Stick Twirl Gear Review Show – Drummers I Like Podcast | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:30

Hello fellow drummers! Thanks for joining us for our first podcast all about drum gear. On today's episode, we will be talking to Don Kulcsar and Matt Schallmo from Stick Twirl. Don, Matt, Rich and Kevin get right into the show with lots of topics that will really give you great insight into this new product. Drummers I Like has had a chance to play around with some of the 3-D printed prototypes so we have some questions and feedback that we think drummers would definitely want to have a clear understanding of. Most importantly, Don and Matt are really great musicians and people. So it was a pleasure to chat with them about their exciting product. Don Kulcsar is the owner/founder and Matt Schallmo is the V.P. of Marketing and P.R. for Stick Twirl. 2:00 - 3:35: Don starts things off by telling us a little about his history as a drummer and some of his early drumming projects in the South Florida area, then into how drums were put on hold while he raised two daughters. At a later stage in his life, he was re-introduced to drums through his church. He makes an important point that even if you have to put drumming down for a while the desire stays with us. 3:36 - 5:00: In this section, Don talks about where his idea for the product was born from. Don first thought of attaching perpendicular rings on a drumstick to aid him in learning the Moller technique. It was almost an afterthought to also be able to use the device for incorporating stick tricks. 5:00 - 6:30: Here everyone jokes a bit about some of the masters of our craft and how they make the drumstick seem as if it's an extension of their body. Don points out the fact that you can learn all the traditional stick tricks without a Stick Twirl. However, there are things that you just won't be able to do without their innovative product. Don also tells a cool story of how a bandmate's wife was mesmerized by how he was able to flip his drumstick while playing a gig with his cover band. 6:30 - 7:30 Don mentions that another benefit of the Stick Twirl is when playing long sets or shows. It allows you to be able to relax your fulcrum a bit so you can stay loose and limber through the performance. He also tells us that the color for the production models will be a natural wood color. With that in mind, the product will be very difficult to notice when attached to the drumstick. 7:30 - 10:00: This spot is when Don gets into the controversial aspect of his product starting out with a neat experience with Jared Falk from Drumeo. Jared's feedback was great but there was a small percentage of people that saw this product as a way of cheating or maybe like a performance enhancing device! More importantly, he talks about the great response they've received from many drummers out there. From there, Don makes some good points about having to get a feel for the Stick Twirl. 10:00 - 11:00: In our next section Kevin brings up that Don and Matt have joined NAMM and we talk about them being at the summer show in Nashville, Tennessee. We also touch a little on that show plus the upcoming winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California. 11:00 - 13:00: Here Kevin talks about his first impressions when he heard about the product. Like Don pointed out earlier, the Stick Twirl can be a great fulcrum aid. But in Kevin's case, he talks about how it can be helpful for developing skill with the french grip. 13:00 - 14:00:  Now Don brings up the great point that this product could definitely help drummers with hand disabilities or fatigue. Even carpel tunnel is mentioned and we think it's a great topic to get into. 14:00 - 18:00: This spot has Matt and Don talking a bit about some of the support they have from the drum manufacturers and professional drummers out there. Guys like Billy Thunder with Tim McGraw and manufacturers like Pro-Ma...

 Pablo Viveros – Drummers I Like Podcast #16 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:38:58

