Today I have a special guest. He is Charles Chamberlain. Who is Charles Chamberlain? Charles Chamberlain, is Executive Director of Democracy for America. He joined Democracy for America in 2006 as Political Director, where he led campaigns for the public option and against telecom immunity for spying on Americans as well as endorsements of controversial primary candidates against Sen. Joe Lieberman, Sen. Blanche Lincoln, and Rep. Al Wynn. He also directed DFA’s successful campaigns to stop the Republican War on the Working Families in Wisconsin and Ohio. In January of 2012, Charles became the Executive Director of Progressive Congress, the foundation for the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Charles rejoined DFA as Executive Director in August of 2013 and leads the strategic direction of the DFA team. Before DFA, Charles spent over a decade grassroots organizing and directing statewide campaigns in 17 states for direct democracy initiatives and referendums working with the AFL-CIO, SEIU, Americans for Medical Rights, and others in fights ranging from funding early childhood development and protecting civil liberties to defending collective bargaining rights and raising the minimum wage. He’s also served on staff for Assemblymember Scott Wildman in California’s 43rd as the community organizer responsible for revitalizing in-district resident associations, neighborhood watches, and PTA’s. Outside of the office, Charles likes to play disc golf, drink micro-brews, and eat Vermont cheese at the Farmhouse as well as watch too much T.V. with his wife, Alejandra. The economic surge is real. Yesterday we found out that unemployment fell to 5.6%. We had the best year in over 15 years. None of this should be happening. There were many who said that the policies of the current administration would destroy the economy. The reality is that this President in two years of policy under total Democratic control of government that supported a more progressive policy, laid the foundation for what is happening. Just think what can happen with complete cooperation from all sides. Of course many are left with eggs on their faces and they are attempting toretroactively take credit. What are your thoughts? David Hooks. Killed in his home by the police. Not a criminal.  Did not do anything wrong. Victim of a burglary/robbery the day before. Today we are sending you a show done by our Coffee Talk Radio partner, Tim Danahey. His daily shows this week are something of "an American self examination".  This episode, "Want to Run for Congress? Listen to What Happened to This American":  If you don’t believe money has taken over government, then listen to this story about how a citizen ran for Congress in Colorado’s 4th District. Vic Meyers is a long-time party loyalist who offered to be the candidate since no one wanted to oppose the established political party in this uncompetitive redistricted Congressional seat. Vic Meyers encountered party leaders who wouldn’t support him unless he had $200,000 seed money. A partisan newspaper ordered its reporter to cover a chihuahua race rather than interview him. When he organized fund-raisers, party leaders came in from other districts, discouraged people from contributing to Vic’s campaign, and poached contributions for other candidates in other districts. Shining a light on the incident in Dublin, GA when a police drug task force killed David Hooks in his home made me look at what policies and practice the Police use in these type of circumstances. Nationally, and, locally for me, we have had a number of recent deaths that have thrown Police practice and Policy under the microscope.  This along with the Grand Jury Process, are paramount to review and understand.,  Juxatposed with the Constitution. Joining me tonight to disucss what happened to David Hooks is Former Laurens County Deputy Sheriff Jerald "Tom" McCain. Considered an expert on the Constitutional Duties of a Sheriff in Georgia Tom is also a Certified Law Enforcement Classroom Instructor. He is the former Chief Deputy Sheriff of Johnson County, GA from 2001 to 2008 after working as a Deputy Sheriff in Laurens Cty, GA where David Hooks was killed, from 92 thru 98. He personally knows a number of the law enforcement officials involved in this case.  He will help us understand the subjects we discuss tonight.
