Review #78 Dark Shadows | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Its Halloween and for the entire month Film History on Videotape is going to get horrifying... and hilarious. Our first review for the month of October is for the recent Tim Burton helmed Dark Shadows, which comes out on DVD this month. The Collins family are a secretive and sordid bunch who get caught up in the return of an old relative of theirs... who also happens to be a vampire. While not exactly a horror movie persey, it has the elements of the horror genre and Danny is a big fan of the TV show. Does it pass the test? Only one way to find out. Film History on Videotape continues going Back To School with The Faculty from 1998, starring Elijah Wood and Josh Hartnett among many others. This early work from director Robert Rodriguez sets itself apart from your run of the mill late 90's horror flick but does that mean its any good? Has Salma Hayek ever been more unsexy in a movie? Isnt Richard Patrick Awesome? Listen to our review of The Faculty for Back To School month. Length [00:24:21m] Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #72 Heathers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Ahhh the joys of Autumn. The leaves are turning... there is a chill in the air... and murder is the only way to get ahead at your high school. Film History on Videotape is going back to school this month with Heathers, the morbid black comedy from 1988 that helped kick off the careers of Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. With satirical wit and a hyper realized sense of reality, this movie was an easy choice to review for our Back to School series. Teenage Suicide. Dont do it!  Review #71 Lone Wolf McQuade | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

The 'Mad Dog' Criminal...The 'Lone Wolf' Lawman...The Ultimate Showdown! Film History on videotape wraps up Action August with the classic 1983 film starring Chuck Norris and David Carradine; Lone Wolf McQuade. This action flick from the early 80's runs through the gamut of cliches, from the "lone wolf" Texas Ranger, the evil villain with the widow of his partner who falls for the hero at first sight, the retired buddy who gets avenged, The daughter of the hero in harms way, the captain trying to rein in the hero, and the new young partner the hero does not want. With its mix of James Bondian pacing, martial arts fight sequences, and a spaghetti western feel, we thought it was a perfect choice to end the series. Enjoy!  Review #26 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

David Fincher is known for many things... his gritty style, his attention to detail. It all comes to end here at Film History on Videotape as we review The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara this crime thriller is based on the world famous novel of the same name. Join Max and Danny to see if Fincher stays ahead of the game or is just calling this one in. Also check out FHOV's reviews of Se7en and Zodiac to complete David Fincher's Crime Trilogy. Please Enjoy.  Length [00:30:20m] Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #08 Total Recall | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

So there is a brand NEW Total Recall in the works starring Collin Farrell coming out next year. What a great opportunity to review the "classic" 1990 original film starring Arnold Scharwassezznegger!!! Max and Danny look at the awesome hilarity... the obscure... and the downright stupidity of this fantastic sci fi super blockbuster film that asks the questions... Is it really happening or is it in your mind? You blabbed Quaid! You blabbed about Mars! Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #69 First Blood | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

One war against one man... but they drew first blood. Action August continues with the 1982 film that set the standard for the 90 minute action movie, and made Stallone a star; First Blood. A Vietnam vet gets pushed too far and the consequences are dire to a small town sheriff and eventually the National Guard. This movie seems to be eclipsed and in the shadow of its sequel, Rambo, so we thought it might be nice to watch it as a stand alone film and see how it holds up. Enjoy!  Review #70 The Transporter | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

He is ex military. He drives for hire transporting goods or even people from one spot to another... no questions asked. He really likes to fight without a shirt on. Film History on Videotape and Action August rolls along with The Transporter from 2002 starring Jason Statham and a bunch of people you've never hard of. This first installment in the series of Transporter movies combines break neck car chases, an incoherent storyline and a greasy oil fight involving bicycle pedals. Dont ask. Just listen.  Review #68 True Lies | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

What do you get when you take a dated comedic idea like a secret agent who lies to his wife about it and add James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger? A giant explosion of action and laughs!!! (along with an awkward strip tease by Tony Curtis' daughter) In what might have been Arnold's last really good movie and the last foray into moviemaking before Cameron set sail on the Titanic, this movie walks the tight rope between explosive action and laugh out loud comedy. Action August keeps rolling along with True Lies from 1994.   Length [00:30:51m] Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #67 Universal Soldier | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

So its the early 90's, and whats better than a European with a hilarious accent acting like a machine that is virtually indestructible? When you have TWO of them! Well at least in theory. Film History on Videotape forges ahead into Action August with Universal Soldier starring Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. Wow do these guys make Arnold look good or what? Enjoy this Roland Emmerich fiasco where the less the actors say... the better. Length [00:25:02m] Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #66 Rocky IV | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Is it East Vs. West... or man against man? Action August is here with Rocky IV. What you say? Rocky IV isnt an action movie? We beg to differ. Film History on Videotape brings you the sweet one two punch of Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren in this 1985 classic that is equally loved as it is reviled. Its also happens to be Olympics time right now and we thought the story of an American traveling abroad to engage in sports with other foreign countries was oddly appropriate. I must break you! Here is... Rocky IV. Length [00:31:09m] 23mb Download this episode (right click and save)

 Review #65 Die Hard 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Its Action August here at Film History on Videotape and we start things off with Bruce Willis in the movie that followed the classic that everyone loves... Die hard 2: Die Harder. Wow what a terrible title. Instead of rehashing the greatness of the first Die Hard movie we thought it would be more interesting to look at the sequel that some love... and some love to hate. Is it as bad as people say or is it a wildly misunderstood action gem from the 80's? Listen to find out! Length [00:27:22m] Download this episode (right click and save)