Welcome to another episode of the Drummers I Like Podcast! We are stoked to bring you Pablo Viveros from Chelsea Grin. Pablo has been playing drums for a very long time and his story is nothing short of amazing emphasizing some of the reoccurring themes we tend to get into on the show. Richard, Kevin and Pablo dive into a handful of topics ranging from drum lessons, not going to your lessons and what being a cool guy with drive can do for you. We also make continual reference to the strict guidance of Momma Viveros as she continually pushed Pablo to master his true craft of playing the drums. Pablo is an amazing player with an amazing approach to playing the drums and to life itself, so tune in! 7:00 - 13:00: Pablo takes us through his journey starting with the beginning days in Mexico jamming with his dad in their music room. He goes on to tell us about moving to America and how his brother purchased what ended up being his first kit. Pablo snatched up that kit in 8th grade and started playing heavily every day trying to learn any and all Pop Punk albums. We go on to talk about his introduction to music lessons with " Sneeze " and being thrown off by the odd curriculum thrown at him from day one. 13:00-15:00: We talk about Pablo's short stint with the jazz band and how his ability to play landed him the spot ultimately to have his lack of being able to read get him kicked. Kevin points out his dislike for that type of teaching behavior suggesting the teacher should have worked with Pablo instead of giving him the boot. 15:00-21:00: Pablo talks in depth about his first pop-punk band three-star hotel and his introduction to recording with the gig that lasted about 2 years. Pablo and Rich reminisce on genre-jumping between pop-punk and screamo and Kevin reminds us his age as we talk anthrax and Kevin's hardcore sludge days. 21:00-27:00: Pablo gets into his pop punk cover bands and jamming covers at his parent's house in his teens. We get into his journey of playing with different bands, talent shows and more. Pablo gets into continually being drawn to guitar ( against his mom's wishes ) and going into a drum hiatus. Ultimately being led back to jamming more pop punk covers doing his best to emulate his hero, Travis Barker. 27:00-31:00: Kevin points out the commonalities between Pablo and Rich as they get into having the same Sonor kits and same beat cymbals. They go on to discuss entry level drum sets and playing with broken cymbals... the struggle is real. As the guys nerd out on cymbals, Kevin points out growing up with Scimitar cymbals and playing his CB-700 kit. 31:00-36:00: As we dig deeper into Pablo's story we hear about his short soccer career missing his first practice for a talent show tryout his band ultimately didn't make the cut for. He jumps back to his lessons with Sneeze leading to his original band connections happening there. 36:00-44:00: Pablo talks about moving to Pocatello to join screamo band Death in December. The band was well established with great musicianship and backing so it seemed like a no-brainer. He talks about the ups and downs and eventually recording with Don Lithgow, journeying with the band and learning the ups and downs of being a full-time drummer. After some rough bumps and a year of not doing much he left the band and headed home to take a break. 44:00-52:00: We get into the next few years of music leading up to his band Becoming Everest as the lead guitar player. He also ended up meeting his now current drum tech, Jesus. This eventually led to him recording at the same studio as Chelsea Grin forging the first connection to the crew that he would ultimately end up joining. 52:00-57:00: Pablo talks about getting the text from Alex about potentially joining Chelsea Grin and what it took to learn the songs he needed to learn i...

 Jay Postones – Drummers I Like Podcast #14 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:54:44

Welcome back to another episode of the Drummers I Like Podcast. Today we are extremely excited to bring you Jay Postones! By now, anyone who plays drums knows that the name Jay Postones is associated with only the most technical and mind blowing of playing and when he isn't shredding it out his band Tesseract, he is building drums and running his Company Planet Earth Drums. We have been trying to set this interview up for ages so it was nice to finally link up with our good friend Jay Postones! The last time we got to hang with Jay was back in April of 2014 when we set up some awesome drum cams! We start with business as usual as Jay gives us a detailed run-down of his introduction to music, what led him to play drums and how he got the where he is today playing with Tesseract. Pushing deeper into the envelope of Jay's approach to playing and writing we are astonished to learn that he has no formal educational training and is for the most part completely self-taught. Moving on we go into deep detail regarding Jay's setup breaking down each drum and cymbal on his rig as well as his awesome Porter and Davis Drum Throne. Jay also breaks down his tuning regimen and how he achieves that sweet sound live by using different approaches. We even touch base on a more obscure way of tuning your floor tom that both Jay and Rich learned from our great friend Matt Halpern. As we tread down this detailed path Kevin plugs Jay on his more recent drum building ventures getting deep into his recent Stave Snare build with even more detail as Jay breaks down his approach to the drum building Business. As we start to wind things down we get into the current state of tesseract and Jay talks a little bit about to upcoming Polaris Re-Release and what it entails. I plug Jay about the future of Tesseract and am pretty stoked to learn that album 4 is a go and in the works as we speak! As we dig deeper, Jay gets talks about the normal writing process for Tesseract and how things have changed for the upcoming album making him more excited than ever for what Tesseract is planning to release... (think that giggling feeling you get when you have insider info that none of your friends have.. that is how Jay is feeling right now).  Jared Easterling – Drummers I Like Podcast #13 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:28:44

