Review #100 Ben Hur | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Film History on Videotape celebrates our 100th episode and the end of 2012 with what could possibly be the most epic film of them all... Ben Hur from 1959 starring Charlton Heston in the titular role. When a Prince of the Jews is betrayed by his childhood friend and now Roman tribune Messala, he seeks revenge for his honor, and his mother and sister. Chariot races, bloody sea faring battles, and some fine storytelling make this movie not just one of our favorites, but a no brainer of a pick when deciding what our 100th review should be. We give you Ben Hur as our 100th episode on Film History on Videotape!  Review #99 Heaven's Gate | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Some films are epic in scope. Some are epic in their concepts. This Epic in December may or may not have had those... but it was most certainly an epic failure. Film History on Videotape bring you our review for Heavens Gate, the 1980 epic western directed by Michael Cimino. This movie has one of the worst reputations in cinema history but is it really that bad? Sometimes a film is not appreciated in its time but later finds an audience. Is this true with Heavens Gate? Is it a beautifully shot work of art or a train wreck that is unbearable to sit through? Listen and find out!  Review #98 Santa Claus: The Movie | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Its a bird... Its a plane... Its Santa Claus: The Movie here on Film History on Videotape! It was the mid 80's, and the super producing team that brought you Supergirl and Superman III were looking for another iconic figure to turn into a franchise of movies. What came of that idea was this... the origin story of St. Nick. He flies all over the world delivering toys to the good little children of the world from his remote north pole hideaway and workshop. Ever wonder how reindeer fly or what Kris Kringle really thinks of the poem The Night Before Christmas? Well you're about to find out. Enjoy and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!  Review #97 Giant | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Epics in December keeps on rolling. Rolling along the plains and flatlands of Texas that is. Film History on Videotape reviews the 1956 movie Giant, starring Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor and featuring the last on screen performance of James Dean. A film with true epic scope that is rich with themes of class, race relations, age, love and a legacy. When a young Texas bred landowner brings his new bride back to the ranch... nothing will be the same. Rope some cattle and drill for oil with the film that lost the Best Picture Oscar to Around The World in Eighty Days. Ouch. Length [00:30:30m] Download this episode (right click and save)

 Review # 96 Avatar | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Epic movies are as old a genre as any other, so we decided to go back a couple of years to review the polarizing and immensely popular James Cameron science fiction opus... Avatar. The year was 2009, and 3D wasn't something that was on a lot of peoples minds. Avatar was a game changer in that regard. With just as many good things in the movie as there are bad, what is it that made this massive Hollywood epic so appealing and yet so divisive? Film History on Videotape brings you yet another epic in December, with Avatar. Enjoy! Length [00:30:27m] Download this episode (right click and save)
