Prometheus, the new foray into science fiction for veteran director Ridley Scott, has been the talk of the town even before its release into theaters. Its an interesting movie that tries to be alot of things with varying levels of success; Hard sci-fi, Summer action tentpole... Since Wes Anderson's newest feature Moonrise Kingdom is hitting the theaters this month we here at FHOV thought it appropriate to review one of Mr. Anderson's biggest influences in film... 1972's Harold and Maude starring Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon. Harold is a young spoiled suicidal teenager who learns to live and love with the help of Maude... a 79 year old "manic pixie dream girl". What did we think of it? Film History on Videotape reviews this 2001 hair band infused movie which turned out to be quite the odd little flick, combining satire and genuine drama with some really bizarre comedy that frankly... walks the line between the intentional and coincidental. Back in 1985 Disney was trying new things. Trying to broaden their demographics if you will by releasing a handful of movies that were not exactly geared towards small children. Fast forward to today... The Toy Story movies are over and with Cars 2, some say Disney Pixar is on its way out. With the release of Disney Pixar's Brave this month we thought it appropriate to delve back into that experimental period in Disney's canon with The Black Cauldron... a dark yet silly movie with a fascinating production history that couldnt really figure out what it wanted to be. We close out our April Games of Death series with Battle Royale... the Japanese film from 2000 that pits a group of teenagers against each other in a fierce, bloody battle to the death where only the last child standing is the winner. The film has been unreleased in the states until now due to the popular release of a recent film of the same subject. does Battle Royale  live up to its cult status or does it get lost in translation?