Hey, Drummers! We are back with another great episode of the Drummers I Like podcast. Today our guest is the young, extremely talented and humble Jared Easterling! Those who know Jared's playing. Whether it's playing in his band Fit For A King or any of his social media streams. Knows he seriously holds it down behind the kit. His playing is groovy with just the perfect touch of technicality speckled with emotion that's locked in the pocket. We really had a great time getting to know the beast that is Jared and after a long chat, we really felt like we made a new friend! So sit back, relax and enjoy another great episode of the Drummers I Like Podcast! Rich got the info on Jared quite a while ago from a mutual friend of his band. He knew to keep up with their progress and they we're coming out heavy and strong. We start our show in the regular Drummers I Like fashion-- getting the info on how he got into drumming and some history up to now.  Jared got into drumming basically just to see if they could actually make the drumline in middle school. From there, he fell in love with the craft and continued to play through high school so he got a good grasp of rudimental drumming from those experiences. Like most drummers of his age, he was heavily influenced by the drumming of Aaron Gillespie. Rich and Jared have a good talk about listening and learning Underoath songs and how Aaron helped shape their playing. Those traits still shine through each of them to this day. Rich also points out how comfortable Jared's setup looks! That starts us out on a great talk about gear. Make sure to listen for a great chat about Jared's choice of Meinl cymbals and how he changes things up as well as his favorite cymbal right now. It was really cool to get into a chat about the writing process for Fit For A King. He also talks a lot about the evolution of the band. Like we can all attest to, progressing a band to the level that Jared has is a very tall order. His insight into what that road has been like is indispensable for young drummers out there that have dreams of doing the same thing one day. Jared continues that talk with us all the way to what he's doing currently with his band. They have a great lyric video for the song Pissed Off on their newest album Deathgrip. They'll be doing some touring soon so make sure to keep up with their schedule. You'll want to make sure to get out to a show near your town and enjoy Jared's drumming. We finally move into our final portion of the show, The Rapid singles, this is the part of the show in which we run through six questions intended to give you the users some serious insight to go home with! We cover topics such as Jared's best piece of advice and his favorite tools/resources for drummers. He also gets deep into the hurdles he had to overcome in order to take his career to then next level and of course our exciting question #6 which always provides a unique answer and Jared's was no exception. This wraps it up for this episode the Podcast! We can't thank Jared enough for coming on to the show and are looking forward to catching up with him in person soon so we can check out that seat height! Don't forget to pick up/pre-order his band fit for a king's new album " DeathGrip".  Travis Orbin – Drummers I Like Podcast #12 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 59:28

What's up everyone? Drummers I Like back again with episode #12 of our podcast. Today we are all in for a real treat. Our guest is one of the best in the business right now, Travis Orbin. We're so excited to bring you today's show. Travis's playing is so strong and fluid he's a great guy to chat with and hear what information he could pass along to so many drummers that look up to him. Travis is the current drummer for Darkest Hour and also stays very busy recording many, many recording sessions. Travis plays Pearl drums, Zildjian cymbals, Remo drumheads, and e-pad practice pads. When we get things started we always like to get into a quick history of our guests and Travis was no exception. He talks about having a natural obsession with rhythm and his early love for drumming. As well as talking about lessons with his first instructor and some of his work in early bands before he became the powerhouse player we know today. Rich was a huge Sky Eats Airplane fan-- we got some insight into his early work with that act as well as his time with Periphery and some of his other early professional projects. From there we really try to get into some details about how Travis approaches his vast amount of session work and the writing process for those sessions. He gets a lot of different calls so it really allows him to really put his stamp on a lot of diverse music. Another thing that Travis mentions that all us drummers need to keep at the front of our mind is his drive and work ethic. He has always made the time to work on his drumming and continues to make it his number one priority. Like I said, we can all take a lesson from that. Travis plays quite a unique drum setup. So we enjoyed a good talk about how he started to experiment with a symmetrical drum setup and how that setup changes for different groups that he works with. I can't speak for everyone but I personally have been very intrigued by the symmetrical and think it can really change your mindset of how you approach your playing. We had a lot of fun playing our perfect timing challenge and Travis was able to play live so listen out for his score and see how you can compare and let us know your results too! From there we get a chance to hit our rapid singles segment to really gain some great knowledge from such an amazing drummer. I won't mention too much so you can listen for yourself. However, one thing that comes up in this part of the show was that one thing that Travis needed to work on to really launch himself to the next level in his drumming career, and that was his timing. It really puts into perspective that even the best drummers in the world have to work on these things. I think that a lot of drummers out there just look at all these very technical guys and assume that they just naturally had these abilities without having to work on them. That's just not the case. So just like Travis had to do. Go out and become one with your metronome. Your playing will benefit so much. So that about wraps up our show today and we can't thank Travis enough for taking the time to share his knowledge and experience with all of us. Listen for some of his upcoming shows with Darkest Hour. They are writing their 9th studio album and Travis says a lot of the next year will probably be spent out on the road so get out and check him out live! He's such a pleasure to watch play! Make sure to check out the Drummers I Like social media streams. We are running the Who's kit is it? Contest. Check out the rules and you could possibly win a $25 Amazon gift card. Also, go by and subscribe to our show and leave us a rating and review. It helps us know how we can bring you the best possible show we can and helps drummers find our show.

