The idea for the set came from looking at my podomatic stats with thousands of downloads and plays from Egypt, Turkey, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.. I thought I would give something back for all of the encouragements I have received from you.   Therefore I thought that after a month of fasting, it was high time to offer some of my followers the music they need to finally party!   Eid Mubarak!   عيد مبارك   So Guys and Girls.. 5 hours of party tunes.. The Funky Train from Athens to Ibiza   Title is a referenced to the Mikis Theodorakis track (No.6), which I was very happy to drop considering the set was put together at the Nysia Hotel pool (Spetses Island, Greece).   A word on the Nissia hotel (http://www.nissia.gr/en). Great place, very good rate for their villas where you can comfortably sleep 6 to 8 people for under 300 EUR B/F included... Why would onenot want to come to Greece?   Sun-drenched poolside tunes with some cherry picked re-rub of old tunes and then the start of all the current beach and soulful tunes I have accumulated in the last 4 months.   I was listening for the nth times to old offensive covers of old tunes at a sunset bar called Cielo. I begged them to stream The Funky Blackman (Campo Allegre) latest podcast (http://funkyblackman.podomatic.com/entry/2015-07-03T21_29_57-07_00).   They finally obliged and the place started grooving… With all the free streaming music around, why on earth would anyone have to endure the same 3 year old crap music on repeat…? A physical one but such a symbolic metaphor for the shambolic economic situation Greece is in.  I spent my first night looking at the thunder hitting the Parthenon and thinking that even Zeus was angry..   I started mixing choosing tunes that were sexy, some dark, some hopeful, some progressive, some sun-drenched, trying, when I could, to choose titles that referenced the issue at end.   As a staunch European I have strong views on what is happening here, this is not the right forum nor my intention to force my views upon you, though the choice of titles might give some an inkling.   For the Greece I love, let's remember that a storm always passes...   Playlist:   2014 Melody Like A Drum Feat Lisa Donnelly (Wild Culture Remix). Needed the first remix to set the darkish nocturnal mood and the second one because it is perfectly produced. And yes the smal vocal sample is from the ATB classic.. "Every Single Piece" from Redondo and Mr. Probz summer anthem "Waves".. when I first heard "Every Piece" I knew it needed to feature side by side with Waves.. The english born producer, half of the Way Out West outfit, is one out the most talented producers and songwriter of the 21st century progressive scene. "Walk with Me" from Jetlag Prod. (Belgium).. New on the Anjunadeep label as the vibe wrote "this is how commercial house music should sound. Provocative, thoughtful but most importantly – good". "The Sin" from Bee Hunter.. A tactfully produced progressive/trancy production, light and right in the vibe I was going for.. "Golden Sky" nice indie track with a massive remix from the Sons of Maria.. Just yum! Vocalist is Lika Morgan, can't wait to hear more from her. Wanted to finish the loop on a semi-classical track, hence dag up "Lost Soul" one of my favourite chill out tune.. Bliss from Bliss! Imagine Studio 54 but… today! C&M Productions introduced me to that sound. My personal take on Nu Disco, the one I love, are tunes that insidiously make you want to dance by stealth. The chords progression is a classic and Xtian did a fair job discofying it with the French vocal sample. “Sound of Silence”: truth be told it belonged to the previous set but somehow I completely screwed up the version that was upload, which by no means was the final one. I had done that set whilst travelling and got the indexing very wrong. As I did not want to let this orphan go to waste, I added some beats and included it here. Acid beat and progressive take on an immense late 60’s classic. Pretty proud to have found it! Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but for some it will be bliss.. “Supernaturish”: if one tune should epitomize what Nu Disco is and summarize what I have attempted it is this new take on Cerrone (French king of the electronic disco sound) Supernatural classic. And just in case you did not get the disco feel, Xtian had to mash it up with “I love America”.. The boy needs to have fun. Wrapping the set up with an unreleased OtherSoul edit of Lana’s “Video Games” fitting closing track as the Spaniards’ production give the sultry Lana’s voice a definite disco kick.   Hope you enjoy the Nu Disco venture. Claude Nougaro, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Grace Jones doing Edith Piaf, a Rolling Stones sampled cover, a twisted take of EBTG’s and lo and behold a 2015 remix of Neil Young/Nicolette Larson’s Lotta Love.. How is that for eclectic? Every year at about the time of my Taurean birthday, I try to put together a playlist of odd tunes, jams that never get a chance to make it to a set due to the filtering process I use. Either they are not quite five stars, do not fit into any strict genres or are jams I feel I may like but depart from a true house format. But it is that time of the year again and whilst I was on an extended trip to China and before embarking on a progressive house new journey, I propose you the 2015 version of “En Mai, fais ce qu'il te plaît”. It is eclectic, starting with a French flavour with the late Claude Nougaro, an old French jazz/rock artist, from my hometown of Toulouse, following is a little medley of Grace Jones using the current “Frenchie Thing” tune as a recall, before jumping into no less than Phil Collins and Eric Clapton.. All this with a definite House flavour. On day he went to NY and and bluffed the local studio talent royalty by sitting down in the recording room, jammin’ with them and within 30 days release the perfect album. It is a pity that most of you may not understand French because the lyrics are both an ode and a wink to America, from someone who theoretically would have had his musical roots there but was so far removed from the Yankee culture.
