Review #102 Argo | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

So man awards and accolades! Film History on Videotape delves once more into the fodder of awards season movies with the Ben Affleck directed Argo, a real life story of how Hollywood and the U.S. Government helped extract 6 Americans from Iran in the late 70's by posing as a film crew. I wonder why Hollywood loves it so much? You get fun supporting performances from Alan Arkin, John Goodman, the kid from Empire Records, and that one girl from The Faculty. Is this tense nail biter of a thriller worth all the attention or is it just another pandering example of an accessible movie getting a lot of Oscar attention? Listen in to find out! Length [00:26:15m] jQuery.ajax({ url: "/home/episode_realtime_hits_ajax.php?blog=373313&uri=http://filmhistoryonvideotape.podbean.com/mf/web/jg5bxc/FHOV-Argo.mp3&episode_id=4752117", success: function(data) { jQuery("#hits_4752117").text(data); } }); Download this episode (right click and save)

Film History on Videotape bring you a discussion about Quentin Tarantino's newest cinematic effort starring Jamie Fox and Don Johnson (Miami Vice crossover!) Seriously though, this mashup of blaxploitation and spaghetti western stars a bevy of talented actors that give masterful performances but do the critics give it too much praise? Is Djano Unchained worthy of all the award nonsense and accolades? Listen in to find out!  Review #53 Prometheus | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Its a prequel. Its reboot. Its a sequel. Its been hyped and lauded and lambasted and loved and loathed... all in the matter of a few days since its release. Prometheus, the new foray into science fiction for veteran director Ridley Scott, has been the talk of the town even before its release into theaters. Its an interesting movie that tries to be alot of things with varying levels of success; Hard sci-fi, Summer action tentpole... Special effects darling... dramatic storytelling epic across worlds and time. What did we think? Check it out!  Length [00:39:39m] Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #50 Harold and Maude | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Since Wes Anderson's newest feature Moonrise Kingdom is hitting the theaters this month we here at FHOV thought it appropriate to review one of Mr. Anderson's biggest influences in film... 1972's Harold and Maude starring Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon. Harold is a young spoiled suicidal teenager who learns to live and love with the help of Maude... a 79 year old "manic pixie dream girl". What did we think of it? Check it out!   Length [00:19:42]  Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #54 Rock Star | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Pop quiz. Name an 80's rock n' roll filled tour de force with a popular (and short) leading actor who wears a wig the entire movie? Were you thinking Rock of Ages? Sorry!!! The answer is Rock Star starring Mark Whalberg, Jennifer Anniston, and Dominic West. Film History on Videotape reviews this 2001 hair band infused movie which turned out to be quite the odd little flick, combining satire and genuine drama with some really bizarre comedy that frankly... walks the line between the intentional and coincidental. Rock Star on FHOV. Enjoy!   Length [00:20:01m]  Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #55 The Black Cauldron | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Back in 1985 Disney was trying new things. Trying to broaden their demographics if you will by releasing a handful of movies that were not exactly geared towards small children. Fast forward to today... The Toy Story movies are over and with Cars 2, some say Disney Pixar is on its way out. With the release of Disney Pixar's Brave this month we thought it appropriate to delve back into that experimental period in Disney's canon with The Black Cauldron... a dark yet silly movie with a fascinating production history that couldnt really figure out what it wanted to be. Enjoy!  Length [00:18:20] Download this episode (right click and save)

Review #56 Sin City | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

With the recent announcement of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For going into production with a 2013 release... we here at Film History on Videotape think there is no time like the present to review the first Sin City from 2005. A star studded cast acting circles around each other in a violent and sometimes sick tale of Basin City... the worst city ever in terms of crime... drugs... murder... crime... hookers... and crime. Does it hold up since the 7 years since its initial release? Only one way to find out. Watch it yourself. But first... check out the show. Its Sin City on Film History on Videotape.  Review #43 Games of Death Series: Battle Royale | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

We close out our April Games of Death series with Battle Royale... the Japanese film from 2000 that pits a group of teenagers against each other in a fierce, bloody battle to the death where only the last child standing is the winner. The film has been unreleased in the states until now due to the popular release of a recent film of the same subject. does Battle Royale  live up to its cult status or does it get lost in translation? Dark humor, graphic violence and the power of true and unrequited love abounds in this climax to a great set of reviews. Enjoy!  Length [00:24:56m]  Download this episode (right click and save)