 Jesse Shelley – Drummers I Like Podcast #11 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:12:14

Welcome back to another episode of the Drummers I Like podcast. On today's show we have the young and very skilled, Jesse Shelley. Jesse handles the drumming duties for Being as and Ocean as well as Sleepwave.  We couldn't wait to hear what Jesse had to share with us on today's show! He was great and we know you drummers will love it. For such a young guy at 24, he's achieved a lot and talks with a wisdom beyond his years. Jesse plays Truth Custom Drums, Zildjian Cymbals, Vic Firth Sticks, and 64 Audio for his in-ears. As with all of our guests, we had Jesse get into his history with drumming and how he started out. Coming from a musical family he got involved from a very young age and took to music very naturally. From smashing Tupperware to being involved in his early local bands Jesse breaks down a lot of early years behind the kit.  His drumming is self-taught which shows he has a great ear for music. He has some great stories and experiences from growing and learning drums. He also talks about getting to the next level in his drumming career, when he started touring, and how networking helped launch him to the status of a full-time drummer. Jesse gets into some of the details about how he got involved with Sleepwave and a little about being in the band with ex-Underoath member Spencer Chamberlain, as well as what led to playing with Being as an Ocean. Jesse hasn't just sat around and waited for a chance to live his dream. He made sacrifices to get to the next level and his insight is invaluable. We also got into a fun chat about gear. Jesse is a huge John Bonham fan and definitely goes for the big Bonham style drum look and sound. It's cool to hear how his drums will change depending on the band he's playing with as well. Probably the coolest stuff that Jesse had to say involves networking and just being a cool person to hang out with. It's such an important thing, especially for young drummers coming up. When you have to tour the country in tight confines with your band-mates, if you're a difficult person to get along with you won't find yourself on many great gigs. We had a great time in our Rapid Singles segment. That's where you'll hear a lot about this topic and much more. So make sure to listen for that! We really can't thank Jesse enough for coming on and being part of the show. We definitely have to give a shout out to our guy Brendan for getting him booked on the show with us. We think a ton of our listeners will benefit from the points Jesse talks about in this podcast. Keep on the lookout for Jesse's score in our keeping perfect time challenge. He couldn't play along live on the air but will be getting back to us on his score. That's it for another Drummers I Like podcast. As always, check out the website and subscribe to our show. All our links will be just below this post. Don't forget to leave us a review to see if you'll qualify for a Drummers I Like sticker pack! We have some great shows lined up so make sure you hit that subscribe button on your favorite podcast app. Till next week! Ciao!  Jovan Dawkins – Drummers I Like Podcast #10 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:15:18

