggest picking up to 9 specific actions that give you a productive and optimized morning allowing you to perform at your best all day. Pro tips: Leave out basic menial things like "walk the dog" or "feed pets". Instead, focus on healthy and thoughtful actions like stretching, yoga, drinking a healthy breakfast shake and drinking water! Track your tasks intensively: Just like I write up my morning regimen, I also write up my most important daily needs and delegate accordingly. This can be tough for the ones who want to cram as much as possible into each block but trust me... that doesn't work. I suggest you focus on tangible objectives that won't leave you feeling worn out or worse unfinished. Pro tips: Take things slow and don't overwork yourself with multiple hour long blocks. I typically do 45-60 minutes at a time with a forced break of 15-20 minutes 3-4 times a day. Consistently review yourself: This is probably the most important piece to my puzzle and an essential for growth. I do it weekly and sometimes even daily with an extremely aggressive approach. This allows me to continually search for the loose ends in my process allowing to me to tap my out productivity levels when it comes to my workload. I am always searching for a faster and more optimized way to complete important tasks and this is the force behind it. Pro tips: Keep a daily ledger of your completed and incomplete tasks so that you can review yourself. Keep track of important details that may have allowed or disallowed you to complete your daily tasks. These are just a few of the things I am doing every day to stay on top of my productivity and focus patterns and I promise they will help you. I suggest taking it slow and not pressuring yourself to obtain any orders to tall. Trust me... It took me at least 90 days to lock my morning regimen in and sometimes I still drag it out. No one is perfect... Except for Gary Vee and John Lee Dumas lol... That's it for todays episode of the daily fill! Want to add to the conversation? Leave a comment below and let us know what you are doing to supercharge your daily routines and keep up with important daily tasks and focus points!  Daily Fill #80: Drum Lessons with Scott – Private Lessons | File Type: audio/x-m4a | Duration: Unknown

And that is, objectively judging your technique and more importantly your Sound behind the drum set. This week we focus on determining when should you start taking private drum lessons again or for the first time. So when should you? Well, for me it's a very simple and honest question. Can I CHOOSE how I want to SOUND to fit the needs of the music? For instance, Rock music has a different sound required than if you were playing in a Samba troupe from Brazil. If not, then I should go find someone that can teach me. So when should you? Well, for me it's a very simple and honest question. Can I CHOOSE how I want to SOUND to fit the needs of the music? For instance, Rock music has a different sound required than if you were playing in a Samba troupe from Brazil. If not, then I should go find someone that can teach me. So let's break down the 3 Primary Learning Stages. 1. Beginners: Someone who has zero experience. You should definitely seek out a private instructor to help you get started. 2. Intermediate: Has been playing for awhile 3 years or even 20 years at times, but still lacks the technical skill to SOUND really good. 3. Advanced: Has been diligently Practicing and Studying for a long period of time possibly up to 10 years or longer. Their SOUND is under control and they have the technical facility to learn musical ideas quickly and is technically superior to the average drummer. Each stage has different needs, and over the coming weeks, we are going to breakdown the Subclasses for each Primary Learning Stage. This topic is extremely subtle, and sometimes can make you confront areas of your playing you haven't thought of before.
