In rugby – Italian rugby player, Sara Tounesi has copped a three months suspension for biting in her Women’s Rugby World Cup match against Japan which Italy won 21-8. Japanese flanker Iroha Nagata attempted to tell the Referee during the game, but was waved away. Later, Nagata showed the referee her hand, who recounts that there were no teeth marks. In written evidence after the game, Nagata said she was bitten twice and that it got “harder over a five-second period”. Denying the claim, Tounesi insisted she was shouting "la balla" to signify that the ball was available to her team-mates. At the Rugby League World Cup – after overcoming a sluggish start, Mate Ma’a Tonga overpowered Wales 32-6 at St Helens yesterday. Tonga will now look to build momentum against the Cook Islands in round three before a likely quarter-final showdown against Toa Samoa. With the inspirational Jason Taumalolo back from suspension and injured pair Moses Suli and Isaiya Katoa also returning, Mate Ma’a Tonga Head Coach, Kristian Woolf is confident his team has their best footy ahead of them as the RLWC starts to heat up. In football – He’s back! Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to first-team training with Man U and is in contention for Thursday's Europa League game at Old Trafford against Sheriff Tiraspol. The 37-year-old refused to come on as a substitute in the 89th minute in their 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur last Wednesday and was dropped for Saturday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea as a result. The Portuguese super star said that his walk down the tunnel was in the "heat of the moment". In Formular One – Formula One paid tribute to the late Red Bull and Red Bull Racing owner Dietrich Mateschitz at the American Grand Prix in Austin Texas on Sunday. Drivers, teams and fans came together for a minute’s applause to celebrate the life of Mateschitz, who died the day before, aged 78. “He was a man that inspired so much, he is the reason that we are here”, Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner said. The Red Bull owner also owned the 7-star Laucala Island Resort in Fiji. In tennis – barely a month after she officially retired, saying that she would be “evolving away from tennis”, 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has hinted on Good Morning America that she may make a comeback! “I mean, you never know,” Williams said. “I think Tom Brady started a really cool trend.” Tom Brady? He’s getting a divorce right – is she still married? Geez girl, Tom Brady? You never can tell with these Americans. On Sunday in Auckland we tip the Aussie Wallaroos to vegemite England and Canada to cherry pie the USA. In football – Man U boss Eric10 has sent scouts to spy on Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong. The versatile Dutchman has scored five Bundesliga goals this season, not bad for a Fullback. Frimpong is known for dribbling down the wing and their current right-back, Diogo Dalot is hopeless. In boxing – Oleksandr Usyk has delivered a birthday message to Deontay Wilder saying that he will fight him after he gets rid of Tyson Fury in 2023. The Ukrainian owns the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO World Heavyweight titles, but is now out to add the Gypsy King's WBC belt to his trophy cabinet. At the Rugby League World Cup – Ireland’s Rugby League World Cup hopes are hanging by a thread after being put to the sword 32-14 by Lebanon yesterday as Mitchell Moses ran rings around the Irish all day. However, there were also a number of flashpoints that stood out during the game, including when Irish star, James Bentley screamed in pain, “Aaaargh he’s grabbed my balls.” Referee Adam Gee placed the incident on report and the Match Review Panel had a closer look at the smelly evidence later. Two Lebanese men made the tackle a threesome - but it was unclear which one grabbed Bentley’s pair. He’s not too pleased is he?” one of the BBC commentators uttered. “He’s complaining to the referee and the ref is going to have a little look, maybe Ashley Klein the video referee can help out.” “He took a little contact in an uncomfortable place, shall we put it that way,” commentator Sharon Shortle reported. Geez no wonder the Poms have gone through four Prime Ministers in like four months!!! A crowd of almost 45,000 fans watched England beat Samoa at St James' Park in the opening game and they are targeting 458,483 tickets sold for the 2013 RLWC, which remains the all-time record. The Women's EURO 2022 Championships sold 571,000 tickets. In football – going, going . . . Malo and welcome to Season 3 Episode 20 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on this bright and sunny Thursday morning 20 October 2022, coming to you from paradise on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! In rugby – one thing the Women’s Rugby World Cup is doing across the rugby playing world, especially in Fiji and New Zealand is, making grown men cry! It’s true and by the bucket loads too - tough beer-drinking, rugby-playing blokes who never ever watched Women’s rugby before have been brought to tears watching their Women’s national teams play. Now isn’t that something? Remember the joy when Rugby New Zealand signed a six-year NZ$120Million deal in 2021 giving French construction giant “Altrad” jersey-naming rights for all their All Blacks teams – all of them, including Fozzy’s team, Portia’s teams, the Maori All Blacks and the AB’s Under-20s. Now the NZRFU is nervously awaiting a Paris Criminal Court verdict on eccentric billionaire Mohammed Altrad’s briber and corruption charges. In rugby league – geez the PNG Kumuls should have won their opening game of the Rugby League World Cup vs Mate Ma’a Tonga yesterday. Now they play the Cook Islands and Wales. Meanwhile, BIG Mal has named six debutant Kangaroos to face Scotland in the RLWC: Nathan Cleary, Liam Martin, Isaah Yeo, Matt Burton, Campbell Graham and Lindsay Collins. In netball – Australia has kept the Constellation Cup alive, putting rivals New Zealand in an “absolute chokehold” in Melbourne last night to claim a 62-47 win. It means the Diamonds now only need to win game four on the Gold Coast on Sunday to reclaim the Constellation Cup. Meanwhile the dispute between the Diamonds’ players and officials