What's up, drummers?! We're back with another episode of the Drummers I Like podcast. Today is episode #10 and we couldn't be happier to break into the double digits. Today we had the pleasure of bringing you a chat we had with Jovan Dawkins. Jovan is not only a very accomplished drummer. He's a renowned producer as well. He's worked with artists like Jamie Foxx and Travis Barker. Has had his work featured in the movie "The Amazing Spiderman 2". and was the drummer for Sir Mix-A-Lot at one time. We want to thank our listeners who have been with us for this first 10 episodes. It's been a steep learning curve so far, and we're continuing to learn and grow more every day. Speaking of growing we are excited to announce that we've made a few minor changes to the show on this latest episode. We think you're going to love it. Our biggest new addition is our segment entitled "Rapid Singles". It's a lightning round of six questions that we will ask all of our guests to answer rather quickly. These questions are geared to provide you listeners with knowledge right from the minds of the drummers you like. The answers that you hear will be unique from drummer to drummer and will provide insight to not only improve your drumming skills but how to grow yourself as a business and be successful in the music industry. Another fun new spot on the show is a cool game we found. It's aimed right at us drummers too. I came across it on "The Beat Loft" and thought it would be a fun challenge for our guests and something the listeners could enjoy as well. The game itself is simple. It begins by playing a metronome click and tells you to either click your mouse button or strike a key on your keyboard in time with the click. As you play along with the click drops out but you have to keep going. When it's all finished, it grades you on a scale of 0-1000 based on how well you kept the beat with no click. The secret is recording your score for the very first time you play. We will be recording the scores for our guests and you can see how well you match up against some of the best in the business. We had a great time playing the game with Jovan. So make sure to listen to his score. Another great topic we get into on our chat is Jovan's new cymbal company "Impact Cymbals". Everything is just getting off the ground and we were very excited to chat about the details. Impact Cymbals is trying some things that have never been done before in the cymbal industry and we all know its an industry that has been around for centuries. Make sure to listen to what Jovan is doing differently with Impact. We can't wait to check em' out for ourselves in person. Our talk with Jovan Dawkins went great and we think the new additions to the show will continue to be a lot of fun. Jovan dropped a lot of knowledge for you drummers out there today and his answers in our "Rapid Singles" segment are priceless. As always, we thank you for listening to the show and remind you to please stop by and subscribe to the podcast. We also ask that you take the time to give us a review. We can't explain how much it helps us to keep growing and there might just be something in it for you too. Thanks again. Until next time!  Gary Husband, Megadeth – Drummers I Like Podcast #9 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:46

In the Drummers I Like podcast episode #9, Rich and I cover a range of news in our drum community. Gary Husband with Antonie Fafard's new project Sphere. Dave Mustaine has a new Megadeth drummer  and Sabian's Crescent clinic tour. All this plus more with our usual banter and opinions. It's great to get back to you with a podcast! We've been putting a lot of attention on building Drummers I Like and it has taken quite a bit of work and time to get all of our plans together. We apologize for the delays. Rich and I are glad to welcome Zak Diaz to our team. He's got off to a great start and makes a great addition to our team! Rich and I are lucky to have Zak and Tyler with us. They do great work! So let's get on to the show! Drummer Gary Husband has been working with Antoine Fafard's latest project Sphere. We know Gary is a rare gem in our drum world. Well, at least most of us. (Rich!) His work continues to showcase his impressive drumming! With Gary being an accomplished pianist he always brings a refreshing approach that plays so well with any music he puts his drumming stamp on. Gary is also featured on some piano and keyboard with Sphere too. So go check out our link to a video that talks about the new project and has a lot of Gary explaining his great work on this awesome music! Dave Mustaine was back in the drumming news again for his recent announcement that there's a new Megadeth lineup! They have introduced their new drummer Dirk Verburen. We all know Dirk from his excellent drumming for the band Soilwork as well work with other acts like Devin Townsend, Meshuggah, and Jeff Loomis among others. Drummers I Like really loves Dirk's passion for education as well. He's an accomplished clinician and through his Dirk Blasts videos. We're very happy for Dirk getting the gig. Make sure to listen to me vent about Dave Mustaine and Megadeth a bit on the show too!!! Also in gear and clinic related news, Sabian has announced their Crescent clinic tour to highlight their line of Crescent cymbals. It's actually two clinics: One set of dates featuring jazz legend Jeff Hamilton. Then another set of dates for a tour with New Orleans great Stanton Moore. Both artists have their own signature collections. Stanton's cymbals just bear his own name and Jeff's are called the Hammertone. The clinics will be held at some of Sabian's hand selected boutique dealers. Check out our links for more info, dates, and locations for the clinics. I'm trying to get Rich to get out to Jeff Hamilton's clinic in Hollywood so leave him a comment and encourage him to go too! We touch on an article I came across on rockfeed.net that talked about not relying on your close friends and family to support your band. I know the topic seems a little harsh, but the author does bring up some good points. Rich and I cover some of those thoughts and our opinions on the article so listen for that and tell us what you think too! As always we thank you, drummers, for listening and for your continued support.

