Review #95 Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

The epics in December keep getting more epic with the movie responsible for making Gandalf a household name... Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring from 2001. Peter Jackson's first entry in his sprawling Tolkien universe gets us all familiar with the characters we will be spending the next two movies and 12 hours with, as well as setting the standard for today's fantasy film making contingent. With the release of The Hobbit this month we thought it appropriate to look back at the film that started it all over 10 years ago. Check it out and enjoy. Film History on Videotape closes out the month of November of 2012 with our review of Skyfall... the newest 007 movie featuring Daniel Craig as James Bond. MI6 is under attack from an unknown organization of terror and M. is specifically singled out by the ex 00 agent played by Javier Bardem. Does our favorite English spy come to her rescue? People say its not your typical James Bond movie yet it feels like a typical James Bond movie. People have been calling it the best Bond in ages but is it? Find out what we think now on FHOV!  Review #92 Tomorrow Never Dies | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Film History on Videotape continues the month of November with Tomorrow Never Dies starring Pierce Brosnan and Michelle Yeoh. Its the late 90's and an evil media mogul played by Johnathan has plans to rule the world using information and subterfuge rather than with guns and bombs. Oh he also happens to have guns and bombs too... along with henchmen and a submarine. This entry in the 007 movies hearkens back to the days of Roger Moore while taking future of the franchise into a tail spin that only another James Bond could save. Or it is a deliciously hammy and fun movie? Both? Check out Tomorrow Never Dies on FHOV! Length [00:26:47m] jQuery.ajax({ url: "/home/episode_realtime_hits_ajax.php?blog=373313&uri=http://filmhistoryonvideotape.podbean.com/mf/web/r7thfm/FHOV-JamesBondTomorrowNeverDIes.mp3&episode_id=4686408", success: function(data) { jQuery("#hits_4686408").text(data); } }); Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #91 Lincoln | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Four score and a long long time ago in a Union far far away... there was one man who stood up for equality and freedom. Actually there were MANY men who stood up for those things... and this movie is about a lot of them. But mostly its about Abe Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. Film History on Videotape closes out our month of movies concerning the Commander in Chief with Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, starring Daniel Day Lewis in the title role. Its not so much a biopic as it is a portrayal of the last few months of his life. Did we like it? Were there vampires in it? Is there a surprise ending? Listen to find out! Length [00:32:48m] jQuery.ajax({ url: "/home/episode_realtime_hits_ajax.php?blog=373313&uri=http://filmhistoryonvideotape.podbean.com/mf/web/cnmrhp/FHOV-Lincoln.mp3&episode_id=4684151", success: function(data) { jQuery("#hits_4684151").text(data); } }); Download this episode (right click and save)

 Review #90 W. | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Do you miss George W. Bush? His quirks... his mannerisms... his unintentional humor? Well have no fear because W. is here. Film History on Videotape keeps on with movies of a Presidential nature with Oliver Stone's "W." from 2008. This biopic features performances from such all stars like Richard Dreyfuss, James Cromwell, Ellen Burstyn, and Scott Glenn, with the crowning feature being a fantastic and sometimes unrecognizable Josh Brolin as the titular character. 4 years since its release... does it hold up now that events which were then current are now in the past? Listen to find out!   Length [00:27:32m] jQuery.ajax({ url: "/home/episode_realtime_hits_ajax.php?blog=373313&uri=http://filmhistoryonvideotape.podbean.com/mf/web/n8g4qz/FHOV-W.mp3&episode_id=4679905", success: function(data) { jQuery("#hits_4679905").text(data); } }); Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #89 License to Kill | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Dalton. Timothy Dalton. Film History on Videotape's 007 series continues with the underrated License to Kill from 1989. This revenge spy adventure goes a bit off course from the regular formula with a darker and edgier take on what happens when you cross the legendary James Bond. With a great villain and a great title song, this entry in the 007 franchise stands out in a lot of respects, and is quite surprising if you're not familiar with it. Enjoy our take on License to Kill on FHOV! Length [00:24:35m] jQuery.ajax({ url: "/home/episode_realtime_hits_ajax.php?blog=373313&uri=http://filmhistoryonvideotape.podbean.com/mf/web/ndye96/FHOV-JamesBondLicenseToKill.mp3&episode_id=4673022", success: function(data) { jQuery("#hits_4673022").text(data); } }); Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #88 Moonraker | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

A long time ago... in a 007 franchise far far away. Film History on Videotape is getting into a little James Bond this November and we start it off with Moonraker. This Roger Moore entry into the James Bond movies has our favorite secret British agent fighting in space... sort of. Well he ends up in space trying to destroy an evil madman hell bent on re-populating the world with a genetic super race. There is also alot of campy comedy in it. Enjoy our first in this 007 series on FHOV! Length [00:26:43m] Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #87 The American President | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Have you ever wished that the son of Kirk Douglas was the President of the United States? Well your wish is granted. Film History on Videotape continues our month of all things Presidential with Rob Reiner's The American President from 1995. The Commander in Chief gets a girlfriend (played by Annette Bening) in this Aaron Sorkin penned flick that blurs the lines between romance and political savage fart speak. Large roles by Martin Sheen, Samantha Mathis, and the incomparable Michael J. Fox turn a seemingly old idea into something fun to watch and quite "charming" from either political spectrum.  Review #86 Dave | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

This 1993 political/comedy finds Keven Kline posing as the President when the actual leader of the nation goes into a coma. Soon Dave realizes that politics is no joke and he must put a stop to the evil Frank Langela who only wants to see himself in the oval office one day. Directed by Ivan Retimen this light hearted look at the Presidency is full of laughs, heart, and a little love. Listen and see what we thought about our new lovable everyman...Dave.    Length [00:23:20m] Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #85 Slither | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Who says horror comedy is dead? This entry in our series of Horror Comedies for the month of October is a much looked over flick from 2006 called Slither. To cut to the chase its about when a small town becomes under attack by space worms that turn them into zombies. Sound pretty generic and par for the course? A great cast with a lot of clever humor and some really good gore and creature effects make all the difference. Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Banks, and Michael Rooker star in former Troma director James Gunn's directorial debut and comes out swinging. Or slithering. Man there is a lot of gross stuff in this one we gotta tell ya. Happy Halloween from Film History on Videotape! Length [00:21:26m] Download this episode (right click and save)

 Review #84 Gremlins 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Film History on Videotape continues our Horror Comedy month with Gremlins 2 from 1990. This sequel to the 1984 original has quite an interesting production history, taking 6 years and finally going back into the hands of the original director Joe Dante before making it to the big screen. Upon release it polarized audiences and critics alike with its cartoonish tone, over the top slapstick violence, self referential humor, and satire towards all things corporate and Hollywood. With a bunch of cameos and a whole mess of creature and special effects, check out Gremlins 2! Length [00:25:35m] Download this episode (right click and save)

 Review #83 Re-Animator | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

His name is Herbert West, but you can call him... the Re-Animator! The series of Horrific Comedies continues with this 1985 indie horror comedy starring Jerffery Combs as the titular character who is convinced he can take and give life to others at his own will! This movie is what you would call a "cult classic" due to its legions of fans yet still goes under the radar with alot of folks. Killer gore effects, plenty of awkward funny moments and laughs, and of course the ample nudity, make Re-Animator an instant classic upon watching it.