over new sponsor, Hancock Prospecting continues courtside, after the players backed indigenous player Donnell Wallam who said she was uncomfortable wearing the branding. Good on ya – go girls go! In football – a group of former and current Iranian sports figures have sent a letter to FIFA urging it suspend the Iranian Football Federation and ban Iran from playing at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar saying, “Iran’s brutality and belligerence towards its own people has reached a tipping point.” Only in America – the NFL’s Carolina Panthers franchise has just sacked Head Coach, Matt Rhule with four years still to run on his contract. This means that the former college football head coach will be paid US$834,000 a month for the next four years as a result. In the NBA – twenty years ago, the NBA transformed the sports media landscape by moving most of its games from free-to-air television to pay-TV cable networks. The question now is whether the NBA will spark another seismic shift by embracing the emerging new world of streaming TV. NBA legend, Charles Barkley has agreed to a 10-year deal with TNT for US$199Million. Interestingly, TNT’s broadcast rights deal with the NBA expires in 2025. So if Turner loses their NBA deal, Barkley could potentially go look for another network or a digital platform like Amazon or Apple. In boxing – Deontay Wilder is after a fight with Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua in a big stadium. His Coach, Malik Scott says "I'm not that big on Deontay fighting Andy Ruiz or Frank Sanchez. We've got three years left in this game and we want Deontay in the highest level fights possible. Finally in the AFL – you know that game Aussie blokes like to play in really tight shorts? Well West Coast Eagles star from Fiji, Nic Naitanui and his partner Brittany Bown uploaded a post to her social media account showing off their first born child Ezekiel Duke. Oh so cute! In rugby – it’s simple, Team Fijiana has to beat France to qualify for the Women’s Rugby World Cup quarter finals. England play South Africa before the Fijiana versus France game on Sunday, so if it comes down to the points differential, Fijiana will know the score. England's tight win over France in the Women's Rugby World Cup was watched by a UK television audience of 800,000 on Sunday. Emily Scarratt starred for the Red Roses, scoring all of England's points in a scrappy 13-7 win. In rugby league – Mate Ma’a Tonga has just beaten the Papua New Guinea Kumuls 18-24 in their opening RLWC game this morning. On the sidelines, Tonga is doing its bit to spread the gospel around Saint Helens – their base in England for the RLWC. Yesterday they got around to visiting 27 local schools and like Captain Siosiua Taukeiaho said: “It is massive for us – not just for the kids. With us being so far away from home it was good to see some of the young English kids wearing Tongan jerseys with a smile on their dials.” In football – Karim Benzema is the best footballer on the planet and the Real Madrid striker has just won the coveted Ballon d’Or Award to confirm it, following his spectacular form for both club and country in recent times. Benzema scored 27 goals in just 32 La Liga games, while he also bagged an astonishing 15 goals in Champions League action. Meanwhile Qatar — whose population is a shade under 3 million people, has sold 2.9 million tickets for the FIFA World Cup. Can you imagine that fan invasion? The demand for accommodation in Qatar has seen landlords pushing tenants out to cash in on the surge. One resident was given a week to leave her apartment which she rents at US$2,500 per month, now going for US$1,700 per night for a minimum 14-night stay. In boxing – “I’m gonna go with Jake Paul, just because he seems like he’s getting into the rhythm of things. He doesn’t have too many fights. He loves boxing, is a hard worker, and has a lot of power. If he connects with Silva, he’s going down,” Oscar De La Hoya writes off Brazilian MMA legend Anderson Silva. Seibs told FOX Sports that he would “see what happens over the coming days” regarding his future and he clarified “no deal has been done with Manly as yet”. In netball – Australia only lost one of the four quarters in last night’s Constellation Cup Test Two to New Zealand, but they head home defeated after another fade out. In football – the Kylian Mbappe saga at Paris Saint-Germain has taken another bizarre twist with the Club accused of secretly backing an online smear campaign against its megastar. PSG has vehemently denied the accusations. On a more positive note - more than 1,300 fans from England and Wales are banned from travelling to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup due to past issues with soccer-related violence at home and overseas. The U.K.’s Home Office has warned those on the list of a possible six months prison term for defying the ban. In boxing – BOOM just one BIG right hand punch was all it took for Deontay Wilder to announce he’s back, after he totally annihilated Robert Helenius in the first round of their fight in New York yesterday. The BIG question for fight fans is – did he get it off with his partner Telli Swift before this fight . . . and who’s next . . in the ring I mean? In rugby – South Africa is 11th in the World Rugby Women’s Rankings, while Fiji is 21st, so as favourites they are targeting this game in the Women’s RLWC for a win. However, Fijiana scored some cracking tries against England and showed that, when they get their offloading game going, they can hurt any team. Go Girls Go. Without doubt, much of the fate of the PNG Kumuls at this RLWC rests on the shoulders of Melbourne Storm superstar Justin Olam, whose rugby league journey to the NRL has inspired millions back home. Opposition sides will need to be on their game to contain him. In a related story, Mate Ma’a Tonga’s inspirational Captain, Jason Taumalolo will miss this game, forced to sit out two RLWC pool games due to suspension, so Gold Coast Titans forward David Fifita steps up for his Tongan debut. In netball – FOX Sport is reporting that Australian Diamonds netball players have raised issues about playing in tomorrow’s second Test of the Constellation Cup against New Zealand in Tauranga, wearing uniforms featuring new sponsor, Hancock Prospecting.