 Steve Carey – Drummers I Like Podcast #8 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:17:10

What's up everybody? We're back with another Drummers I Like podcast and we are very excited this week to present (drumroll) Steve Carey drummer of The Color Morale. We've been following Steve for a long time and it was great to feature him here on our podcast. He is a really great guy who has an amazingly positive outlook on life and it was good to chat with such an upbeat and generally awesome person! Rich and Kevin thought of some great topics to go over with Steve. He has a lot of great things going on right now so it was perfect timing to talk with him about things like his background in drumming. Steve came from a pretty musical family and really credits his parents for getting him into music from a young age. His father is a guitarist and big Beatles fan, so when Steve was first developing his drumming skills he would jam with his dad and that helped to build his musical foundation. He credits his mom with his love for soul and r&b influence. This great environment really helped Steve become the drummer he is today. Another topic we discuss is how his band got started and some of the new things we can expect from them. They will be releasing their new album Desolate Divine on Aug 19th and they dropped their first song "Walls" the same day we conducted our interview. It was exciting to talk a little about the recording process for this new album as well as some insight into how they approached writing this album so make sure to listen for that! We also got into talking about his beautiful DW drum kit as well as some of his favorite Zildjian cymbals. Kevin really liked hearing about the 21" A Custom 20th Anniversary Ride cymbal which caught his attention from seeing some of Steve's performance videos. Everyone will get a chance to see Steve this summer when he's on the Van's Warped Tour! He'll be doing his best to stay hydrated on the grueling summer tour that we all look forward to every year! The whole chat was very laid back and just felt like a few guys just sitting around talking drums and shooting the wind. We hope all you listeners really dig our talk! Don't forget to check out all of Steve's links below these notes to keep up with him and to keep an eye out for some of his really cool videos. He really likes to play a lot of different grooves and we always look forward to seeing what he's posting next. We would also love for you listeners out there to give us your feedback on how we're doing! Get on Itunes and leave us a rating and/or review. It helps to see how we're doing and where we can improve as well as help other drummers find our show and enjoy the Drummers I Like community we are trying to grow.  Cleaning drums, E-cymbals – Drummers I like Podcast #7 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:20

What's going on drummers? Thanks for checking out another great episode of the Drummers I Like podcast! Rich and Kevin have a great talk this week about some things that have been going on in the drummers community and also some Drummers I Like news for things that are in the works! Some of the main points to check out are Kevin's ideas on building his own E-Cymbal for electronic drum kits, some great ways to help create better videos to showcase your unique playing skills in a world of social media, and the importance of self-promotion for drummers. Kevin has been brainstorming for some time now and is ready to delve into the world of homemade e-kits. He's been working to find some solutions to what it would take to build his own e-cymbals (electronic drum cymbals) as an addition to his Roland v-drum set. His kit has more than a few tired pads. He briefly explains some of his ideas of materials it will take to build and some of the basic steps to wire everything correctly. It all sounds like it should work pretty well so we can't wait to bring more news about how the first build of E-cymbals will turn out. If all go's well you can expect some tutorial videos on how to take advantage of this D.I.Y. way to add more sounds to your e-kit on a budget. Kevin should be able to share a ton on this topic as he's always on a budget! Rich gets into his weekend of cleaning up and setting up his acoustic drums. This is always a task that we all get excited for then lose enthusiasm about an hour into the project. But Rich endured and got his DW performance series 8x14 snare drum looking amazing and rest of his Shine kit looking spectacular as well. He describes some of the cleaning products he used to get his drums back in tip top shape. Rich also describes his tuning process for that snare and he and Kevin get into a good discussion about Vater Buzzkills and how they stack up against some of the other companies out there that are making a similar drum dampening products. The guys also get into some new Drummers I Like news as well with the announcement that the next guest on the podcast will be...(drum roll please). Mr. Steve Carey the drummer of The Color Morale. Steve is an excellent drummer and we can't wait to have a chat with him. Rich talks about his thoughts on Steve and we are all very excited to have him come on with us. Make sure to email or comment us if you have any questions for Steve when we have him on the show. They also talk a bit about Rich's trip to Florida this week for a much-needed vacation to celebrate his son's 2nd birthday. Kevin and Rich really look forward to seeing each other as it has been close to a year since that's happened. Hopefully we should see some great drumming footage of Rich and Kevin hanging out at Kevin's rehearsal space. Rich should enjoy some quality time behind some acoustic drums as long he can contest with Kevin's tall-guy-with-long-arms setup. We think he should be good though! Some other big drumming news that happened this week was the announcement by Gretsch drums. They have announced that none other than Vinnie Colaiuta has come back home to Gretsch drums. We here at Drummers I Like were very happy to hear Vinnie has gone back to Gretsch. Rich and Kevin talk a bit about the announcement and Kevin attempts to clear up some misinformation that has been pretty widespread in the drumming community about the partnership between Gretsch and DW drums. Kevin plays Gretsch himself and has always considered himself a fan of their products and business practices. That brings them to their discussion about the partnership between the two companies and how it can only mean good things for the legendary American drum builders! Well, that's about it for this installment of the Drummers I Like Podcast.

