Malo and welcome to Season 3 Episode 73 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on this warm but wet Tuesday morning 13 December 2022, coming to you from paradise on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean ! In the FIFA World Cup in Qatar – it is estimated by the Association of English Pubs that more than 15 million pints of beer was drunk during the England-France World Cup game, before Harry Kane missed that penalty. Can you imagine the amount of tips, bonuses and overtime bar staff have made so far? Damn now the British media and public will turn their attention back to Rishi, inflation and the big freeze. In rugby union – if Samoa can win the Cape Town 7s, beating the All Blacks 7s twice, South Africa, Argentina and the rest with a totally homegrown crew, why can’t Fiji? Taking nothing away from our Samoan brothers as they are playing brilliant 7s rugby, while Fiji is simply not firing. In rugby league – a new era will kick off for the NRL in 2023 with the Dolphins making one of the most anticipated entries in the NRL's history. Legendary Head Coach Wayne Bennett will lead the new franchise for at least the next two seasons, ensuring the Club will be firing from the start. In boxing – Philippine boxing great Manny Pacquiao returned to the ring Sunday for the first time since retiring from the sport last year, beating another YouTube wannabe, South Korean DK Yoo in an exhibition near Seoul, South Korea to raise money for Ukraine and homeless Filipinos. And the IBF World Bantamweight Champion female fighter, Ebanie Bridges has just dropped her latest video on adult members-only site - “Only Fans”. Not bad for a skanky stripper! Malo and welcome to Season 3 Episode 72 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on this cloudy Monday morning 12 December 2022, coming to you from paradise on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean ! In the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals in Qatar – an estimated 20 Million TV viewers in Britain watched their FIFA World Cup quarterfinal loss to France – this is the highest viewership of any event on television in Britain this year. Meanwhile tens of thousands of English fans have abandoned their accommodation in Qatar and sold their tickets to the semifinals and finals of the FIFA World Cup to trudge back home in tears still wondering how the hell did their Captain, Harry Kane miss that penalty. In rugby union – Samoa has won the HSBC Cape Town 7s, beating the All Blacks 7s 7-12 for the title and earlier beating South Africa 7-10 in their semifinal and Argentina 10-22 in the QFs. Fiji beat Los Pumas 5-29 for a disappointing fifth place and USA beat South Africa 22-14 for third. The Australian men are still hung-over from their win in Dubai and Team Fijiana finished a disappointing 7th. In rugby league – NRL players take heed: A former Bulldog, Rabbitoh and Rooster - Sandy “The Sandman” Campbell, played 93 first grade games in the 80s and 90s and was a star. Now 56 years old, he is homeless, sleeps on a beach and is often spotted at a St Vincent de Paul shelter collecting a hot meal. In boxing – UFC282 yesterday ended in controversy, with Paddy Pimblett of England awarded a shock win by unanimous decision over Jared Gordon of the USA and the main event ending in a split decision between #3 Jan Blachowicz of Poland and #4 Magomed Ankalaev of Dagestan, Russia so the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship remains vacant. Me thinks UFC is tainted by fixed fights favouring fighters big on social media. And in the IBF World Bantamweight female title fight between those hot Aussie chics, Ebanie Bridges stopped Shannon O’Connell in the eighth round in Leeds, England yesterday and had this to say, “Not bad for a skanky stripper I must say, not bad for a skanky stripper.” “She came, she was hungry, she was fierce, she can hit, she can bang. But I was better, and that’s why I’m the champion.” For TeivovoSports.com I’m Culden Kamea - Mahalo, vina’a and thank you – please hit the subscribe button below if you would like to receive more Pasifika sports highlights on Breakfast Bites. Malo and welcome to Season 3 Episode 71 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on this cloudy but bright Sunday morning 11 December 2022, coming to you from paradise on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean ! In the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals in Qatar – Cristiano Ronaldo is out, after Portugal crashed one nil to Morocco in Qatar this morning. En-Nesyri scored late in the first half and Ronaldo came on early after the break, but could not help his country. In the last quarterfinal this morning, France beat England 1-2 after Harry Kane missed a penalty to force a draw. With only four games remaining, visitors to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup 2022 have been far less than the 1.2 million initially expected. A government report says Qatar has welcomed 765,859 visitors over the first two weeks, with more than half the people who came already gone. Fiji lost to USA 17-7 in the Cup comp of the Cape Town 7s Cup quarterfinals this morning. In the other quarterfinals, New Zealand thumped Uruguay 50-0, Samoa 22-10 Argentina and South Africa just beat Great Britain. Team Fijiana lost to the Black Ferns 26-21 and also lost to USA Women 10-7. In rugby league – Tongan star Felise Kaufusi reflecting on the RLWC: “I don't know if you can say we started a revolution, but there's a lot of sacrifices that some players have made, Jason Taumalolo in choosing Tonga over New Zealand and Andrew Fifita, it’s massive for the game”. “I just hope that the next crew of Pacific Islanders that come through know that it's okay if they want to play for Tonga or Samoa, Fiji, Cook Islands or Papua New Guinea; to represent their humble little nation. I think it just makes for a better competition,” he added. In boxing – we’re counting down to the IBF World Bantamweight female title fight between hot Aussie chics, Ebanie Bridges and Shannon O’Connell in England this morning. At the weigh-in yesterday, the Champion Bridges displayed a tattoo with “Only Fans” and her account name on her stomach. Wanna watch? Malo and welcome to Season 3 Episode 70 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on this overcast but bright Saturday morning 10 December 2022, coming to you from paradise on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean ! In the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals in Qatar – Brazil is out after Neymar scored in the first period of extra time, but Croatia equalized late and then won the penalty shootout 4-2 to leave Brazilian fans around the world heartbroken and in tears. In scoring, Neymar equaled Brazil legend Pele's 'official' goal scoring record of 77 for the Brazil national team from 124 games for Brazil, while Pele's goals came from only 92 games. Pele also won three FIFA World Cups with Brazil in 1958, 1962 and 1970. Meanwhile Lionel Messi guided Argentina past the Netherlands in their quarterfinal, scoring in their 2-2 draw and then again in the penalty shootout for a 4-3 win and a semifinal against Croatia. In the Cape Town 7s Day One - Fijiana beat Britain 10-19 and Brazil 10-31 and play New Zealand at midnight tonight. Fiji Men trounced France 33 nil and play South Africa at 10.19pm tonight. Samoa beat Uruguay 10-21 and play Japan at 8.29pm. While Great Britain beat Australia 19-21 and in another major upset - Spain 14-10 All Blacks 7s. Ouch that will hurt the All Blacks brand back in Kiwi land. In rugby league – Felise Kaufusi who recently returned from Rugby League World Cup duties with Mate Ma’a Tonga, is still a few weeks off joining his Dolphins teammates on the field for preseason training in early January 2023, but he’s liking what he is seeing from the players slogging it out in the Queensland sun. US President Joe Biden and VP Kamla Harris spoke by phone with Griner and the call included Griner’s wife. In rugby union – here’s the thing about the sackings of Wayne Pivac by Wales Rugby Union and Eddie Jones by England – they were both contracted until the Rugby World Cup in France next year, so first up they will be compensated for having their contracts terminated early. Second - if – both teams lose out in France, these guys can’t be blamed. So you gotta wonder about the thinking behind both sackings. The Cape Town 7s start tonight. In rugby league – no other sport has a chance of trying to attract any interest right now with the FIFA World Cup on in Qatar where we tip Brazil to bamboozle Croatia and the Netherlands to ninja Argentina tomorrow morning, and Morocco to mambo Portugal and France to fringo England on Saturday. Wayne Bennett has confirmed the Dolphins are in talks with Tessi Niu. In boxing – UFC Prez Dana White has caused a social media uproar by saying football is the least-talented sport ever with the eyes of the whole world feasting on the FIFA World Cup on in Qatar. The Fury vs Usyk fight is on in February or March 2023. And finally, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has faced heavy backlash leading into the Qatar World Cup - but we can all still agree he's a vast improvement on predecessor Sepp Blatter. Amongst his many indiscretions, the disgraced former chief of world football once suggested female players "wear tighter shorts" to put more eyes on the sport. Ha ha no comment. In the FIFA World Cup Last 16 knockout games in Qatar today: Just as we tipped it - Morocco served up one big juicy mango smoothie for Spain and sent them packing back to Madrid with a 3-0 win after their penalty shootout. And Portugal popped Switzerland’s bubble 6-1 this morning. So the FIFA World Cup 2022 Quarterfinalists are: Netherlands 3-1 USA, Argentina 2-1 Australia, France 3-1 Poland, England 3-0 Senegal, Croatia 3-1 Japan, Brazil 4-1 South Korea, Morocco 3-0 Spain and Portugal 6-1 Switzerland. So, is Scott Razor Robertson lost to New Zealand? In rugby league – the Eels are desperate; having offered playmaker Mitchell Moses a A$1Million per season extension, he is yet to accept, as he weighs up more money from other Clubs. Both Moses and his halves partner Dylan Brown are now free to negotiate with rivals for 2024 and beyond. And the Newcastle Knights have signed a pair of Super League young guns, Kai Pearce-Paul and Will Pryce for two years for the start of the 2024 season. Pearce-Paul, 21, has been one of Wigan’s best players since making his debut in 2020 and is hyped as England’s Sonny Bill Williams. In boxing – Mills Lane, one of the most well-known and respected referees in professional boxing, celebrated for his no-nonsense demeanor and pre-fight catchphrase “Let’s Get It On!”, passed away Tuesday morning in his hometown of Reno, Nevada. Mills was surrounded by his two sons and his wife Kay. He was 85. As for the most complete fighter he ever refereed? That distinction went to Sugar Ray Leonard. “Leonard is probably one of the best athletes ever in this sport,” Lane said in an LA Times interview. “God gave some men a lot of talent and only a little bit of character. Other men got a little bit of talent and a lot of character. Sugar Ray, he got it all.” For his efforts and contributions, Lane was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2013. Rest in Peace bro. In not so breaking news - Pivac is being replaced by fellow Kiwi and former Wales Head Coach, Warren Gatland who has agreed to a sensational comeback from the Chiefs in New Zealand Super Rugby. This, effectively saves Eddie Jones’ neck, as some reports suggest that the Rugby Football Union had a sneaky little plan to backstab Fast Eddie and install Gatland as a caretaker Coach. In rugby league – a new NRL salary cap is set to be finalised this week which will see a pre-Christmas rush of player signings, according to The Daily Telegraph. So Souths Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker and Damien Cook will all be able to extend their contracts. So too will Brian To’o at the Panthers. A new NRL salary cap will also likely send Eels forward Nathan Brown to Wests Tigers and trigger Sea Eagles veteran, Marty Taupau to also move on. In boxing – English football legend, Wayne Rooney says that Tyson Fury should be knighted: “He’s an absolute legend. His mentality is incredible. He’s won titles abroad and defended them abroad. He epitomises everything that boxing is. You little sausage,” Tyson Fury lets it rip at Oleksandr Usyk at ringside after his one-sided win over Derek Chisora in London yesterday. Usyk can’t speak English so he had nothing to say, plus his translator was too scared to translate what Fury was saying – what a commotion! Perfect PR for their fight. What justice do you want when we find him? What sentence do you want us to give him?” Huh? Sharia Law or what? I think Dominique dropped the charge!