 Benjamin Benzel Baltimore Cowan – Drummers I Like Podcast #5 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:10:46

Rich and Kevin are back again with the Drummers I Like podcast. On today's episode, we bring you the drummer for the George Clinton Parliament Funkadelic show, none other than Mr. Benjamin Benzel Baltimore Cowan.   We've been talking with Benjamin Benzel Baltimore Cowan ( Benzel for short) for quite a while now so it was excellent to finally get him on the show with us. He's a gifted and passionate person and he has received great  insight and help from some of the most renown and famous drummers in the business. Guys like Dave Weckl and probably most importantly, a man he refers to as family more than as a friend, the great Dennis Chambers. Dennis is considered by many to be one of the best drummers of all time. Benzel is also sitting on the throne for George Clinton Parliament Funkadelic show. The talk we have with Benzel was a lot of fun and very inspiring. He has some strong drumming ideas and a raw way of delivering his message. We get into detail with Benzel about growing up as a drummer and being around Dennis from a young age. Benzel really gets into his shredding when he is traveling around the world and here in the states. He emphasizes the importance of playing with as many musicians as possible and also having drums only sessions with your drumming friends to share knowledge and grow as a drummer. Benzel gets into some of the greats that he's studied with and also has some insight to a drumming rivalry involving some of those great drummers we all know! There's so much conversation in this episode that you just have to hear it for yourself. Just like we always do, we encourage you to visit Benzel's links to his social media channels and keep up with his touring schedule! Try to get out there and check out the George Clinton Parliament Funkadelic show and you'll not be disappointed. Benzel's chops are on display when the music calls for it and when he shreds, HE SHREDS! So listen to the show and enjoy the chat. After that head over to iTunes and give us a rating and review.  Freddy Charles – Drummers I Like Podcast #4 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:58

Hello drummers and listeners! Drummers I Like here again with another episode of the Drummers I Like Podcast. This week we had the honor of having Freddy Charles as our guest.   Freddy is a multi-instrumentalist, a drummer and an accomplished entrepreneur that has found his favorite place being behind the kit. He definitely brings a unique insight to drumming and you can thank that to his diverse musical skills. His sense of time and incredible feel on the drums stands out in his playing. All three of us had a great chat and got into Freddy's early drumming journey as well as his influences, his opinions on digging into the roots of drumming, and the hot humid weather of Miami. We (especially Kevin) were pretty excited that he cited Bill Bruford as one of his main influences. We can all agree that drummers of all ages should check him out (especially you young guns) and take in some of his very original drumming. Freddy gave us some insight into his rehearsal spaces in both New York and his really cool setup in Miami that is actually like a shipping container. Freddy explained that its kind of like one of those pods that you can pack and store large items in. Freddy has taken it and added some acoustic treatment to make it an awesome place to film his excellent drum videos! We had a great discussion and Freddy has a great outlook and humble approach to drumming in general. It was cool to hear a little about his musical mindset as well as his journey from drummer to guitarist to vocalist and back to a drummer. Drummers that have taken the time to perfect their talent can really appreciate the journey Freddy has taken with enough information to add to your own. Freddy has some really cool things going on right now and we get into this and more during the podcast.  Make sure to link up with Freddy by checking out the links below this post if you're not following him already. Thanks again for listening to the Drummers I Like podcast and please feel free to give us your feedback. We want to know how we're doing and the more feedback the better. We are always striving to improve and it takes your opinions and thoughts and want to make each episode better than the last. 'Till next week!
